  • The present study describes a numerical analysis for simulation of the sloshing of flows with free-surface which contained in a rectangular tank moving in harmonic or pitching motion. The VOF function, representing the volume fraction of a cell occupied by the fluid, is calculated for each cells, which gives the location of the free-surface filling any some fraction of cells with fluid. The time-dependent changes of free-surface height are used for visualization subject to several conditions such as fluid height, horizontal acceleration, sinusoidal motion, and viscosity. The free-surface heights were used for comparing wall-force, which is caused by sloshing of flows. Damping effects by baffles were extensively investigated for various conditions in terms of baffle shape and position.

  • Shi (2000) claims that topics must be related to a syntactic position in the comment, thus denying the existence of dangling topics in Chinese. Under Shi's analysis, the dangling topic sentences in Chinese are not topic-comment but subject-predicate sentences. However, Shi's arguments are not without problems. In this paper we argue that topics in Chinese can be licensed not only by a syntactic gap but also by a semantic gap/variable without syntactic realization. Under our analysis, all the dangling topics discussed in Shi (2000) are, in fact, not subjects but topics licensed by a semantic gap/variable that can turn the relevant comment into an open predicate, thus licensing dangling topics and deriving well-formed topic-comment constructions. Our analysis fares better than Shi's in not only unifying the licensing mechanism of a topic to an open predicate without considering how the open predicate is derived, but also unifying the treatment of normal and dangling topics in Chinese,

  • This paper presents the development of videobased 3-dimensional tracking system. Measurement of human motion is important in the application of ertonomics. The system uses advanced direct video measurement technology. Passive retro-reflecting markers are attached to a subject and movements of markers are observed by two CCD cameras. Infrared light emitted near the CCD cameras is reflected by the markers and is detected by the cameras. The images are captured by Samsung MVB302 board and the centers of markers are calculated by DSP program. The positions of markers are transferred from MVB02 board to the computer through AT bus. The computer then tracks the position of each marker and saves the data. This system has dynamic accuracy with 0.7% average error and 4.2% maximum error, and the sampling rate to 6 .approx. 10 Hz, and this system can analyse the trajectory and speed of the marker. The results of this study can be used for operator's motion analysis, task analysis, and hand movement characteristic analysis.

  • This paper is concerned with the artificial control of prosthetic devices using the electromyographic(EMG) activities of biceps and triceps in human subject during isometric contraction adjustments at the elbow. And it was analysised about recognition of EMG signals and dynamic characteristics at arm movements of human. For this study the error signal of autoregressive(AR) model were used to discriminate arm movement patterns of human. Interaction of dynamic characteristics (Position, Velocity, Acceleration) and EMG of biceps and triceps at arm movements of human was measured.

  • The discrimination of flaw shape and sizing is very important subject in the material evaluation for semiconductor and new materials. The aim of this paper is to investigate the spectrum analysis of artificial defect signal captured from steel ball embedded in the resin. The results show that it can be evaluated quantitatively the size of artificial defect, from the amplitude variation of same frequency if the probe with same diameter and focal length is used. Comparing with the amplitude variation of the high frequency component and low frequency component obtained from the distance of defect center position, it can be estimated steel ball and flat bottm defect.

  • In a word, Behnischs architecture can be said to be the architecture of humanism based on an interpretation of the human being. The architecture of Behnisch in which it is not space but people that becomes the subject in architecture is newness or novelty, which is proceeding to position itself as one architectural style representing the times. He refrain from the environment that is defensive and oppressive, and destructive and disruptive in composing his architecture and instead is directed towards the continuos, creative and open environment. With such an architectural language, he is pursuing a minimum of the best rather than quantity based on trust and respecting for man and nature as his unchanged theme. That is, he is seeking for the purpose of architecture that does not disregard individuality such as consumers wants and needs. As can be seen from it, his architectural work has aroused freshness and stimulus to the architectural environment that can not be boring, allowed us to look back on the architectural world and triggered our interest. His architecture has the human energy that moves us.

  • Adolf Loos studied at the Dresden Institute of Technology. He lived in America from 1893 to 1896. On his return to Vienna, hi worked for a year with the architect, Carl Mayreder. From 1897, he wrote extensively on design and architectural matters. In 1908, his famous article "Ornament and Crime"(Ornament und Verbrechen) was published, in which he linked the use of excessive decoration to a debasement of society. For Adolf Loos, it was a question not of renunciation of every ornament, but of the liberation from superfluous ornament. Where ornament was pastes on only, without connection with the subject or the building, and where ornament was not honest with the hand put on, the ornament is supposed to be removed. Onto the place of the ornament the joy of the material and the shaping should step. That the opinion of Adolf Loss is not correctly understood Is due on the one hand to the concentration on the 'ornament and crime' too very much. On the other hand his extreme Position is supposed to be understood more as thinking-impulse, more as provocation.ovocation.

  • This paper deals with a robust controller design problem for a small one-link robot arm system subject to input time delay and load variations. The uncertain parameters of the system are considered as a disturbance input. A disturbance observer(DOB) has been designed to alleviate disturbance effects and to compensate performance degradation owing to the time-delay. This paper employs a new DOB structure for non-minimum phase systems together with the Smith predictor. We propose a new controller for reducing the both effects of disturbance and time-delay. In order to test the performance of proposed controller, four different other control laws are compared with the proposed one by computer simulations. The simulation results show the effectiveness of the proposed control method.

  • This study was carried out to understand the characteristics of stairs in Palladio's villa. The subject of study are selected the twenty two villas with drawing in his book ‘The four books of Architecture’. Their cases are represented the characteristics of stair in architectural composition. Accordingly, it was analyzed and classified the architectural characteristics into space, form and plan at a villa. In conclusion, in aspect of spacial plan, staircases of Palladio's villa was presented more open and light in comparison with darked space of the medieval age. And it was intended to the connection or division between spaces of different character In an aspect of formal plan, dynamic form of stairs was divided into the two types. First, it was represented the effect of articulation in form. Second, stairs were represented the diagonal with the shape of itself. In an aspect of plan, his idea is coexisted with traditional thought and rational idea through the arrangement of symmetry md asymmetry. But at any rate, his concern was sought for the reasonable position. Also, he had represented the various characteristics in stairs such as his works in Renaissance period.

  • The complexity of the papermaking system accelerates interactions between a large number of variables involved. The process operation, therefore, is subject to frequent perturbations by disturbance. Dynamic modelling is a useful tool for characterizing the transient behavior and selecting the best control strategies to reject disturbances. In this study we developed a dynamic simulation model of a fine paper production process, which consists of stock preparation, wire sections, white water circulations, and broke system. It focused on dynamic simulation in its role for developing control strategies and studying control loop dynamics related to filler loading for ash control. The results emphasized the importance of filler-loading position and length of control loop for rapid ash control and process stabilization.
