In this study, Rock deformation on the splitting surface was investigated by using the finite element code relating to the blasting in urban area. The maximum principal strain according to the blasting detonation pattern was analyzed by the modeled blast section, and deformation of the splitting surface formed by the numerical analysis and the real blasting were compared. As a result, it was found that the maximum principal strain was observed a difference according to the blasting detonation pattern on the splitting surface, and the splitting surface was showed a similar waveform both the numerical analysis and the real blasting.

The old technique of sandblasting which has been used for paint or scale removing, deburring and glass decorating has recently been developed into a powder blasting technique for brittle materials, capable of producing micro structures larger than $100{\mu}m$. In this paper, we studied on the predictive modeling of material removal and surface roughness in powder blasting of glass by design of experiments. The surface characteristics and surface shape of powder blasted glass surface were tested under different blasting parameter. Finally, we proposed a predictive model for powder blasting process, and compared with experimental results.
In this study, ground vibrations of a surface blasting for golf links and a tunnel blasting for highway construction were measured to investigate the effect of blasting conditions such as total charge and distance from blasting point. In surface blasting, site factor K and n were 74.1 and -1.37, respectively, which were analyzed by means of cube root scaled distance. The more were measuring distance, the higher were absolute value of K and n. Principal frequency was in range of 5~60 Hz in surface blasting, where that of 80 percent was in range of 10~30 Hz. On the other hand it was in range of 25~98 Hz in tunnel blasting, which showed higher than of surface blasting.
In order to reduce ground vibration during tunnel excavation, a free surface blasting method has been applied in which a partial free surface is formed on the excavation surface and controlled blasting is performed. In this study, the ground vibration reduction due to artificial joints was evaluated by forming artificial joints on center cut using diamond wire saw and comparing the ground vibration caused by center cut blasting. As a result of comparison, ground vibration was reduced by artificial joints center cut blasting more than normal center cut blasting, and the ground vibration reduction effect of horizontal artificial joints center cut blasting was evaluated more than that of vertical artificial joint center cut blasting.

The powder blasting process has become an important machining technique for the cost effective fabrication of micro devices. This process is similar to sand blasting, and effectively removes hard and brittle materials. A large number of investigations on the abrasive jet machining with such output parameters as material removal rate, penetration and surface roughness have been carried out and reported by various authors. To achieve higher surface roughness, to increase material removal rate and to identify the influence of blasting parameters on the output parameters, we use the taguchi method which is one of the design methods of experiments. We can select process parameters to optimize the blasting process of glass. Experimental results indicate that the taguchi method is useful as a robust design methodology for the powder blasting process.
The typical blasting method adopted in Pasir Coal Mine is a surface blasting technique with a single free face. It means that there is only one free face, which is usually the ground surface. This kind of blasting method is easy to use but inevitably causes enormous ground vibrations, which, in turn, can affect the stability of the slopes comprising the various boundaries of the open pit mine. In addition, the method also has the problem of lowering the blast efficiency compared to other methods such as bench blasting methods or ones with more than two free faces. In this respect, a project was launched to develop a new blasting method that is suitable for controling the ground vibration and enhancing the blast efficiency. As a part of the project, authors investigated the current blasting method as well as the overall pit developing process in the mine, and established some important guidelines that should be observed during the whole development process. This paper presents the details of the typical blasting pattern and the pit developing method in the mine, and suggests the guidelines determined from the results of the observations.

Powder blasting technique has been considered one of the most appropriate micro machining methods for hard and brittle materials, since the productivity is high and the heat layers caused by material removal are very thin. Recent development of special purposed parts, such as the parts for semiconductor processing, the parts for LCD, sensors for micro machine fabrication and so on, has been expanded. Thus, it is essential to develop powder blasting technologies for micromachining of hard and brittle materials such as glass, ceramics and so on. In this paper, the characteristics of powder blasted glass surface were tested under various blasting parameters. Finally, we proposed a predictive model for powder blasting process using the neural network and the response surface method. Detail analysis of the simulation results is carried out and the performance of two predictive models is compared.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of various metal surface treatments and adhesive systems on the flexural bond strength of composite resin to Au-Ag-Cu-Pd alloy. The specimens were divided into nine groups by the combinations of surface treatment methods and adhesive systems. The types of surface treatment in this study were alumina blasting only, alumina blasting-Sn plating, alumina blasting-heating and three kinds of adhesive system used in this study were Silicoater system(Heraeus Kulzer GmbH,Germany), Superbond C & B(Sun Medical Co.,Ltd.,Japan) and Cesead opaque primer(Kurary Co.,Ltd.,Japan). After surface treatments and adhesive systems were applied, each specimen was built up with Dentacolor composite resin (Heraeus Kulzer GmbH,Germany). Four-point flexural bond strength was measured by Instron universal testing machine (Model 4301,U.S.A.) and modes of failure were observed by SEM(JEOL,SSM-840A,Japan). The obtained results were as follows: 1. The group that was bonded with Superbond C & B after alumina blasting-heating shelved the highest bond strength with significant difference among the groups, except the group with Cesead opaque primer after alumina blasting-Sn plating(P<0.05). 2. In the groups bonded with Cesead opaque primer, there was significant difference only in the bond strength between the alumina blasting-Sn plating group and alumina blasting group, where the former showed a higher bond strength(P<0.05). 3. In the groups bonded with Silicoater system, there were no significant differences in bond strength regardless of the surface treatment method(P<0.05). 4. In SEM evaluation, the groups of high bond strength, especially bonded with Superbond C & B after alumina blasting-heating and Cesead opaque primer after alumina blasting-Sn plating, revealed mainly cohesive-adhesive failure, whereas the others showed the tendency of adhesive failure.
We conducted test blasting in 3 sites to identify the effect on safety of the earth retaining wall by near blasting vibration. As a test result, we confirm that underground structures(earth anchor et al.) are relatively safer than surface structures as the underground vibration is 10~52% of surface vibration at a same distance. We derived surface and underground vibration prediction equations by regression analysis of measured 3 sites' surface and underground vibration PPV. Also we calculated minimum separation distance by blasting pattern about underground and surface curing concrete. Unless any discontinuity which are unsafe on the earth retaining wall appear, blasting work using under 2.4kg per delay is not meaningful to the earth retaining wall's safety as the result of measuring near blasting vibration, confirming change the earth retaining wall's instrument, and observation of structural deformation.

The conventional blasting method generates serious blasting vibration and underbreak/overbreak in spite of its high efficiency for rock excavation. To overcome these disadvantages, this paper introduces an alternative excavation method that combines the conventional blasting process with the free surface on the perimeter of the tunnel face using waterjet cutting technology. This proposed excavation method has advantages of (1) reducing vibration and noise level; (2) minimizing underbreak and overbreak; and (3) maximizing excavation efficiency. To verify the effects of the proposed excavation method, field tests were performed with a smooth blasting method at the same excavation conditions. Test results show that the vibration is reduced by up to 55% and little underbreak/overbreak is generated compared with the smooth blasting method. In addition, the excavation efficiency of the proposed method is greater than that of the smooth blasting method. The proposed blasting method with a free surface using waterjet cutting can be applied to urban excavation construction as well as to underground structure construction.
