Electrical Properties of High Tc Superconductors Using the Pyrolysis Method for Renewed Electric Power Energy

  • We have fabricated a superconducting YBCO system according to the pyrolysis method and low pressure apparatus. In our experiment, the X-ray diffraction pattern of the non doped YBaCuO layer indicated that the superconductor contained only 90K phase crystal. The critical temperature and critical current density for a thick layer at $650^{\circ}C$ were Tc=90 K and $Jc=6{\times}10^{4}A/cm^2$ at 90K. In low pressure apparatus, the 90 K phase YBaCuO was grown at a lower temperature compared with the normal system. Tc and Jc at $650^{\circ}C$ were Tc = 90 K and $Jc=6{\times}10^{4}A/cm^2$ at 90K.

  • The method for calculation of $Y_2$BaCuO$_{5}$ contents was set up. It was estimated that the optimum value of 211 contents in the textured YBCO superconductor as flux pinning center was about 20wt.%. Ag contents have no influence on the critical temperature, but have large influence on the critical current density of the textured YBCO. When Ag contents over 15wt.%, which was the solubility of condensed YBCO, the critical current densities tend to a stable value.e.

  • The resonant frequency modulation of $YBa_2Cu_3O_{7-x}$ meander lines has been investigated as functions of optical pulse energy and temperature by using a network analyzer. The frequency-domain measurements are performed by controlling both the resonant frequency and the frequency width. The meander lines, configured in a microstrip geometry, are illuminated by optical pulses from an actively mode-locked Nd:YAG laser. The variation of the resonant frequency shows a quadratic dependence on the reduced optical pulse energy $P/P_c$, where $P_c$ is defined as the critical optical pulse energy at which resonance signal has disappeared. As for the dependence on temperature, the results are in good agreement with the previously reported data.

  • 종자결정성장법은 단결정형 YBCO 초전도체를 제조하기에 매우 유용한 방법이다. 이 방법은 YBCO 성형체 위에 Sm123나 Nd123 종자를 올려놓고 용융 열처리하여 초전도 결정을 특정한 방위로 성장하게 하는 방법이다. 그러나 이 공정의 단점은 초전도체의 결정성장속도가 매우 느리기 때문에 전체공정시간이 길다는 것이다. 이를 개선하고자 본 연구에서는 성형체 위에 같은 결정방위를 갖는 여러 개의 종자들을 동시에 올려 놓고 열처리하여 단결정형 초전도체의 제조시간을 단축하고자 하였다. 이 공정을 다중종자결정성법이라 명명하였으며, 이 공정의 적용으로 공정시간을 상당히 단축할 수 있음을 증명하였다. 본 연구에서는 초전도체의 결정 성장과정, 종자의 갯수와 공정시간의 관계, 종자에서 생성, 성장된 결정들이 만드는 결정입계특성 동에 대해 논의하였다.

Seed melting during seeded-melt growth process of YBCO superconductors

  • Melting and re-solidification nature of $SmBa_2Cu_3O_{7-y}$ (Sm123) grains in Ba-Cu-O (Ba:Cu=3:5) liquid containing 0.7 at.% yttrium were investigated at the temperature lower than its melt point. When Sm123 grains/liquid powder compacts were heated to a temperature between two melting points of Ba-Cu-O liquid ($1000^{\circ}C$) and a Sm123 phase ($1060^{\circ}C$) and held at this temperature for appropriate time, Sm123 grains melted partly in the liquid that was formed by melting of the liquid-forming powder. During subsequent slow cooling, (Sm,Y)$Ba_2Cu_3O_{7-y}$ solidified at the outer parts of the unmelted Sm12 grains, which is distinguished from the core regions by lower $Sm_2BaCuO_5$ (211) density.

  • Effects of $Ag_2O$ doping on the electromagnetic properties in the BiSrCaCuO superconductors. The electromagnetic properties of $Ag_2O$ doped and undoped BiSrCaCuO superconductor were evaluated to investigate the contribution of the pinning centers to the magnetic effect. It was confirmed experimentally that a large amount of magnetic flux was trapped in the $Ag_2O$ doped sample than that in the undoped one, indicating that the pinning centers of magnetic flux are related closely to the occurrence of the magnetic effect. It is considered that the area where normal conduction takes place increases by adding $Ag_2O$ and the magnetic flux penetrating through the sample increases. The results suggested that Ag acts to increase pinning centers of magnetic flux, contributing to the occurrence of the electromagnetic properties.

  • Electromagnetic properties of $CeO_2$ doped and undoped YBaCuO superconductors were evaluated to investigate the effect of pinning center on the magnetization and magnetic shielding. The variation $\DeltaM$ with doping was maximum for 3% doping and decrease with further doping. The magnetic shielding was evaluated by measuring the induced voltage in secondary coil and the voltage initially set to 0.5V, decreased to 0.17V and 0.28V respectively for the undoped and 3% $CeO_2$ doped sample. The much less change in the induced voltage for the 3% doped sample is attributed to the increased flux shielding by shielding vortex current. The $CeO_2$ was converted to fine $BaCeO_3$ particles which were trapped in YBaCuO superconductor during the reaction sintering. The trapped fine particles, $BaCeO_3$ may be acted as a flux pinning center.

Crystal growth and pinning enhancement of directionally melt-textured$(Y_{0.5}Nd_{0.25}Sm_{0.25})Ba_2Cu_3O_y$ oxides in air

  • High $T_c(Y_{0.5}Nd_{0.25}Sm_{0.25})Ba_2Cu_3O_y[(YNS)-123]$ superconductors with/without $CeO_2$ additive were systematically investigated by the zone melt growth process in air. Cylindrical green rods of (YNS)-123 oxides were fabricated by cold isostatic pressing (CIP) method using rubber mould. A sample prepared by this method showed well-textured microstructure, and $(Y_{0.5}Nd_{0.25}Sm_{0.25})_2BaCuO_5[(YNS)211]$ nonsuperconducting inclusions were uniformly dispersed in large $(Y_{0.5}Nd_{0.25}Sm_{0.25})Ba_2Cu_3O_y$[(YNS)123] superconducting matrix. In this study, optimum melting temperature and growth rate were $1100^{\circ}C$ and 3 mm/hr, respectively. The directionally melt-textured (YNS)-123 sample with $CeO_2$ additive showed an onset critical temperature $(T_c)\;T_c{\geq}93K$ and sharp superconducting transition.

배전 시스템에서의 저항형 초전도 한류기 파라미터 산정 방법 (Assessment of Parameters for the Resistive type Superconducting Fault Current Limiter in Distribution System)

  • Since the discovery of the high-temperature superconductors, many researches have been performed for the practical applications of superconductivity technologies in various fields. As results, significant progress has been achieved. Especially, Superconducting Fault Current Limiter (SFCL) offers an attractive means to limit fault current in power systems. In order to verify the effectiveness of the SFCL, in this paper, the analysis of fault current and voltage stability assessment in a distribution system are studied using the EMTDC based simulation method in which a novel component for a resistive type of SFCL is presented. Through the simulation, the most suitable SFCL's application point is selected and the assessment method for the parameters of the SFCL is also recommended.

재폐로 동작시 1선 지락사고에 따른 고속도 초전도 한류기의 특성 분석 (Analysis of Characteristics on the High-speed SFCL According to Single Line-ground-fault in the Reclosing Operation)

  • This paper proposed an high-speed superconducting fault current limiter (H-SFCL). The proposed H-SFCL functioned the initial fault current could be covered by the SFCL and the continued fault current after the one-cycle from fault occurrence could be controlled current-limiting-element of the normal conduction. To investigate the operation characteristics of the H-SFCL, a simulation power system was constructed, and a single line-to-ground fault was occurred. As a result, the H-SFCL limited the fault current by more than about 70%, and it was confirmed that the electric power burden was reduced compared to the SFCL that consisted only of superconductors.
