  • Virtually every state in US has adopted laws and regulations that mandate the generic substitution of brand-named prescription drugs in order to reduce sky-rocketing drug costs. In the late 1970s, many state governments began to recognize the need of generic substitution and requested Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to consult with this issue. FDA did consult which drugs were interchangeable each other based upon the available scientific and experimental evidences given to the agency along with New Drug Application (NDA) and Abbreviated New Drug Application (ANDA).   • After reported that Styrene dimer and Styrene trimer was Endocrine Disrupter, if it was a fact or not, the sales of PSP noodle cup was rapidly decreased and social responsibilities of the substitution materials development was raised. Therefore we had studied many materials like paper, pulp mold, PP injection molding, PP lamination, etc as substitution materials and selected paper cup which was safe in many sides and easy to recycle. Mainly we had checked the shape, safety, stability and recycling possibility of paper cup and secured many data which could prove them.

Polymerization of Anisole Derivatives Containing Allyl or Chloromethyl Group Through Aromatic Electrophilic Substitution Reaction

  • 4-Allylanisole was polymerized with AlCl3 as a catalyst. The polymerization was carried out in nitroethane at various temperatures with changing the ratio of the initiator to the monomer concentration. The weight averge molecular weights measured by gel permeation chromatography in chloroform with polystyrene standards were between 1,500 and 4,700. 1H NMR spectroscopy showed that the polymerization proceeded through a stepwise aromatic electrophilic substitution reaction along with a minor chain-reaction, resulting in a branched polymer. 4-Chloromethylanisole was also polymerized with AlCl3 in nitroethane through an aromatic electrophilic substitution reaction to give a high molecular weight polymer (Mw=88,000).

  • The effects of Nb and Co ion substitution on the dielectric and magnetic properties of the multiferroic $BiFeO_3$ thin films have been investigated. Heteroepitaxial $BiFeO_3$ thin films were deposited by Pulsed Laser Deposition method. Nb substitution decreased the leakage current by 6 orders of magnitude and Co substituted $BiFeO_3$ thin films showed an enhanced magnetization, 2 times larger than that of un-substituted $BiFeO_3$. Through the co-substitution of Co and Nb, $BiFeO_3$ thin films with a low leakage current and an enhanced magnetization could be obtained.

  • In the hard oxidizing fire iron red glaze which colorated red exposed magnesioferrite and whitlockite-type crystals. And whitlockite-type crystals has formed before magnesioferrite forming in the step of sintering. This study tries to identify the coloration mechanism of hard oxidizing fire iron red glaze by the experiment of substitution of whitlockite-like crystals and to confirm such substitution be able to farm magnesioferrite. As the results of experiment, magnesioferrite was appeared during substitution of two kinds of whitlockite-type. It can be considered that the magnesioferrite colors the iron glaze to red with covering the glaze surface.

  • Effect of cationic starches and anionic colloidal silica on retention and drainage characteristics of Compozil system was investigated. Depending upon the degree of substitution and molecular weight of cationic starches and morphological characteristics of anionic colloidal silica, retention and drainage properties of Compozil system were significantly influenced. When cationic starch addition level increased above a certain limit retention and stock freeness were decreased. To elucidate this an electrostatic coagulation mechanism occurring between unadsorbed starch molecules and anionic colloidal silica was proposed. Unstructured colloidal silica showed greater improvement in retention than structured colloidal silica. Cationic corn starches with different degree of substitution and molecular weights were prepared and their effect as a constituent of Compozil system was also evaluated. By controlling the molecular weight and degree of substitution of cationic corn starch it was possible to achieve significant improvement in fines retention. Cationic corn starch with higher degree of substitution maintained its retention efficiency even when the stock conductivity was increased. Turbidity measurement technique was found to be a simple and useful method to measure the retention characteristics.

  • Slag product has the possibility as alternative aggregate and sand under the circumstance of natural resource shortage. Copper slag is the by-product produced in process of copper industry. Recycling the slag in construction industry could give positive effects on the environmental preservation. This study presents that the fundamental properties of high strength concrete which used copper slag as alternative sand. Testing factors are concrete's slump, bleeding, air contents and compressive strength. The results of this study are as follows. (1) Mixing of W/C 30%, substitution rate 25% shows the best slump. As substitution rates are going up, concrete slump is uprising and air contents are downsizing. (2) The bleeding of concrete becomes more serious as substitution rates are going up. (3) The best compressive strength of copper slag concrete is achieved in mixing of W/C 30%, substitution rate 25%.

A Substitution Model of the Evolutionary Generations of Technological Products (기술적 진화재의 대체모형)

  • In this study, a substitution model of the evolutionary generations of technological products is presented. The purpose of the model is to examine the demand side mechanisms which generate successive product life cycles along the path of technological improvements. In the model, the nature of substitution processes is summarized dto the demand function which is derived from the consumer's udtility maximization problem. To describe the nature of technological substitution processes, the concept of the vertical differentiation and the consumption externalities are considered in the utility function. The former is used to characterize the result of technological improvement and the latter is used in explaining the inertia of demand. To show the validity of the model, an empirical study is carried out using the data of the world DRAM market.

  • Possibilities of substitution was investigated in the Langadite({{{{ {La }_{3 } {Ga }_{ 5}{SiO }_{14 }}}}}) system.{{{{{TiO}_{2 }}}}} was substitutes for{{{{{SiO}_{2 }}}}} followed by the substitution of{{{{{Nd}_{2 }{O}_{3}}}}}fo{{{{{La}_{2 }{O}_{3}}}}}. An effort to replace GeO2, which is reported to have been substitution for{{{{{SiO}_{2 }}}}} in the Langasit e system, for{{{{{TiO}_{2 }}}}} i n{{{{{ Nd}_{ 3} {Ga }_{5 } {TiO }_{14 } }}}} was also undertaken. In another experiment,{{{{{ Y}_{ 2}{ O}_{3 } }}}} was substituted for{{{{{ La}_{2 } {O }_{ 3} }}}}. All of substitution possibilities were investigated through solid state reactions and analyzed with XRD. Further analysis was carried out with an SEM. Lastly, the dielectric constants of the sintered body were measured.

Effects of propane substitution for safety improvement of hydrogen-air flame (수소-공기 화염의 안전성 향상을 위한 프로판 첨가 효과)

  • In order to evaluate the potential of partial hydrocarbon substitution to improve the safety of hydrogen use in general and the performance of internal combustion engines in particular, the outward propagation and development of surface cellular instability of spark-ignited spherical premixed flames of mixtures of hydrogen, hydrocarbon, and air were experimentally studied at NTP (normal temperature and pressure) condition in a constant-pressure combustion chamber. With propane being the substituent, the laminar burning velocities, the Markstein lengths, and the propensity of cell formation were experimentally determined, while the laminar burning velocities and the associated flame thicknesses were computed using a recent kinetic mechanism. Results show substantial reduction of laminar burning velocities with propane substitution, and support the potential of propane as a suppressant of both diffusional-thermal and hydrodynamic cellular instabilities in hydrogen-air flames.
