Various substrates were compared for the investigation of the optical properties of ZnO thin films. ZnO thin films have been deposited on (100) p-type silicon substrates and (001) sapphire substrates by pulsed laser deposition technique using a Nd:YAG laser with the wavelength of 355 nm. Oxygen and nitrogen gases were used as ambient gases. Substrate temperatures were varied in the range of 200$^{\circ}C$ to 600$^{\circ}C$ at a fixed ambient gas pressure of 350 mTorr. ZnO films have been deposited on various substrates, such as Si and sapphire wafers. We have investigated substrate effect on the optical and structural properties of ZnO thin films using X-ray diffraction (XRD) and photoluminescence (PL).
$SrSnO_3:Tb^{3+}$ phosphor thin films were prepared on sapphire and quartz substrates in the growth temperature range of $100{\sim}400^{\circ}C$ by using the radio frequency magnetron sputtering deposition. The resulting $SrSnO_3:Tb^{3+}$ thin films were characterized by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, ultraviolet-visible-infrared spectrophotometer, and photoluminescence spectrometer. The results indicated that the morphology, optical transmittance, band gap energy, and luminescence intensity of the phosphor thin films significantly depended on the growth temperature. All the thin films, regardless of the type of substrate, showed an amorphous behavior. As for the thin films deposited on sapphire substrate, the maximum crystallite size was obtained at a growth temperature of $400^{\circ}C$ and the strongest emission was green at 544 nm arising from the $^5D_4{\rightarrow}^7F_5$ transition of Tb3+. The average optical transmittance for all the thin films grown on sapphire and quartz substrates was decreased as the growth temperature increased from 100 to $400^{\circ}C$. The results suggest that the optimum growth temperatures for depositing highly-luminescent $SrSnO_3:Tb^{3+}$ phosphor thin films on sapphire and quartz substrates are 400 and $300^{\circ}C$, respectively.
Hot embossing has been widely accepted as an alternative to photolithography in generating patterns on polymeric substrates. The optimization of embossing process should be accomplished based on polymer substrate materials. In this paper, the effect of polymer substrates on nano scale hot embossing process was studied. Silicon molds with nano size patterns were fabricated by e-beam direct writing. Molds were coated with self-assembled monolayer (SAM) of (1, 1, 2.2H -perfluorooctyl)-trichlorosilane to reduce the stiction between mold and substrates. For an embossing, pressure of 55, 75 bur, embossing time of 5 min and temperature of above transition temperature were peformed. Polymethylmethacrylates (PMMA) with different molecular weights of 450,000 and 950,000, MR-I 8010 polymer (Micro Resist Technology) and polyaliphatic imide copolymer were applied for hot embossing process development in nano size. These polymers were spun coated on the Si wafer with the thickness between 150 and 200 nm. The nano size patterns obtained after hot embossing were observed and compared based on the polymer properties by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The imprinting uniformity dependent on the Pattern density and size was investigated. Four polymers have been evaluated for the nanoimprint By optimizing the process parameters, the four polymers lead to uniform imprint and good pattern profiles. A reduction in the friction for smooth surfaces during demoulding is possible by polymer selection.
This paper presents direct ${\mu}c$-Si:H thin film growth on the glass substrates using RPCVD system (remote plasma chemical vapor deposition) in low temperature. Hydrogenated micro-crystalline silicon deposited by RPCVD system in low temperature is very useful material for photovoltaic devices, sensor applications, and TFTs (thin film transistors). Varying the deposition conditions such as substrate temperature, gas flow rate, reactive gas ratio $(SiH_4/H_2)$, total chamber pressure, and rf power, we deposited ${\mu}c$-Si:H thin films on the glass substrates (Corning glass 1737). And then we measured the structural and electrical properties of the films.
Effect of high-temperature annealing on morphology of fully coherent self-assembled InAs quantum dots' grown on Si (100) substrates at $450^{\circ}C$ by atmospheric pressure metalorganic chemical vapor deposition(APMOCVD) was investigated by atomic force microscopy(AFM). When the dots were annealed at 500 - 600$^{\circ}C$ for 15 sec - 60 min, there was no appreciable change in the dot density but the heights of the dots increased along with the reduction in the diameters. In segregation from the InAs quantum dots and/or from the 2-dimensional InAs wetting layer which was not transformed into quantum dots looked responsible for this change in the dot size. However the change rates remained almost same regardless of annealing time and temperature, which may indicate that the morphological change due to thermal annealing is done instantly when the dots are exposed to high temperature annealing.
Graphene has drawn enormous attention owing to its outstanding properties, such as high charge mobility, excellent transparence and mechanical property. Synthesis of Graphene by chemical vapor deposition (CVD) is an attractive way to produce large-scale Graphene on various substrates. However the fatal limitation of CVD process is high temperature requirement(around $1,000^{\circ}C$), at which many substrates such as Al substrate cannot endure. Therefore, we propose plasma enhanced CVD (PECVD) and decrease the temperature to $400^{\circ}C$. Fig. 1 shows the typical structure of RF-PECVD instrument. The quality of Graphene is affected by several variables. Such as plasma power, distance between substrate and electronic coil, flow rate of source gas and growth time. In this study, we investigate the influence of these factors on Graphene synthesis in vacuum condition. And the results were checked by Raman spectra and conductivity measurement.
The effects of Temperature on the removal of triglyceride were studied with soaps having various chain lengths of alkyl group. Cellophane, polyester film and alkali-treated polyester film were soiled with tripalmitin, tagged with 0" and detergency was evaluated by analysing the tripalmitine on the fabric before and after washing by means of liquid scintillation counting. The results were as following: 1) Triglyceride was completely removed from cellophane in distilled water without surfactant at any temperature, because of the hydrophillic nature of cellulose. The detergency of triglyceride from polyester film fully depended on the state of tripalmitin. The detergency of alkali treated polyester film was better than that of untreated polyester film at lower temperature due to increased hydrophillcity, but worse at higher temperature due to the diffusion of molten tripalmitin into the grooves, formed by alkali treatment. 2) The detergency from polyester film was increased with elevating temperature and after reaching some optimum detergencies, the detergencies were rather decreased with increasing temperature. The temperatures of optimum detergency were shifted to higher with increasing chain length of alkyl group. 3) When the soiled film was baked at $60^{\circ}C$ and $70^{\circ}C$ for 20 min, the detergency vs. temperature was much the same as the case of without-baking. These results indicate that the detergency of triglyceride was largely correlated with the suspending power of surfactants at low temperature and with state of soil and hydrophilicity of substrates with elevating temperature.
The evolution of surface roughness and morphology in epitaxial Si and $Si_{0.7}Ge{0.3}$ alloys grown by UHV opm-beam sputter deposition onto nominally-singular, [100]-, and [110]-mi-scut Si(001) was investigated by stomic force microscopy and trasmission electron microscopy. The evolution of surface roughness of epitaxial Si films grown at $300^{\circ}C$ is inconsistent with conventional scaling and hyperscaling laws for kineti roughening. Unstable growth leading to the formation of mounds separated by a well-defined length scale is observed on all substrates. Contraty to previous high-temperature growth results, the presence of steps during deposition at $300^{\circ}C$ increases the tendency toward unstable growth resulting in a much earlier development of mound structures and larger surface roughnesses on vicival substrates. Strain-induced surface roughening was found to dominate in $Si_{0.7}Ge{0.3}$ alloys grown on singular Si(001) substrates at $T_S\ge450^{\circ}C$ where the coherent islands are prererentially bounded along <100> directions and eshibt {105} facetting. Increasing the film thickness above critical values for strain relaxation leads to island coalescence and surface smoothening. At very low growth temperatures ($T_s\le 250^{\circ}C$), film surfaces roughen kinetically, due to limited adatom diffusiviry, but at far lower rates than in the higher-temperature strain-induced regime. There is an intermediate growth temperature range, however, over which alloy film surfaces remain extremely smooth even at thicknesses near critical values for strain relaxation.
Due to their novel properties, GaN based semiconductors and their nanostructures are promising components in a wide range of nanoscale device applications. In this work, the gallium nitride is deposited on c-axis oriented sapphire and porous SWCNT substrates by molecular beam epitaxy using a novel single source precursor of $Me_2Ga(N_3)NH_2C(CH_3)_3$ with ammonia as an additional source of nitrogen. The advantage of using a single molecular precursor is possible deposition at low substrate temperature with good crystal quality. The deposition is carried out in a substrate temperature range of 600-750$^{\circ}C$. The microstructural, structural, and optical properties of the samples were analyzed by scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, Raman spectroscopy, and photoluminescence. The results show that substrate oriented columnar-like morphology is obtained on the sapphire substrate while sword-like GaN nanorods are obtained on porous SWCNT substrates with rough facets. The crystallinity and surface morphology of the deposited GaN were influenced significantly by deposition temperature and the nature of the substrate used. The growth mechanism of GaN on sapphire as well as porous SWCNT substrates is discussed briefly.
We have investigated the generation of pretilt angle for a nematic liquid crystal (NLC) alignment with rubbing alignment method on polyimide surfaces using thin plastic substrates. It was found that monodomain alignment of NLC is obtained with rubbing alignment method on polyimide surfaces using thin plastic substrates. The NLC pretilt angles generated are about 3$^{\circ}$ by the rubbing alignment method on thin plastic substrates, However, the pretilt angle are at about 1.7$^{\circ}$ lower on the glass substrate than on thin plastic substrate. We obtain that AFM (atomic force microscope) image of rubbed PI surface with polymer film has formed the micro-groove structure at the low curring temperature (120$^{\circ}C$). However, no grooves are obtained on the glass substrate at the same temperature. It is considered that this alignment may be attributed to roughness of micro-groove substrate. The tilt angle increases with increasing baking temperature for making polyimide layer using glass substrate. It was concluded that the pretilt angle in the polyimide surface is attributable to the increasing of imidization rato.
