Korean Oriental Medicine has experienced the fluctuation of its status since modernization started. At the beginning of the modernization, Korean Oriental Medicine faced the crisis of disappearance and, nowadays, its status has risen to the very important position in the medical system of Korea. Korean Oriental Medical doctors have obtained the position of medical profession and enjoyed the exclusive privileges. The study on the status of Korean Oriental Medicine is an interesting subject field in the sense that the empirical research on the social factors concerning the status fluctuation of medical profession in non-western world can be done. Few studies on the social status of Korean Oriental Medicine have been found so far in spite of its ample implication of the subject. This paper conducted the questionnaire survey in order to investigate the views of Korean Oriental Medical doctors about the status of Korean Oriental medicine, factors for the improvement of its status, and the cultivating methods of Korean Oriental Medicine. Depending on the demographic features of Korean Oriental Medical doctors, first, the attitude toward the status of Korean Oriental Medicine was analyzed. The criteria to be investigated were the present and future status of Korean Oriental Medicine. Second, the items for the status improvement of Korean Oriental Medicine was analyzed under the criteria of specialization and scientific movement of Korean Oriental Medicine. Third, the stance of Korean Oriental Medical doctors on the cultivating methods of Korean Oriental Medicine was analyzed under the criteria of the level of awareness of and attitude toward Korean Oriental Medicine.

Background: This study was conducted to investigate the effect of leg lift difference on the serratus anterior muscle and the upper trapezius muscle when a subject with winged scapula performs a scapula protraction exercise in a four-leg crawling posture. Method: Twenty normal adults and 20 subjects with winged scapula participated in the experiment. Surface EMG recordings were collected from serratus anterior muscle and back trapezius muscle during scapula protraction exercises. Scapular winging is measured with the lifting distance of scapula retraction to the back using an electronic digital caliper. In two groups of four-leg crawling posture, the two legs support, the dominant leg lifting, and the non-dominant leg lifting, including the scapula protraction, were performed. To examine the difference between groups in the variance analysis, the Bonferroni correction was used (significance level ${\alpha}=.017$). Statistical significance level ${\alpha}$ was .05. Results: There was a significant difference in serratus anterior muscle and upper trapezius muscle during push-up plus exercise in leg lifting in four-leg crawling posture, but there were no significant differences in muscle activity between serratus anterior muscle and upper trapezius muscle, and there was no significant difference according to the presence or absence of scapular winging. Conclusion: For the shoulder stability of the ipsilateral side with the serratus anterior muscle, the leg-lifting posture is effective in the four-leg crawling, and also when a subject with winged scapula chooses an exercise, lifting the ipsilateral side of leg with scapula protraction exercises at the same time may have a positive effect on scapula dysfunction.

Since the mid 1990s, in response to rapid changes in Geography subject. Geographic Information Systems (GIS) has been in central position in the UK geography curriculum. This paper discusses the roles of GIS for Geography subject curriculum and addresses main development within UK Geography curriculum since the 1990s, and investigates appropriate GIS curriculum that encourages teaching and learning of geography subject within the curriculum. To obtain these research purposes. this paper starts with the brief description of the Geography subject in the National Curriculum for England (1998) with the recent changes of Geography subject in the national exams (GSCE and A level) in the UK. This result represents a clear situation of Geography subject in the UK school education and also provides a new motivation that brings new challenges of information technology driven curriculum within the Geography subject. In turn, the interactive relationship of Geography and GIS within the current Geography curriculum is described by which the discussion of relevant GIS skills within Geography curriculum is followed. To propose the case studies that show the use of GIS for Geography education at school, Key Stages 2, 3, and 4 examples are discussed. Finally, this paper concludes with the issues that GIS benefits encourage geography teaching and learning and that potential applications can support not only the development of new teaching tools and learning strategies in geography education at schools, but also contribute to extend geographical skills and capabilities to collaborate with other subjects in school education in Korea.
The objectives of this study was to suggest for prophylatic of Musculoskeletal system disorders in Dental Hyginists and Dental hygiene students to maintain good posture in the dental hygiene curriculum. This study was carried with 100 dental hygienists in "M" city located in Jolla Province and 82 college students majoring in dental hygiene. The results were as follows: 1. During the operators' medical treatment, 41.7% answered that the patients' head was located in the operators' chest during their treatment. Also, 58.3% answered that the patients' head was located in the operators' abdomen. For this reason, 81.3% said that the patients' mouth became close to the operators' eyes - less than 30cm. And 65.1% said that they performed an operation in various directions. 2. The most common posture -between the position of operating and the position of assisting- is the position of operationg 1. The position of operationg 1 and 5 have an effect on the waist, and the position of assisting 3 has an effect on pains of the waist, bottoms, knees, ankles and feet. 3. The common symptoms of musculoskeletal system disorders in dental hygienists and student was the neck ache and the shoulders, and was followed by the lower back. From the cases that they visited in health care or apothecary to the above pain, symptoms were highest in the shoulders(18.3%) and were followed by the lower back(13.4%) and neck(9.1%). 4. On The necessity of education related to, According to researches, 96.3% college students and 92.5% dental hygienists answered that education related to Musculoskeletal system disorders is necessary. 5. In this study, I have 3 limitations. First, the subject of survey was selected for specific people in the specific city, Second, the personal judgment was made in judging the relations of the position of operating, the position of assisting and the aches. Third, the relations of the position of operating, the position of assisting and the aches don't have supporting medical evidences. Therefore, this study will be carried on more people with more objectives and medical method.
Back extension exercises have been used for rehabilitation of the injured low back, prevention of injury, and fitness training programs. However, excessive loading on low back can exacerbate existing structural weakness. The purpose of this study was to compare muscle activity of low back muscles during back extension exercises. Twenty healthy male subject s were evaluated. Electromyographic (EMG) activities of low back muscles at L1 and L5 level were recorded during seven different back extension exercises and two reference tasks by surface EMG and saved for data analysis. Reference tasks of lifting 20% and 40% of their body weight were included for comparison. The result were as follows: 1) Single-arm extension and single-leg extension exercises on quadruped position appeared to constitute a low-risk exercise for initial extensor strengthening. 2) When arm extension was combined with contralateral leg extension on quadruped position, EMG activities of low back muscles were increased. 3) EMG activity of low back muscles was highest during the trunk extension exercises on prone position. 4) EMG activities of low back muscles during arm and leg extension exercises on quadruped position were less than those of reference task of lifting 40% of their body weight. These result s have important implications for progressive back extensor muscle strengthening exercises in patients with back pain.

It was hard for a conventional care-bed to be realized to a low-floor position due to a complex actuation mechanism installed under the mattress support platform. In this paper a mechanism design to set a low-floor position as well as to adjust back- and leg-rest angles was proposed. A dual motor was applied to the back- and leg-rest mechanism of which design parameters were determined by an optimal method. An elevation mechanism was also designed to enlarge a limited stroke range up to two times of its original stroke using a pulley mechanism. An evaluation test was performed by five healthy subjects ($24.4{\pm}0.5yrs.$) when going up from a floor position to a preset best position which was set to the 240mm height for a prototype low-floor bed and to the 600mm height for a conventional bed. As a result, the moving distance was 38% lower than the conventional bed when the subject used the low-floor bed. It showed that the low-floor care-bed reduced physical burdens and was effective to assist activities of daily living of the elderly people.
Purpose: This study was to evaluate several tasks performed at a high intensity in terms of their ability to elicit EMG activity in the serratus anterior by comparing the EMG activities of the serratus anterior, upper trapezius, and lower trapezius muscles during six tasks combined shoulder flexion with rotation. Methods: Fifteen healthy males were recruited to this study. Each subject was instructed to assume a sitting position without back support and asked to flex (90° or 120°) the right shoulder and protract the scapula in the sagittal plane with maximal external rotation; to assume a neutral position; or to internally rotate the glenohumeral joint. The EMG data were collected from the serratus anterior (SA), upper trapezius (UT), and lower trapezius (LT) muscles were normalized to maximum voluntary isometric contraction. The UT/LT and UT/SA muscle activity ratios in each task were assessed by calculating the surface EMG. Data were analyzed by two-way repeated-measures analysis of variance, with the level of significance set at p<0.05. Results: The results of this study, shoulder flexion with external rotation resulted in low upper trapezius/serratus anterior and upper trapezius/lower trapezius ratios and a relatively high level of serratus anterior activation. Conclusion: Shoulder flexion with external rotation used herein may be considered as important for clinical interventions aimed at selectively increasing SA strengthen and clinical selection of exercises for improving glenohumeral joint and scapulothoracic control.
The aim of this study was to evaluate driving performance of Healthy and disabled groups (with or without driver's license) to control steering wheel by using steering assistive devices in the driving simulator. The persons with partial loss of use of all four limbs have problems in operation of the motor vehicle because of functional loss to operate steering wheel. Therefore, if steering assistive devices for grasping the steering wheel are used to control the vehicle on the road in persons with disabilities, the disabled persons can improve mobility in their community life by driving a motor vehicle safely. Ten healthy subjects (with or w/o driver's license) and ten subjects with physical disabilities (with or w/o driver's license) were involved in this study to evaluate driving performance to operate steering wheel by using four types of steering assistive devices (Single-pin, V-grip, Palm-grip, Tri-pin) in driving simulator. STISim Drive 3 software was used to test the steering performance in four scenarios: straight road at low and high speed of vehicle (40 km/h and 80 km/h), curved road at low and high speed of vehicle (40 km/h and 80 km/h). This study used two-way ANOVA in order to compare the effects of two factors (type of steering assistive device and subject group) in the three dependent variables of driving performance (the lateral position of vehicle, standard deviation of lateral position representing the variation of the left and right movement of the vehicle and the number of line crossing). The mean values of the three dependent variables (lateral position, standard deviation of lateral position, the number of line crossing) of steering performance were statistically significantly smaller for the healthy or disabled groups with driver's license than the other groups without driver's license on the curved road at high speed of vehicle compared to low speed of vehicle.
The author studied on the effect of TMJ sounds to the patterns and ranges of mandibular border movements in horizontal plane with Pantograph (Denar Corp.). For study, 19 patients with TMJ sounds only and 16 students with no TM disorder were selected and classified as experimental group and control group, respectively. The subject performed right lateral movement, left lateral movement, and forward movement. Each movement were performed 3 times and the movement trajectory obtained with mechanical pantograph were observed for accordance of centric relation position, reproducibility and/or restriction of lateral movement paths, deviation of protrusive path in anterior table, restriction of protrusive condylar movement path in posterior horizontal table, presence of Fisher angle in posterior vertical table. And pantographic reproducibility Index (PRI) were obtained with pantronic by the same movement method as in the mechanical pantograph record. The obtained results were as follows : 1. In experimental group, PRI scores in those who show accordance of centric relation position were 14.4, and were 26.53 in those who did not show accordance of centric relation position. However, the PRI scores of the two subgroups show no statistically significant difference in control group. Therefore, in experimental group, the capability of accordance of centric relation position affected largely the PRI scores than in control group. 2. Deviation of protrusive path was opposite to the affected side in experimental group, and was left side in control group. 3. Restriction side of condylar movement in protrusion was ipsilateral to the deviation side in experimental group, but in control group, restriction side was not related to the deviation side. 4. PRI scores in experimental group were 23.2 (moderate dysfunction category), and in control group, were 17.8 (slight dysfunction category). The PRI scores in control group, however, implies that the evaluation of temporomandibular disorders by the PRI scores only may be unreasonable.
