Design Process of Light-weighted Fuel Cell Vehicle Body Frame (경량 연료전지 차체프레임 설계 프로세스)

  • This paper presents a design process of light-weighted fuel cell vehicle (FCV) frame to meet design target of natural frequency in early design stage. At first, using validated FE model for the current design, thickness optimization was carried out. Next. optimization process, comprised of beam model size optimization, shell model design and shell model thickness optimization, was investigated for two frame types. In addition, in order to ensure hydrogen tanks safety against rear impact load, structural collapse characteristics was estimated for the rear frame model finally produced from the previous optimization process and, with the target of equal collapse characteristics to the current design model, structural modification with small weight increase was studied through static structural collapse analyses. The same attempt was applied to the front side frame. The results explain that the proposed process enables to design light-weighted frames with high structural performance in early stage.

Verification of Structural Dynamics Modification Using Surface Grooving Technique : Using Optimization with Fully Embossed HDD cover model (극한값으로부터의 최적화를 이용한 그루브를 통한 표면형상변형 동특성 변경법 검증)

  • Structural Dynamics Modification (SDM) is a very effective technique to improve structure's dynamic characteristics by adding or removing auxiliary structures, changing material properties and shape of structure. Among those of SDM technique, the method to change shape of structure has been mostly relied on engineer's experience and trial-and-error process which are very time consuming. In order to develop a systematic method to change structure shape, surface grooving technique is studied and successfully applied to HDD cover model. To verify Surface Grooving Technique, fully embossed HDD cover model was optimized. And comparing with previous optimization result, the effectiveness of this surface grooving technique was checked. The shape of groove and 1 st natural frequency were converged to the same result of previous optimization.

  • For a large structure, substructure based SDM(structural dynamics modification) method is very effective to raise its dynamic characteristics. Dividing into smaller substructures has a major advantage in the aspect of computation especially for getting sensitivities, which are in the core of SDM process. But quite often, non-matching nodes problem occurs in the process of synthesizing substructures. The reason is that, in general, each substructure is modelled separately, then later combined together to form a entire structure model under interface constraint conditions. Without solving the non-matching nodes problem, the substructure based SDM can not be processed. In this work, virtual node concept is introduced. Lagrange multipliers are used to enforce the interface compatibility constraint. The governing equation of whole structure is derived using hybrid variational principle. The eigenvalues of whole structure are calculated using determinant search method. The number of degrees of freedom of the eigenvalue problem can be drastically reduced to just the number of interface degree of freedom. Thus, the eigenvalue sensitivities can be easily calculated, and further SDM can be efficiently performed. Some numerical problems are tested to show the effectiveness of handling non-matching nodes.

A Study on Optimum Modification of Dynamic Characteristics of Stiffened Plate Using Simplified Equation of Natural Frequency (고유진동수의 간이 추정식을 이용한 보강판 구조물의 동특성의 최적변경에 관한 연구)

  • There is a purpose of this study for the proposal of the optimum technique utilized for the vibration design initial step. The stiffened plate structure for the ship hull is made for analysis model. To begin with, dynamic characteristics of stiffened plate structure is analysed using FEM. Main vibrational mode of the structure is decided in the analytical result of FEM. The simplified equation on the natural frequency of the main vibrational mode is induced. Next, sensitivity analysis is carried out using the simplified equation, and rate of change of dynamic characteristics is calculated. Then, amount of design variable is calculated using this sensitivity value and optimum structural modification method. The change of natural frequency is made to be an objective function. Thickness of panel, cross section moment of stiffener and girder become a design variable. The validity of the optimization method using simplified equation is examined. It is shown that the result effective in the optimum modification for natural frequency of the stiffened plate structure.

  • The blower which is installed in a FCEV(fuel cell electric vehicle) may cause noise due to misalignment and unbalance of mechanical components that rotate at high speed. One of the key points in efforts to minimize the noise radiation from a blower is the knowledge of the main radiating component and the relation between the surface vibration of a blower and the sound pressure. In this research, the blower model is developed based on FEM(finite element method). FE(finite element) model is reliable by correlation of frequencies and MAC(modal assurance criterion) values between EMA(experimental modal analysis) and FEA(finite element analysis). This model is applied to predict the vibration of a blower by using inverse force identification method and predict the radiating noise by using BEM(boundary element method). Comparing the frequencies of resonance and those mode shapes between EMA and FEA, a structural modification of the FE model is evaluated for reducing the parameters of the blower noise.

  • It is important to model the mechanical structure precisely and reasonably in predicting the dynamic characteristics, controlling the vibration, and designing the structural dynamics. In the finite element modeling, the errors can be contained from the physical parameters, the approximation of the boundary conditions, and the element modeling, From the dynamic test. more precise dynamic characteristics can be obtained. Model updating using parameter modification is appropriate when the design parameter is used to analyze the input parameter like finite element method. Finite element analysis for free-free-free-free(FFFF) and clamped-free-free-free(CFFF) plate with uniform area and shape change are carried out as model updating examples, Mass and stiffness matrices are updated by comparing test and analytical modal frequencies. The result shows that the updated frequencies become closer to the test frequencies.

  • Structural intensity has been mainly utilized to identify vibration energy flow in a vessel. In this paper, the structural intensity of a shuttle tanker subjected to H-moment of the main engine was calculated using a finite element model. From the analysis, it was found that the top-bracing elements, which support the main engine onto the hull structure to prevent the excessive transverse vibration of the main engine, play the role of the dominant path and sink for vibration energy flow from the main engine. Therefore, the structural intensity was controlled by the modification of stiffness and damping characteristics of the top-bracing elements. As a result, it is observed that the transverse vibration level at the center of navigation bridge deck decreased after the control of structural intensity.

  • A study of prediction and qualification techniques for structure borne booming noise is presented in this paper. Result from acoustic normal mode finite element analysis of a 1/2 size vehicle cavity sample model is compared to the that from an experiment. Coupled structural-acoustic analysis is performed on a 1/4 size vehicle cavity sample model surrounded by 2 mm thick normal steel plates. Interior noise levels around passensger's ear position are predicted and reduced by structural modification based on panel participation factor analysis about the sample cavity model. Futhermore, optimization technique in application of anti-vibration pad is studied.

  • In the mechanical systems with large damping, the conventional SDM method developed for no damping systems will lead to an error solution. Here, we introduce a SDM method based on the experimental modal model for large damping systems. The sensitivities of natural frequencies and mode shapes with respect to mass, damping, and stiffness coefficients of structures are used to calculate the position and quantity of modification, and predict the new dynamic characteristics. Through numerical simulation and experiment, the effectiveness of the proposed method is tested.
