Self-Curing Self Compacting Concrete (SCSCC), is a special concrete in contemporary construction practice aimed at enhancing the performance of structural concrete. Its primary function is to ensure a sufficient moisture supply that facilitates hydration along with flow, particularly in the context of high-rise buildings and tall structures. This innovative concrete addresses the challenges of maintaining adequate curing conditions in large-scale projects, maintaining requisite workability, contributing to the overall durability and longevity of concrete structures. For implementing such a versatile material in construction, it is imperative to understand the stress-strain (S-S) behaviour. The primary aim of this study is to develop the S-S curves for TCSCSCC and compare through experimental results. Finite element (FE) analysis based ATENA-GiD was employed for the numerical simulation and develop the analytical stress-strain curves by introducing parameters viz., grade of concrete, tie diameter, tie spacing and yield strength. The stress ratio and the strain ratios are evaluated and compared with experimental values. The mean error is 1.2% with respect to stresses and 2.2% in case of strain. Finally, the stress block parameters for tie confined SCSCC are evaluated and equations are proposed for the same in terms of confinement index.
A total stress-based bounding surface model is developed to predict the undrained behaviour of saturated soft clays under cyclic loads based on the anisotropic hardening modulus field and bounding-surface theories. A new hardening rule is developed based on a new interpolation function of the hardening modulus that has simple mathematic expression and fewer model parameters. The evolution of hardening modulus field is described in the deviatoric stress space. It is assumed that the stress reverse points are the mapping centre points and the mapping centre moves with the variation of loading and unloading paths to describe the cyclic stress-strain hysteresis curve. In addition, by introducing a model parameter that reflects the accumulation rate and level of shear strain to the interpolation function, the cyclic shakedown and failure behaviour of soil elements with different combinations of initial and cyclic stresses can be captured. The methods to determine the model parameters using cyclic triaxial compression tests are also studied. Finally, the cyclic triaxial extension and torsional shear tests are performed. By comparing the predictions with the test results, the model can be used to describe undrained cyclic stress-strain responses of elements with different stress states for the tested clays.

In this paper, the effect of active confinement on the compressive behaviour of circular steel tube-confined concrete (STCC) and concrete-filled steel tube (CFST) columns is investigated. In STCC columns the axial load is only applied to the concrete core, while in CFST columns the load is carried by the whole composite section. A new method is introduced to apply confining pressure on fresh concrete by laterally prestressing steel tubes. In order to achieve different prestressing levels, short-term and long-term pressures are applied to the fresh concrete. Three groups of STCC and CFST specimens (passive, S-active and L-active groups) are tested under axial loads. The results including stress-strain relationships of composite column components, secant modulus of elasticity, and volumetric strain are presented and discussed. Based on the elastic-plastic theory, the behaviour of the steel tube is also analyzed during elastic, yielding, and strain hardening stages. The results show that using the proposed prestressing method can considerably improve the compressive behaviour of both STCC and CFST specimens, while increasing the prestressing level has insignificant effects. By applying prestressing, the linear range in the stress-strain curve of STCC specimens increases by almost twice as much, while the improvement is negligible in CFST specimens.

In this study, the in-situ stress, strength and stress-strain characteristics with shear parameters (UU, CU, ${\bar{CU}}$) are analytically evaluated and the stability analyses are carried out under loading/unloading conditions. The in-situ stress and the stress-strain behaviour may become different according to input shear parameters in finite element analyses with construction step, Especially, if the internal friction angle in Mohr-Coulomb model is set to zero, the in-situ stress and the stress-strain behaviour might not be properly predicted. The results from CU parameter of total stress analysis have no significant difference with the results from CU of effective stress analysis. Therefore, in the numerical analysis for soft ground, CU parameters can be applied to predict in-situ stress and stress-strain behaviors. In addition, the calculation method was proposed to determine the shear parameter of Mohr-Coulomb model, which is corresponding to the shear strength equivalent to that of in-situ soil.
The behaviour of alloys in the semi-solid state strongly depends on the imposed stress stage and on the morphology of the phase which can vary from dendritic to globular. To optimal net shape forging of semi-solid materials, it is important to investigate for material behaviour for variation of strain rate. Therefore, to investigate the effect of compression speed on deformation of aluminum alloy with globular microstructure, the compression test for semi-solid aluminum alloy with controlled solid fraction is perform by material test system which is attracted with furance. The behavior of semi-solid aluminum alloy were discussed for the various solid fraction and die speed. The material constants in stress-strain were are also proposed.
The ratcheting and strain cyclic behaviour of joined conical-cylindrical shells under uniaxial strain controlled, uniaxial and multiaxial stress controlled cyclic loading are investigated in the paper. The elasto-plastic deformation of the structure is simulated using Chaboche non-linear kinematic hardening model in finite element package ANSYS 13.0. The stress-strain response near the joint of conical and cylindrical shell portions is discussed in detail. The effects of strain amplitude, mean stress, stress amplitude and temperature on ratcheting are investigated. Under strain symmetric cycling, the stress amplitude increases with the increase in imposed strain amplitude. Under imposed uniaxial/multiaxial stress cycling, ratcheting strain increases with the increasing mean/amplitude values of stress and temperature. The abrupt change in geometry at the joint results in local plastic deformation inducing large strain variations in the vicinity of the joint. The forcing frequency corresponding to peak axial ratcheting strain amplitude is significantly smaller than the frequency of first linear elastic axial vibration mode. The strains predicted from quasi static analysis are significantly smaller as compared to the peak strains from dynamic analysis.
This study deals with the stress-strain-strain rate behaviour of overconsolidated clay. Consolidated-drained stress path tests were performed on the stress-time dependent condition. Stress history consists of rotation angle of stress path, overconsolidation ratio, and magnitude of length of recent stress path. Time history includes loading rate of recent and current stress path. Test results show that all influence factors have an increasing strain rate with time, and the strain rate varies with the change of the rotation angle of stress path. With the increase of overconsolidation ratio and loading rate of current stress path, the strain rate also increases. For the stress history, correlation between stress-strain and strain rate is indicated but the time history is not.
The confined concrete stress-strain curves utilised in computational models of concrete-filled steel tubular (CFST) columns can have a significant influence on the accuracy of the predicted behaviour. A generic model is proposed for predicting the stress-strain behaviour of confined concrete in short circular, elliptical and octagonal CFST columns subjected to axial compression. The finite element (FE) analysis is carried out to simulate the concrete confining pressure in short circular, elliptical and octagonal CFST columns. The concrete confining pressure relies on the geometric and material parameters of CFST columns. The post-peak behaviour of the concrete stress-strain curve is determined using independent existing experimental results. The strength reduction factor is derived for predicting the descending part of the confined concrete behaviour. The fibre element model is developed for the analysis of circular, elliptical and octagonal CFST short columns under axial loading. The FE model and fibre element model accounting for the proposed concrete confined model is verified by comparing the computed results with experimental results. The ultimate axial strengths and complete axial load-strain curves obtained from the FE model and fibre element model agree reasonably well with experimental results. Parametric studies have been carried out to examine the effects of important parameters on the compressive behaviour of short circular, elliptical and octagonal CFST columns. The design model proposed by Liang and Fragomeni (2009) for short circular, elliptical and octagonal CFST columns is validated by comparing the predicted results with experimental results.
A phase mixture model was employed to simulate the deformation behaviour of metallic materials covering a wide grain size range from micrometer to nanometer scale. In this model a polycrystalline material is treated as a mixture of two phases: grain interior phase whose plastic deformation is governed by dislocation and diffusion mechanisms and grain boundary 'phase' whose plastic flow is controlled by a boundary diffusion mechanism. The main target of this study was the effect of grain size on stress and its strain rate sensitivity as well as on the strain hardening. Conventional Hall-Petch behaviour in coarse grained materials at high strain rates governed by the dislocation glide mechanism was shown to be replaced with inverse Hall-Petch behaviour in ultrafine grained materials at low strain rates, when both phases deform predominantly by diffusion controlled mechanisms. The model predictions are illustrated by examples from literature.
The strain ageing behaviour of quenched Zircaloy--4 has been studied as a function of ageing time and temperature in the temperature range 523 to 588 K for a short-ageing time of 1 to 52 seconds. At the test conditions, the strain ageing stress increased with ageing time and temperature at a strain rate of 5.55$\times$10$^{-4}$ sec$^{-1}$ . Applying stress on the Quenched Zircaloy-4, the strain ageing effect indicated following two stages: an initial stage having an activation energy of 0.39 ev considered to be due to Snoek type ordering of intersitial oxygen atoms in the stress field of a dislocation and a second stage having an activation energy of 0.60 ev, due to mainly long-range diffusion of oxygen atoms.
