  • Due to rapid convergence trends in the digital pay TV market, differentiation among the competing medias decreases and substitutability is increasing. The current study aims to explain the effect of service substitutability among competing media on the size of domestic digital pay TV subscribers. For the analysis, the Lotka-Volterra model, an ecological competitive diffusion model, was used to obtain the basic model for a simulation study. A simulation was performed by adjusting independent variables of substitutability to estimate the size of subscriber for particular media. The relationship between the digital cable TV and the IPTV is identified as a predator-prey relationship and the digital cable TV is found to be superior to the IPTV. The simulation results showed that the increase of convergence and substitutability result in the decrease of the entire media market. Especially, the IPTV is estimated to face the greatest loss in this context.

  • This study aims to figure out perceived substitutability between video clips distributed on Naver TV cast and regular TV program. An online survey was conducted for a week on October 2017, and we collected several responses, such as viewing time, viewing motive, the extent of viewing for video clip categories, and perceived substitutability between video clips and regular TV program. The dependent variable is Naver TV cast users' perceived substitutability between video clips and regular TV program, and the independent variables are viewing time, viewing motive and viewing degree by video clip categories. With these variables, hierarchical regression was conducted. The result shows that viewing time, use motives, including personal relations, booming issue and selective use, and the extent of web-based video content viewing positively affect on Naver TV cast users' perceived substitutability.

  • The paper is basically designed to reveal substitutability or complementary nature of export and import among Korea, China, and Japan by employing unit root test, cointegration technique, and vector error correction model(VECM). Empirical evidences are shown that the trading among these countries has been dominated by a complementary nature in the short run which enables it to promote trading in those countries. In the long run, however, the substitutability nature effects strongly to the trading among Korea, China, and Japan. To this end, it could be tentatively concluded that market-oriented trading policies are more effective to stimulate the export and import in those countries in the short run, while a trading policy has to be selectively implemented by the substitutability nature in the long run basis. For instance, a stability policy for exchange rates and various commercial policies could be set for a short term target. Whereas, the substitutability nature should be counted in building up a new industrial structure or in implementing FTA agreement among Korea, China, and Japan.

  • The purpose of this paper is to examine whether there are relationships of substitutability or complementarity between the call demand of fixed telecommunication and mobile telecommunication services. In order to clarify the relationships, we suggest a model of call demand of fixed telecommunication service which incorporates the variables representing the diffusion of mobile telecommunications subscription and estimate it with relevant time series data. Finally it is shown that there is complementary relationship between the call demand of fixed telecommunication and mobile paging services, and it is also found that there is substitutable relationship between the long distance call demand of fixed telecommunication and mobile phone services.

  • This study identifies the complementarity or substitutability among apple production technology bundles. To identify the production technology bundle relationships, this paper focuses on the 8 most commonly used technology groups, including a high density plant, normal density plant, M9, M26, more than 70% adoption ratio of a medium-maturing variety, the adoption of a new variety, artificial pollination, and low-temperature storage. The results show that M9 has a complementary relationship with a high density plant, yet a substitute relationship with a normal density plant. Meanwhile, M26 has a complementary relationship with both a high and normal density plant. No substitute relationship is found between M9 and M26, yet a complementary relationship is identified between the adoption of artificial pollination and low-temperature storage and M9 or M26.

  • Recent development of communication technology and evolution of telecommunications services, various needs of users are giving Telecom operators difficulties in discovering new services and its promotion strategies. In addition, at the launching of new services, if carriers does not consider complementary and substitution relationships with competing services or self-encroachment problem with the existing service profitability is reduced or lost in the current market. In this study, by analyzing usage pattern of telecommunications services respect to changes in supply and demand environment, the complementarity/substitutability analysis and systematic analytical framework is proposed. This study proposes approaches to establish mobile operators' business strategies and to identify new services demand.

  • Two experiments were conducted to investigate into the effects of replacing maize with a mixture of cassava root and leaf meal (CRLM) on the performance of broiler chickens. In experiment 1, CRLM replaced 50 or 100 percent of maize in the control diet. In experiment 2, the 100 percent CRLM based-diet was fortified at a further 3 percent level with coconut oil. A total of 180, one-day old Shaver Starbro chicks, raised up to 49 days of age, were used. There were no significant (p<0.05) differences in final body weights, feed intake and feed efficiency between the control group and the group fed the diet in which 50 percent of the maize was replaced with CRLM. At the 100 percent level of replacement of maize with CRLM, however, final body weights, feed efficiency and carcass yields, were significantly (p<0.05) reduced. Dressing percentage and feed intake were not affected (p>0.05) by level of substitution of maize with CRLM. In experiment 2, when the diet in which all of the maize was replaced with CRLM was fortified with coconut oil at an additional 3 percent level, broiler performance improved and equaled (p=0.05) that obtained on the control maize diet. It was concluded the CRLM can replace 50 percent of maize in broiler diet without adversely affecting performance. However, for the complete replacement of maize with CRLM, it is necessary to further supplement such a diet with a high energy density ingredient if broiler performance is to be maintained.

  • At present, there are several problems related with sand mat which is used as a way to accelerate consolidation settlement, act like an underground drainage layer and increase trafficability simultaneously. First of all, the unbalance oft he demand and supply of sand is the one of the biggest problems, which makes not only price advance of sand but also delays a term of total construction work. Secondly, the damage of ecosystem and scenery is triggered by thoughtless sand dredging or mining. So, the need that the sand for sand mat should be replaced with a new environmental friendly material has been increased. Fiber mat may be one of the proper materials that suits the need. Therefore, we intended to compare the drainage properties of sand mat with those of fiber mat by experimental model tests. On the basis of the test results, fiber mat took shorter period of consolidation than sand mat and it's amount of settlement showed a little bit bigger than the other. In conclusion, the substitutability of fiber mat for sand mat could be placed highly in view of drainage efficiency. Furthermore, when Fiber mat is used, it has an advantage that spoil soil of the construction site or nearby site can be used for the purpose of increasing trafficability in addition to a role of drainage layer.

  • In order to recommend future national policy directions on energy supply and consumption and to suggest energy technological priorities to be developed, comprehensive energy models have been developed through this study in a sense of strategic and systematic approach. The “energy input-output model” has been formulated to analyze the mutual impacts between energy consumption patterns and industrial structures and to calculate energy intensities of industrial sectors. The long-term energy demands to the year 2000 were forecasted by using multi-regressional method and the optimal energy flow balances for five-year interval have been studied by using the “energy linear programming model” being took full account of interfuel substitutability and technology.

  • This study empirically analyzes the recent conversion trend of Jeonsei to monthly rental contracts in the APT rental market and its major characteristics for three Gangnam districts using the real transaction Jeonsei and monthly rent prices data over the period of 2010.12 to 2015.4. The results show that in terms of deposits and substitutability the conventional apartment is more efficient than those of the reconstruction apartment. Moreover, monthly rental contracts are closely related with the movement of short-term interest rates. Given the same type of apartment, the result drawn from the substitutability between Jeonsei and monthly rental contracts reveals that the monthly leasing contract with the lower rate of deposit tends to have the higher conversion rate of Jeonsei to monthly rent. Thus, an urgent measure should be taken that the burdens of tenants with monthly rent contracts could be alleviated according to the rate of deposits.
