  • Story corners in elementary school mathematics practice activity books are newly given for students not only to have interests in mathematics, but to solve story problems related to already learned mathematical contents. In this study, we investigate the story corners in third grade mathematics practice activity books to analyze the contents according to their utilizations. We also suggest their implications. Based on our analysis, we have the following results. First, there are cases where the contents of the story are not related to the corresponding learning contents. Second, there are cases where some the contents or the posed problems related to the story are hard to be understood by students. Third, there are cases where the posed problems are not related to the corresponding learning contents.

  • In this paper, we investigate the comparative effectiveness of two kinds of instructional methods in transfer of mathematics learning: one based on the situated cognition, i.e. situated learning (SL) and the other based on traditional learning (TL). Both classes (of grade 2) studied addition and subtraction of 3-digit numbers. After that, they completed two written tests (Written Test 1 included computation problems, Written Test 2 included computation problems and story problems) and a real situation test. As a result, no significant differences were found between the two groups' performance on computation skill in Written Tests 1 and 2. But the SL group performed significantly better on the performance of story problem and real situation test than TL group. This result indicated that the SL made improvement in transfer of mathematics learning. As a result of interviews with 12 children of the SL group were able to use contextual resources in solving real situation as well as story problems.

  • This paper investigates what informal knowledge and strategies fifth-grade students brought to a classroom and how much they had potential to solve fraction division story problems. The findings show that most of the participants were engaged to understand the meaning of fraction division prior to their formal instruction at school. In order to solve the story problems, the informal knowledge related to fractions as well as division was actively utilized in student's strategies and justification. Students also used various informal strategies from mental calculation, direct modeling, to relational thinking. Formal instructions about fraction division at schools can be facilitated for sense-making of this complex fraction division conception by unpacking informal knowledge and thinking they might bring to the classrooms.

  • A high-rise building construction in Korea has some problems in engineering, construction and management technologies although the high-rise building construction is recently booming. In addition, the lack of skilled construction labors is increasing, so the development for methods is needed to reduce the labors by prefabrication and mechanization. A re-bar work is one of very important works with regard to cost and schedule management in the high-rise building construction. Nevertheless, the re-bar work has some problems that it is needed many re-bars for joints linking and much time for lifting due to high-rise buildings, and it is difficult to level the skill of labors. So, in this study, the pre-fabrication of three-story height in column re-bars is proposed and the results of an implementation are analyzed and explored by a case study. As the results of case study, the pre-fabrication of three-story heights in column re-bars could reduce the cost in the re-bar work and accelerate the time in the structural frame work. In addition, the pre-fabrication of three-story height in column re-bars could solve the problems such as the waste of many re-bars for joints linking, and the lack of the skilled labors.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate how sample story problems should be presented to students to promote their transfer of a comprehensive solution principle to a story problem in a different domain. The variables of interest were example-problem condition, principle learning condition, and recall condition. One hundred and ninety six university students were asked to solve analogical story problems. Contrary to expectations, there were no significant differences between the one-solved-and-one -unsolved problem format and the two-solved-problem format. Also, subjects who were asked to derive a general solution principle did not received higher scores than subjects who were provided with one and subjects who were in the control group. However, the time interval between analog learning and transfer had effect on the subjects' solution of the target problem.

  • The problem-based storytelling of the three-act structure, which sees the plot of the story as a solution to the problem of the character, has been the guide of creation to the creator of popular stories since Aristotle. Also problem-based storytelling has served as a schema that provides dramatic catharsis to the audience of the story, and one of the dramatic catharsis It has been working as a schema. This problem - based storytelling has been used as a structure for story production programs that have been developed since the 1980s. However, this story authoring program is focused only on the external problem of the story, but it has the limitation of producing the story that can not solve the internal problem of the character and provide the catharsis. This paper analyze the plot structure of 'StoryHelper', which is a domestic story authoring program, and the ending of 900 films, both domestic and foreign, which are database in 'StoryHelper'. 'StoryHelper' presents a problem-based plot structure that can consider not only external problems but also internal problems by applying causality and mythical episodes. The structure of these plots is based on the parameters of external problem solving, unresolved internal problem solving, and unresolved variables maturity plot(542films), disillusion plot(111films), education plot(132films), tragedy plot(205films). The results of this analysis are expected to provide a meaningful structure for plot-based creative and creative program development.

  • The present writers have raised some basic questions related to writing. Do the theses produced in the library and information science field tell our story\ulcorner Are they field-oriented\ulcorner Are they easy to be read and to be a n.0, pplied by the librarians\ulcorner Problems in writing include research theme, research method and writing style. The present writers have a n.0, pplied phenomenological a n.0, pproach to these problems, using the observation of 'Co-workers Team' and interpretation of the 'Term Paper Collection'(vol.1-vol.5). Co-workers Team members consist of professors and graduate students in the Department of Library, Archives and Information Studies of the Pusan National University. We have made some proposals in this paper: First, we should not talk about American story. We should talk about our own story, and go back to basic themes. This proposal is related to the innovation of research theme. Second, qualitative research method should be introduced extensively in library and information science. Third, the strict 'thesis-oriented' and 'text-oriented' writing style should be overcome. The prevalent writing style in our field is so uniform that they are not capable of describing the intricate problems like "our living library".ary".uot;.

  • As the number of high-rise buildings increases, a mid-story isolation system has been proposed for high-rise buildings. Due to structural problems, an appropriate isolation layer displacement is required for an isolation system. In this study, the mid-story isolation system was designed and the seismic response of the structure was investigated by varying the yield strength and the horizontal stiffness of the seismic isolation system. To do this, a model with an isolation layer at the bottom of $15^{th}$ floor of a 20-story building was used as an example structure. Kobe(1995) and Nihonkai-Chubu(1983) earthquake are used as earthquake excitations. The yield strength and the horizontal stiffness of the seismic isolation system were varied to determine the seismic displacement and the story drift ratio of the structure. Based on the analytical results, as the yield strength and horizontal stiffness increase, the displacement of the isolation layer decreases. The story drift ratio decreases and then increases. The displacement of the isolation layer and the story drift ratio are inversely proportional. Increasing the displacement of the isolation layer to reduce the story drift ratio can cause the structure to become unstable. Therefore, an engineer should choose the appropriate yield strength and horizontal stiffness in consideration of the safety and efficiency of the structure when a mid-story isolation system for a high-rise building is designed.

  • Under the environment of various network and multimedia, various theories are studied to make utilize digital story telling authoring. In the era of digital convergence and ubiquitous information, they want to send information with additional emotional information which is preferred constructive sending method. Digital storytelling refers to a unified technology for narrative structure with the picture and act. If engraft with particular research field, It will make interactive or linear story structure. These structures have problems that they are mismanaging on the result and they are not integrated systemization in each society. Because those are designing storytelling without development process and they are focusing on web distribution. This thesis is design using the object-oriented methodology of component-based design methodology, This thesis create digital storytelling and design metadata for contents management. In the requirement phase, subject and predicate part are extracted from the narrative structure of the story and restructure an organization. We explain by giving specific examples "kongjwi and patjwi" story as a case study.

  • A seismic isolation system is one of the most effective control devices used for mitigating the structural responses due to earthquake loads. This system is generally used as a type of base isolation system for low- and mid-rise building structures. If the base isolation technique is applied to high-rise buildings, a lot of problems may be induced such as the movement of isolation bearings during severe wind loads, the stability problem of bearings under large compression forces. Therefore, a mid-story isolation system was proposed for seismic protection of high-rise buildings. Residence-commerce complex buildings in Korea have vertical irregularity because shear wall type and frame type structures are vertically connected. This problem can be also solved by the mid-story isolation system. An effective analytical method using super elements and substructures was proposed in this study. This method was used to investigate control performance of mid-story isolation system for residence-commerce complex buildings subjected to seismic loads. Based on numerical analyses, it was shown that the mid-story isolation system can effectively reduce seismic responses of residence-commerce complex tall buildings.
