Performance comparison of shear walls with openings designed using elastic stress and genetic evolutionary structural optimization methods

  • Shear walls are a typical member under a complex stress state and have complicated mechanical properties and failure modes. The separated-elements model Genetic Evolutionary Structural Optimization (GESO), which is a combination of an elastic-plastic stress method and an optimization method, has been introduced in the literature for designing such members. Although the separated-elements model GESO method is well recognized due to its stability, feasibility, and economy, its adequacy has not been experimentally verified. This paper seeks to validate the adequacy of the separated-elements model GESO method against experimental data and demonstrate its feasibility and advantages over the traditional elastic stress method. Two types of reinforced concrete shear wall specimens, which had the location of an opening in the middle bottom and the center region, respectively, were utilized for this study. For each type, two specimens were designed using the separated-elements model GESO method and elastic stress method, respectively. All specimens were subjected to a constant vertical load and an incremental lateral load until failure. Test results indicated that the ultimate bearing capacity, failure modes, and main crack types of the shear walls designed using the two methods were similar, but the ductility indexes including the stiffness degradation, deformability, reinforcement yielding, and crack development of the specimens designed using the separated-elements model GESO method were superior to those using the elastic stress method. Additionally, the shear walls designed using the separated-elements model GESO method, had a reinforcement layout which could closely resist the actual critical stress, and thus a reduced amount of steel bars were required for such shear walls.

Detection of nonlinear structural behavior using time-frequency and multivariate analysis

  • Most of the practical engineering structures exhibit nonlinearity due to nonlinear dynamic characteristics of structural joints, nonlinear boundary conditions and nonlinear material properties. Hence, it is highly desirable to detect and characterize the nonlinearity present in the system in order to assess the true behaviour of the structural system. Further, these identified nonlinear features can be effectively used for damage diagnosis during structural health monitoring. In this paper, we focus on the detection of the nonlinearity present in the system by confining our discussion to only a few selective time-frequency analysis and multivariate analysis based techniques. Both damage induced nonlinearity and inherent structural nonlinearity in healthy systems are considered. The strengths and weakness of various techniques for nonlinear detection are investigated through numerically simulated two different classes of nonlinear problems. These numerical results are complemented with the experimental data to demonstrate its suitability to the practical problems.

  • 최근 시설물의 안전 및 유지관리에 관심이 증대되고 있으나, 발주처의 저가발주로 인해 안전진단전문기관은 부실화 되고 부실 점검 및 진단으로 인한 많은 문제점들이 야기되고 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 실무자들의 인식조사와 사례분석을 통해 실행대가 현황을 고찰하였으며, 그 결과 정밀안전점검은 대가기준 조정보다는 대가기준의 효율성 증대 및 강제성 강화가 필요한 것으로 판단된다. 또한 정밀안전진단은 연면적 $10,000m^2$미만 시설물에 대한 대가기준 설계금액을 현재 기준에서 80%로 하향조정하고, 그 이상의 시설물에 대해서는 현행 대가기준을 적용하되, 대가기준의 강제성 강화가 필요할 것으로 판단된다.

국내외 홍채학 연구동향 (A Review of Iridology)

  • Objectives Iridology is a field of study that diagnoses various systemic diseases through analysis of colors, structural characteristics and changes in iris. The purpose of this study was to review previously published study results of the iridology. Methods The studies were searched with the keyword "iridology" through search engines such as SCOPUS, Pub med, RISS, and NDSL. Total of 36 iridology-related studies published from 1980 to 2012 were analyzed. Results Most diagnoses of systemic disease through iris markings were insignificant. The studies on relevance of gene polymorphism and iris constitution were highly significant. The studies on relevance of Sasang constitution and iris constitution varied in results depending on diagnosis methods. The studies on relevance of iris constitution and diseases had significant results. The structural characteristics of iris were related to certain personality. Conclusions The studies on utility of iris diagnosis and diagnostic markings were negative, but the relevance of constitution, heredity, and iris diagnosis was positive. A persistent in-depth study on relevance of iris and constitution is needed in the future.

Linear system parameter as an indicator for structural diagnosis of short span bridges

  • This paper intended to investigate the feasibility of bridge health monitoring using a linear system parameter of a time series model identified from traffic-induced vibrations of bridges through a laboratory moving vehicle experiment on scaled model bridges. This study considered the system parameter of the bridge-vehicle interactive system rather than modal ones because signals obtained under a moving vehicle are not the responses of the bridge itself but those of the interactive system. To overcome the shortcomings of modal parameter-based bridge diagnosis using a time series model, this study considered coefficients of Autoregressive model (AR coefficients) as an early indicator of anomaly of bridges. This study also investigated sensitivity of AR coefficients in detecting anomaly of bridges. Observations demonstrated effectiveness of using AR coefficients as an early indicator for anomaly of bridges.

가족체계 진단 척도 개발 및 타당화 연구 - Minuchin의 구조적 가족치료 이론에 기초하여 - (The Development of the Family System Diagnosis Scale and Its Validity - On the Basis of Minuchin′s Structural Family Therapy Theory-)

  • The purpose of this study was to develop the Family System Diagnosis Scale and to examine its reliability and validity. The subscales of the questionnaire included scores on seven constructs. In order to define constructs accurately, a careful review of Minuchin's writings, the writings of other family therapists, and relevant articles on family interaction was undertaken. A pool of 150 items was given to eight family counselors along with a description of Minuchin' s concepts. The counselors were asked to choose the category each statement fit and to rate the degree of fit using the 3-point scale. Using exploratory factor analysis, confirmatory factor analysis and Linear Structural Relationship(LISREL), six subdimensions of individuation and 55 items of FSDS were identified; enmeshmen disengagement(16 items), parent coalition generational coalition(6 items), flexibility rigidity(5 items), spouse conflict resolved unresolved(8 items), mother-child cohesion estrangement(10 items), father-child cohesion estrangement(10 items). 356 adolescents(ages 13∼18), 356 fathers, 356 mothers in Seoul, Busan, Dague, Incheun, Dajeun, Ulsan, and Kwangju were completed the Family System Diagnosis Scale(FSDS). The reliability of the scale was calculated by Cronbach's a Coefficient and the total a = .94 and the calculation for each factor was .87, .60, .77, .80 and .79 respectively.

터널의 유지관리를 위한 전문가시스템 개발(I) : 시스템 구축 및 적용성 검토 (Development of Expert System for Maintenance of Tunnel(I))

  • The maintenance of tunnels is often neglected since tunnels has tendency to become stable with time. The determination of safety of tunnels is a complicated problem. So the role of experienced engineer in the maintenance is very important and development of an expert system which can perform as these engineers has been needed. In this study, an expert system which can determine the safety of tunnels is developed. The developed knowledge base contains the maintenance procedure which is used in KlSTEC(Korea Infrastructure Safety & Technology Corporation). Field test, laboratory test and nondestructive test methods are considered in this knowledge base. Criteria for each item and integrated diagnosis criteria are implemented in the expert system based on literatures and reports. The expert system includes basic inspection. detail inspection and precision inspection. For precision inspection. it has the capacity to exchange the result from numerical analysis by a commercial program FLAC. To verify the expert system. the proposed procedure was compared with an existing tunnel diagnosis report.

  • 기존 연구에서 살펴보면, 철근콘크리트구조물에 발생한 화재로 인해 경화된 시멘트 페이스트와 골재의 수축과 팽창의 차이에 따라 조직이 와해되고, 열응력에 의해 균열이 발생하여 내구성이 저하한다. 그래서 성능저하의 정확한 진단은 일반적인 콘크리트구조물에서 방화성능저하의 매커니즘에 관한 기초가 요구되며, 고온에 노출된 콘크리트의 특성에 대한 기초 정보와 데이터는 성능저하의 정확한 진단을 위해 필요하다. 따라서, 본 연구는 다양한 콘크리트 시험체를 제작하여, 고온 환경에서 노출시켜, 폭열을 관찰하고, 공학적인 특성을 평가함으로서 화재피해를 입은 콘크리트구조물 성능저하의 빠르고 정확한 진단을 위한 기초적인 데이터를 제공하고자 한다.

  • As economic rapid growth, large structures are damaged by defects from design and construction process of the formation and environments. Therefore, safety diagnosis and monitoring skills are bringing importance into relief and legislate for safety diagnosis of large structures. However, the existing monitoring systems are difficult by using wire cable because of cost, error of date, location, revise. In this paper, wireless sensor network which are accelerator, temperature sensor system using ubiquitous had been field test on Sea-Hea Grand bridge. We compare accelerator, temperature sensor system with wire and wireless sensor network.

A Vehicle SoC Fault Diagnosis Technique using FlexRay Protocol

  • In this paper, we propose vehicle SoC fault diagnosis platform using FlexRay protocol in order to detect the faults of semiconductor control chip even after vehicle production. Before FlexRay protocol by sending NFI (Null Frame Indicator) bit among the header segment and a specific identifier in the payload segment of FlexRay frame, this technique can be distinguishable from normal mode and test mode. By using this technique, it is possible to detect the faults such as performance degradation of vehicle network system caused by the aging or several problems of vehicle semiconductor chip. Also high reliability and safety of vehicle can be maintained by using structural test for vehicle SoC fault detection.
