A straight pipe is used after complicated bending work in a mechanical system. In this work process, the plastic deformation of the pipe produces residual stress in the pipe. This residual stress significantly affects the behavior of pipe fracture. For this reason, residual stress must be evaluated. Measuring the residual stress of a U-shaped pipe is difficult with existing destructive and nondestructive measurement methods. In this paper, the residual stress of a U-shaped aluminum pipe (99.7% pure aluminum) was evaluated from the Raman shift by Raman spectroscopy and FEM(Finite Element Method, FEM) analysis. The results of the stiffness test by FEM analysis are compared with those by experiments. The analyzed results of the Raman spectra showed a similar tendency with the results of the FEM analysis with respect to the residual stress distributions in U-shaped pipes. Also, the results of the bending tests showed resemblance to each other.
Order of stress singularities at bonded Edge Corners with two or three dissimilar isotropic Materials is analyzed. The problem is formulated by Mellin transform and characteristic equation is obtained as a determinant of matrix considering boundary conditions. Roots of characterictic equation are determinde by numerical calculations with ward method, from which the order of stress sigularities is obtained. Applying the results to the electronic packaging, the order of stress singularities is obtained. Applying the results to the electronic packaging, the order of stress singularities at bounded edge corners is calculated as a various bouned edge angle with given material combinations. Comparing the results, the optimal material combinaitons of bounded edge corners and bouned edge angle to reduce stress singularity could be determined. It suggests that the results are used to the basic design of electronic packaging reducing the stress singularity.
Primary water stress corrosion cracking (PWSCC) is a major safety concern in the nuclear power industry worldwide. PWSCC is known to initiate only in the condition in which sufficiently high tensile stress is applied to alloy 600 tube material or alloy 82/182 weld material in pressurized water reactor operating environments. However, it is still uncertain how much tensile stress is re-quired to generate PWSCC or what causes such high tensile stress. This study was performed to pre-dict the magnitude of weld residual stress and operating stress and compare it with previous experi-mental results for PWSCC initiation. For the study, a pressurizer safety nozzle was selected because it is reported to be vulnerable to PWSCC in overseas plants. The assessment was conducted by nu-merical analysis. Before performing stress analysis for plant conditions, a preliminary mock-up ana-lysis was done. The result of the preliminary analysis was validated by residual stress measurement in the mock-up. After verification of the analysis methodology, an analysis under plant conditions was conducted. The analysis results show that the stress level is not high enough to initiate PWSCC. If a plant is properly welded and operated, PWSCC is not likely to occur in the pressurizer safety nozzle.
Uniaxial ratcheting behavior of Z2CND18.12N austenitic stainless steel used nuclear power plant piping material was studied. The results indicated that ratcheting strain increased with increasing of stress amplitude under the same mean stress and different stress amplitude, ratcheting strain increased with increasing of mean stress under the same stress amplitude and different mean stress. Based on least square method, a suitable method to arrest ratcheting by loading the materials was proposed, namely determined method of zero ratcheting strain rate. Zero ratcheting strain rate occur under specified mean stress and stress amplitudes. Moreover, three dimensional ratcheting boundary surface graph was established with stress amplitude, mean stress and ratcheting strain rate. This represents a graphical surface zone to study the ratcheting strain rates for various mean stress and stress amplitude combinations. The graph showed the ratcheting behavior under various combinations of mean and amplitude stresses. The graph was also expressed with the help of experimental results of certain sets of mean and stress amplitude conditions. Further, experimentation cost and time can be saved.
Objectives : The purpose of this study was to identify the mediation effect of a positive stress coping strategy between clinical practice stress and clinical practice satisfaction in nursing students. Methods : In this study, data was collected from 248 nursing students at K University in South Korea from October of 2015 to November of 2015. The collected data was analyzed using the SPSS 22.0 Statistics Program. Results : Clinical practice stress and a positive stress coping strategy were significant predictors of clinical practice satisfaction (${\beta}$=.442, p<.001). The explanatory power of the measure of clinical practice satisfaction was increased to 29.3% (p<.001) with solely clinical practice stress, and it reached 44.2% (p<.001) when a positive stress coping strategy was reflected. The results of this study confirmed that a positive stress coping strategy has a mediation effect on clinical practice stress and clinical practice satisfaction levels. Conclusions : It is necessary to develop a program to take advantage of positive stress coping skills so that nursing college students can smoothly overcome stress during their clinical training and thus improve their clinical practice experience.
The fatigue strength of welded joint is influenced by the welding residual stress which is relaxed depending on local stress distributed in vicinity of stress raisers, eg. under cut, overlap and blow hole. To evaluate its fatigue life the geometry of the stress raisers and the welding residual stress should be taken into account. The several methods based on notch strain approach have been proposed in order to consider the two factors above mentioned. These methods, however, have shown considerable differences between analytical and experimental results. It is due to the fact that the amount of the relaxed welding residual stress evaluated by the cyclic stress-strain relationship do not correspond with that occurred in reality. In this paper the residual stress relaxation model based on experimental results was used in order to reduce the discrepancy of the estimated amount of the relaxed welding residual stress. Under an assumption of the superimposition of the relaxed welding residual stress and the local stress, a modified notch strain approach was proposed and verified to the cruciform welded joint.
In this paper, the residual stresses for the wide-band laser heat treatment using a polygon mirror have been analyzed. The results of FE analysis are compared with the experimental results. ANSYS Version 5.3, a commercial FE-code, is used for the FE stress analysis. The structural analysis was performed on after thermal analysis. The residual stress distribution across the hardened area was measured by the X-ray diffraction technique. The laser hardening conditions, 2kW laser power and 2mm/s travel speed, were used for the experiment and the FE analysis. Analysis results, which is maximum tensile residual stress is about 143MPa and maximum compressive residual stress is about -380MPa. Under same parameters with the analysis, experimental results indicate that MTRS is about 152MPa and MCRS is about -312MPa. The experimental results is about 6% higher than the FE analysis. As a result, residual stress data from the experiment close well with that of the FE analysis.
Objectives : This study was founded to identify the differences of stress responses, according to Sasang Constitutions (the Taeyangin, Taeumin, Soyangin and Soumin) of highly stressed oriental medicine college students. Methods : The subjects were 76 students who majored in oriental medicine. We processed 'University students Stress Scale', and 'Medical Stress Scale'. We selected 30 students who stressed higher than average. We then processed 'QSCC II (Questionnare for the Sasang Constitution Classification II)' and 'Scale for the Stress Response'. Collected data was analyzed with the SPSS 19.0 for windows statistical program. Results : The university students stress score of oriental medicine students was 1.97 that was higher than the other college students. The medical stress score was 2.77, which was similar with other medical college students. The symptoms of stress score was 2.53, which was higher than the others. Particularly, the depressive syndrome and rage syndrome were highly ranked. The frequently appearing symptoms of each type of Sasang Constitutions (the Taeyangin, Taeumin, Soyangin and Soumin) showed as follows. The Soyangin's symptoms of stress showed in order of Anxiety, Depression, and Emotional irritability. The Soumin's symptoms of stress showed in order of Depression, Emotional irritability, and cognitive disorganization. The Taeumin's symptoms of stress showed in order of Anxiety, Depression, and Emotional irritability. However, there was were no significant differences among the results of each constitution. Conclusions : The results show that oriental medicine students have as much stress as other medical college students and there was tendency of showing different patterns of stress response, according to Sasang Constitution, but it's not significantly different.
In this study, it was investigated the distribution of residual stress in the direction of loading between the root and toe the load fillet welds for thick steel plate. Residual stress distributions are measured by sectioning method which is one of stress-relaxation technique in welded joint, and analyzed by two dimensional finite element method on thermo-elasto-plastic theory under plane stress condition. These are compared the results of F.E.M analysis with the experimental result by stress-relaxation techniques. As a results, the following conclusion were obtained. (1) In the no penetration fillet welded joint specimen using mild steel plate with 25mm in thickness, the residual stress of loading direction near the root was about $10kg/mm^2$ tensile. (2) The tensile residual stress has been observed in fillet region of the fillet joint by F.E.M. analysis method. (3) The range of compressive residual stress distribution from the root was largest in the case of 5mm root penetration.
MEMS structures Generally have been fabricated using surface-machining, but the interface failure between silicon substrate and evaporated thin film frequently takes place due to difference of linear coefficient of thermal expansion. Therefore this paper studied the effect of the residual stress caused by variable external loads. This study did not analyzed accurate quantity of the residual stress but trend for the effect of residual stress. Several specimens were fabricated using other material(Al, Au and Cu) and thermal load was applied. The residual stress was measured by nano-indentation using AFM. The results showed the existence of the residual stress due to thermal load. The indentation area of the thermal loaded thin film reduced about 3.5% comparing with the virgin thin film caused by residual stress. The finite element analysis results are similar to indentation test.
