  • In this paper, we consider the following two issues for implementing the synchronous Ethernet systems. First, a synchronous Ethernet system employs a fixed size superframe which is divided into a synchronous period and an asynchronous one. We note that the starting point of a superframe is not deterministic when an ordinary data frame's transmission is overlapped the superframe boundary. This overlap may be a fatal drawback for strict jitter bounded applications. Circumventing the problem, we propose a frame fragmentation scheme to provide a zero jitter, and compare its delay performance with the hold scheme which also provides the zero jitter. We next concern that IEEE 802.3x pause frames cannot be promptly transmitted in a synchronous period, and thus asynchronous traffics may be dramatically get dropped at the input buffer of a switch. To handle the problem, we propose an efficient flow control by allowing the transmission of the pause frame in a synchronous period, and investigate the blocking probability of the asynchronous traffics by the simulation.

  • There are so many low power MAC protocols for wireless sensor network. IEEE802.15.4 among them has disadvantage of a large power consumption for synchronization. To save power consumption it use the superframe operation alternating sleep mode and awake mode. But latency is longer result from superframe operation. Typical asynchronous B-MAC can have shorter latency according to check interval. But transmitter consumes more power because of long preamble. And receiver is suffering from overhearing. In this paper, we propose the adaptive check interval scheme of B-MAC for enhancing the power consumption and delay latency performance. Its power consumption is evaluated by comparing the proposed scheme with a typical IEEE802.15.4.

  • A cluster topology was proposed with the assumption of zero noise to improve the performance of wireless body area networks (WBANs). However, in WBANs, the transmission power should be reduced as low as possible to avoid the effect of electromagnetic waves on the human body and to extend the lifetime of a battery. Therefore, in this work, we consider a bit error rate for a cluster-based WBAN and analyze the performance of the system while the transmission of sensors and cluster headers (CHs) is controlled. Moreover, a hierarchical topology is proposed for the cluster-based WBAN to further improve the throughput of the system; this proposed system is called as the hierarchical cluster WBAN. The hierarchical cluster WBAN is combined with a transmission control scheme, that is, complete control, spatial reuse superframe, to increase the throughput. The proposed system is analyzed and evaluated based on several factors of the system model, such as signal-to-noise ratio, number of clusters, and number of sensors. The calculation result indicates that the proposed hierarchical cluster WBAN outperforms the cluster-based WBAN in all analyzed scenarios.

  • In this paper, a MAS information management method is proposed for the WiMedia MAC protocol. WiMedia MAC configures a fully distributed network based on Ad-hoc method. WiMedia devices communicate during Superframe which is a communication unit in WiMedia MAC. Each superframe which consist of 256 MASs is divided into two periods, beacon period and data period. In data period, devices communicate with each other using the received channel access information during the beacon period. Due to only $12{\mu}s$ timing allowance between beacon period and data period, the process of the MAS information management cannot be completed in time if entire process handle by software. Therefore, we propose a novel MAS information management method using hardware module. With our proposed method, a WiMedia device is satisfied with the processing time that is required in WiMedia MAC protocol.

  • Due to the development of information and communication, there is a rising interest on WBAN(Wireless Body Area Network) that maintain and check the human being health. According to the application of different quality of service and a special mechanism for transferring medical data are required in WBAN environment. In this paper, we proposed the new formed superframe that has CSMA/CA based TDMA scheduling and CSMA/CA used IEEE 802.15.4 in order to process emergency data and on-demand data in WBAN environment. We estimated performance of the proposed MAC protocol by compared performance of other MAC protocols that are IEEE 802.15.4 MAC protocl and Z-MAC protocol has contention access period based TDMA scheduling.

  • This paper proposes an architecture of a sensor network for gathering data under a powerful beam cluster tree architecture. This architecture is used when there is a need to gather data from sensor node where there is no sink node connected to an existing network, or it is required to get a series of data specific to an event or time. The transmit distance of the beam signal is longer than that of the usual sensor node. The nodes of the network make a tree network when receiving a beam message transmitting from the powerful root node. All sensor nodes in a sink tree network synchronize to the superframe and know exactly the sequence value of the current superframe. When there is data to send to the sink node, the sensor node sends data at the corresponding allocated channel. Data sending schemes under the guaranteed time slot are tested and the delay and jitter performance is explained.

  • In this paper, a dynamic backoff adjustment method of IEEE 802.15.4 is proposed for time-critical sporadic data in a noisy factory environment. For this, a superframe of IEEE 802.15.4 is applied to a real-time mixed data (periodic data, sporadic data, and non real-time message) transmission in factory communication systems. To guarantee a channel access of real-time sporadic(non-periodic) data, a transmission method using the dynamic backoff is applied to wireless control networks. For the real-time property, different initial BE, CW parameters are used for the dynamic backoff adjustment method. The simulat-ion results show an enhancement of the real-time performance of sporadic emergency data. The proposed method provides the channel access of real-time sporadic data efficiently, and guarantee real-time transmission simultaneously within a limite-d timeframe.

  • In this paper, a wireless control network based on IEEE 802.15.4 MAC protocol is proposed. The superframe of IEEE 802.15.4 is applied to the proposed wireless control network. The transmission and bandwidth management method are proposed for efficient transmission in the superframe. By these methods, the proposed wireless control network protocol is able to transmit three types of data (periodic data, sporadic data, and non real-time message), and guarantee real-time transmission within deadline.

  • DS1 transmission systems use framing bit errors, bipolar violations and code-detected errors to estimate the bit error rate when determining errored and severely errored seconds. Using the coefficient of variation under the memoryless binary symmetric channel assumption, a basic framework to evaluate these estimation schemes is proposed to provide a practical guideline in determining errored and severely errored seconds which are fundamental in monitoring the real-ime error performance of DS1 transmission systems carrying live traffic. To evaluate the performance of the cyclic redundancy check code (CRC), a computer simulation model is used. Several drawbacks of the superframe format in association with real time error performance monitoring are discussed. A few recommendations are suggested in measuring errored and severely errored seconds, and determining service limit alarms through the use of the superframe format. Furthermore, we propose a new robust scheme for determining service limit alarms which take into consideration the limitations of some estimation schemes for the time interval of one second.
