  • This paper studies forced vibrational behavior of porous nanocrystalline silicon nanoshells under radial dynamic loads using strain gradient theory (SGT). This type of material contains many pores inside it and also there are nano-size grains which define the material character. The formulation for nanocrystalline nanoshell is provided by first order shell theory and a numerical approach is used in order to solve nanoshell equations. SGT gives a scale factor related to stiffness hardening provided by nano-grains. For more accurate description of size effects due to nano-grains or nano-pore, their surface energy influences have been introduced. Surface energy of inclusion exhibit extraordinary influence on dynamic response of the nanoshell. Also, dynamic response of the nanoshell is affected by the scale of nano-grain and nano-pore.

  • The setting and hardening of concrete is accompanied with nonlinear temperature distribution caused by development of hydration heat of cement. In order to predict the exact temperature history in concrete structures it is required to examine thermal properties of concrete. In this study, the coefficient of air convection, which presents thermal transfer between surface of concrete and air, was experimentally investigated with variables such as velocity of wind, boiling and layer effects. Finally, the prediction model for equivalent coefficient of air convection was theoretically proposed. The coefficient of air convection in the proposed model increases with velocity of wind, and its dependance on wind velocity is varied with types of form. For determining the initial coefficient of air convection, boiling effects must be considered. The coefficient of air convection is affected by boundary layer with respect to the distance from the surface.

  • The shot peening treatment were conducted for improving the strength of rolling contact fatigue of machine element like a gear. This paper was undertaken to analyze the influence of shot peening treatment for inner race of ball bearing on the rolling contact fatigue. Shot peening treatment were applied to the full hardened and the carbonitrided bearing. And the rolling contact fatigue life test and X-ray diffraction test were carried out. The results of this study showed that the fatigue life of ball bearing in the clean and the contaminated oil could be improved by shot peening treatment. This effect was found to be more pronounced to the full hardened bearing. These facts might be due to the generation of compressive residual stress and the strain hardening of surface layer by shot peening treatment. The failure of the shot peened bearing were presumed to initiate at surface.

  • High strength steels such as transformation induced plastic steel, dual phase and solid solution Hardening have been developed and continuously improved due to the intensified needs in the automotive industry. But silicon and manganese in transformation induced plastic steels were known to exhibit harmful effects on galvannealing reaction by oxide film formed during heat treatment. Therefore, in this work, the applicability of Zn-Ni electrodeposition instead of hot dip galvannealed coating to transformation induced plastic steels was evaluated and optimum electroplating condition was investigated. Based on these investigations optimized electroplating conditions were proposed and Zn-Ni electrogalvanized steel sheet was produced by EGL (electrogalvanized line). Its perfomance properties for automotive steel was evaluated.

  • This study aimed to evaluate the feasibility of estimating the setting time and compressive strength in Ternary Blended Concrete(TBC) using Settimeter, Strength meter, and Hybrid meter. It was determined that the hardness values at the initial setting time and final setting time of Settimeter, Hybrid meter, and at the 5 MPa of Strength meter were not affected by the mixing ratio of TBC. However, future studies need to consider the errors caused by the instability of the measurement surface during condensation and the state of the measurement surface after hardening.

  • The article brings the study of nonlocal, surface and the couple stress together to apparent the frequency retaliation of FG nanobeams (Functionally graded). For the examination of frequency retaliation, the article considers the accurate spot of neutral axis. This article aims to enhance the coherence of proposed model to accurately encapsulate the significant effects of the nonlocal stress field, size effects together with material length scale parameters. These considered parameters are assimilated through what are referred to as modified couple stress as well as nonlocal elasticity theories, which encompasses the stiffness-hardening and softening influence on the nanobeams frequency characteristics. Power-law distribution is followed by the functional gradation of the material across the beam width in the considered structure of the article. Following the well-known Hamilton's principle, fundamental basic equations alongside their correlated boundary conditions are solved analytically. Validation of the study is also done with published result. Distinct parameters (such as surface energy, slenderness ratio, as nonlocal material length scale and power-law exponent) influence is depicted graphically following the boundary conditions on non-dimensional FG nanobeams frequency.

  • The effects of re-peening on the fatigue damaged material are studied in this paper. The effects of re-peening process on surface hardness, surface roughness, surface compressive residual stress, and fatigue life are investigated. The results can be summarized in brief as follows: The depth of hardening layer was increased by re-peening process. There is no large variation of the surface roughness by re-peening process. The compressive residual stress of shot-peened specimen decreases under the fatigue loading and then increases again by re-peening process. Re-peening process increases the fatigue lifo of shot-peened and fatigue damaged specimen. The increase of fatigue lift under high stress level is much higher than under low stress level.

  • In this study, effect of laser power on hardness and microstructure of SKD61 Hot Die steel of which surface was melted and hardened with Yb:YAG disk laser was investigated. Beam speed was fixed at 70 mm/sec and distance between them was 0.8 mm about Laser surface melting. The only thing that was changed laser power. Laser powers were 2.0, 2.4 and 2.8 kW. No defect was found under all conditions. As the laser power increased, the penetration depth were deepened and the bead width was also widened. There was no hardness deviation of fusion zone at same laser power and it was higher than that of heat affected zone. In addition, the more laser power increased, the more hardness in fusion zone decreased. Fusion zone was macroscopically dendrite structure. However, core matric in dendrite was lath martensite of 100 nm size. There were $M_{23}C_6$ of 500 nm and the VC and $Mo_2C$ of a nano meters on boundary of dendrite.

  • Surface fog coating methods to porous pavements with a polymer, that contains MMA as a main ingredient, are being widely used in Japan and called 'Top-Coat Processes'. They have lots of effects such as to prevention of the pavement void choking, improvement of the water permeability of the pavements and so on. The purpose of this research is to show the characterization of the polymer to optimize the functions of the polymer fog-coat methods. This study focused on the difference of 'wetting' by water among polymers used for the fog coatings, and calculation the surface free energy from the water contact angle on each material. At the end, the water permeability test were conducted using porous asphalt mixtures that were coated with several kinds of polymers. The permeability was also measured on the specimens that were forcibly choked by muddy water and the resistance to choking was compared. It is concluded that the reduction of the surface free energy between water and a polymer improves the life of the permeability functions of porous pavements. Improvement of water permeation capacity and void-blocking controlling effects can be quantitatively evaluated using the interfacial tension ($\gamma$sl) with water for the coating material (high-viscosity asphalt and hardening resin binder). Consequently, the smaller the $\gamma$sl of the coating material the higher the water permeation capacity and void-blocking controlling effects of the porous asphalt pavements.
