The sensitivity of the extratropical jet to the stratospheric mean state is investigated by conducting a series of idealized numerical experiments using a dynamic-core general circulation model. When the polar stratosphere is forced to be cold, the extratropical jet, defined by the 850-hPa zonal wind, tends to shift poleward without much change in its intensity. The opposite is also true when the polar stratosphere becomes warm. This jet response, however, is not exactly linear. A poleward jet shift under a cold vortex is much weaker than an equatorward jet shift under a warm vortex. The jet intensity change is also larger under a warm vortex. This result indicates that the stratosphere-troposphere downward coupling is more efficient for the warm and weak polar vortex. This finding is consistent with a stronger downward coupling during stratospheric sudden warming than vortex intensification events in the Northern Hemisphere winter, possibly providing a clue to better understand the observed stratosphere-troposphere downward coupling.

This papers described with the analysis for electric Field strength on ground level transmitted from DMB transponder in stratosphere HAPS. It is compare with horizontal propagated ground wave. Resultly we confirm the equal strength a electric field on ground level between hish altitude vertical propagated wave and horizontal ground wave, also, is only 1W compare with terrestrial facility as transmitted output power for the DMB transponder in stratosphere HAPS. It is corresponding to 1Kw as same power value in ground propagated wave. Lastly it is new material wave source and also we concluding remarks as ubiquitous communication networking media.
Studies of atmospheric general circulation in the troposphere and stratosphere are very important to understand the influence of human activities on the global climate and its change. Recently, the existence of an annual cycle in the circulation has been reported by a number of studies. In this study, the residual mean meridional circulation is calculated by the TEM momentum and continuity equations for the period from December 1985 to November 1995 (10 years), and the long-term variations of the circulation and mass fluxes across the 100hPa surface are examined. The multiple regression statistical model is used to obtain quantitatively the long-term variations. This study is focused especially on mean meridional circulation in the troposphere and stratosphere associated with ENSO (El Ni${\tilde{n}}$o-Southern Oscillation) which is known as a cause of the unusual weather, global climate, and its change. The results show that the global scale troposphere-stratosphere mean meridional circulation is intensified during El Ni${\tilde{n}}$o event and QBO (quasi-biennal oscillation) easterly phase and weakened during La Ni${\tilde{n}}$o event and QBO westerly phase. The signal of Mount Pinatubo volcanic eruption in June 1991 is obtained. Due to the volcanic eruption the global scale troposphere-stratosphere mean meridional circulation is abruptly intensified.

Spectroscopic data obtained by the Infrared Interferometer Spectrometer (IRIS) aboard Voyager 1 and 2 have been re-visited. Using the spectroscopic data and footprints of the IRIS aperture on the planet, we constructed images of the stratosphere of Jupiter at the emission bands of hydrocarbons including $CH_4,\;C_2H_6,\;C_2H_2,\;C_3H_4,\;C_6H_6$, and $C_2H_4$. Thermal emission from the hydrocarbons on Jupiter originates from a broad region of the stratosphere extending from 1 to 10 millibars. We averaged the data using a bin of 20 degrees of longitude and latitudes in order to increase signal-to-noise ratios. The resultant images show interesting wave structure in Jupiter's stratosphere. Fourier transform analyses of these images yield wavenumbers 5 - 7 at mid-Northern and mid-Southern latitudes, and these results are different from those resulted from previous ground-based observations and recent Cassini CIRS, suggesting temporal variations on the stratospheric infrared pattern. The comparisons of the Voyager 1 and 2 spectra also show evidence of temporal intensity variations not only on the infrared hydrocarbon polar brightenings of hydrocarbon emissions but also on the stratospheric infrared structure in the temperate regions of Jupiter over the 4 month period between the two Voyager encounters. Short running title: Stratospheric Images of Jupiter derived from Voyager IRIS Spectra.

Recently, the development of an airship that flies through the stratosphere was undertaken in Korea by Korea Aerospace Research Institute like other countries. With the consideration of new operation concept, it is on the rise that the current certification requirements and operation system is not sufficient to secure safety and reliability. This study was performed to establish the certification requirements and operation system. The amendment of airworthiness standards was reviewed by each articles, and the new procedures, as a level of national regulations, for operation was proposed. The results gained through this study can be utilized effectively in the development and operation of subjected airship.

Wireless communication systems using airship have been proposed in worldwide. The airship will be located at the stratosphere about $20{\sim}23\;km$ above the sea level. The position of airship will vary within the station keeping range with time due to the drag of the wind in the stratosphere. When the earth station antenna has a high gain without the tracking function, the antenna performance may be degraded by a small variation of the airship. This means that variation of airship location could result in serious degradation of the system performance. In this paper, degradation in earth station's Equivalent Isotropic Radiated Power (EIRP) and Gain to noise Temperature ratio (G/T) due to the stratospheric platform movements has been derived by calculating the deviation angle of the main beam directions between the earth station and the platform antenna. In this case, the antenna of the earth station has been assumed circular and/or patch array antennas.
We present here the future changes in vertical distribution of temperature and tropopause height using the HadGEM2-AO climate model forced with Representative Concentration Pathways (RCPs) scenarios. Projected changes during the 21st century are shown as differences from the baseline period (1971~2000) for global vertical distribution of temperature and tropopause height. All RCP scenarios show warming throughout the troposphere and cooling in the stratosphere with amplified warming over the lower troposphere in the Northern Hemisphere high latitudes. Upper troposphere warming reaches a maximum in the tropics at the 300 hPa level associated with lapse-rate feedback. Also, the cooling in the stratosphere and the warming in the troposphere raises the height of the tropopause.
The researches about the stratospheric communication system are on process in USA, Japan, Europe and etc. The Airship is expected to be fixed at its position in stratosphere but perhaps its position is changed slightly because of wind in stratosphere. If earth station antenna has high gain without tracking function, even though the airship location has a little variation, degradation of antenna gain is occurred because of narrow beamwidth. In this paper, EIRP and G/T variation of the ground system due to the position variation of airship are examined.
The lower-stratospheric polar temperature in winter and spring for both hemispheres is investigated based on the NCEP/NCAR 50-year reanalysis data with respect to the strength of the stratospheric eddy heat flux. Both the polar temperature and the eddy heat flux show significant variation on the decadal and year-to-year time scales except during the Southern Hemisphere winter. The year-to-year variation in the polar temperature is mainly determined by the eddy heat flux convergence. The eddy heat flux convergence is compared with the diabatic heating rate obtained from a two-dimensional model. Radiative heating caused by absorption of solar radiation is comparable to the heating caused by the eddy heat flux convergence in the Southern Hemisphere. The effect of ozone depletion on diabatic heating has been found to be secondary in the Northern Hemisphere, even in March 1997 when the record depletion of ozone took place.

In this study, we analyze technical requirements for a 50m unmanned airship order to assure safety in the test flight operation. The 50m class unmanned airship developed by Airship Group in Korea Aerospace Research Institute(KARI). The 50m class unmanned airship was developed as a scale-down model of 200m class stratosphere unmanned airship. This study reviews specifications and characteristics of 50m class unmanned airship and develops Airworthiness Requirements on the basis of current effective Aviation Act, Airworthiness standards, and relevant international documents. The developed requirements can be applied to the safety assessment of the 200m class stratosphere unmanned airship.
