A Study on the Application of RFID to Container Terminals

  • The container terminals in Korea usually adopts both the bar code and the image recognition systems at the gate complex to capture necessary information on containers passing through the gate. With the rapid advancement of Information Technology(IT) these systems, however, seem to make the user not satisfied due to the inherent limitations such as the long process time taken, low rate of recognition etc., This paper, therefore, examines the adoption of Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology to container terminals, and tried to get some implication for the way to improve the productivity of the terminal. The results imply that some improvement in the gate and storage yard operation is feasible by the benefit of using the information of vehicles and containers collected in advance by RFID technology.

  • The aims of the demand response market are stabilization of the power supply and improving of the reliability of the power system. The various applications of the energy storage system (ESS) in the railway systems are studied and implemented to raise the energy efficiency. It is one of the most important how to determine the obligation reduction capacity (ORC) in participation to the demand response market because it has an influence on the profit extremely. In this paper, when participating to the demand response market with demands in the urban railway, we calculated the available ORC and economically evaluated ESS based on the real load data.

  • This paper proposes a method for storing graphs and defining graph algorithms based on the well-developed relational database. In this method, graphs are represented in the form of relations. Each vertex and edge of a graph is represented as tuples of the table and saved in a database. We developed a library of graph operations for the storage and management of graphs and the development of graph applications. Furthermore, we defined graph algorithms in terms of relational algebraic operations such as projection, selection, and join. They can be implemented with the database language such as SQL. This database approach provides an efficient methodology to deal with very large-scale graphs and to support the development of graph applications.

  • The application field of supercomputing systems are changing to support into the field for both a large-volume data processing and high-performance computing at the same time such as bio-applications. These applications require high-performance distributed file system for storage management and efficient high-speed processing of large amounts of data that occurs. In this paper, we introduce MAHA-FS for supercomputing systems for processing large amounts of data and high-performance computing, providing excellent metadata operation performance and IO performance. It is shown through performance analysis that MAHA-FS provides excellent performance in terms of the metadata processing and random IO processing.

  • This paper describes the operational analysis results of a DC micro-grid using a detailed model of distributed generation. A detailed model of wind power generation, photo-voltaic generation and fuel cell generation was implemented with an userdefined model created with PSCAD/EMTDC software and coded in C-language. The operational analysis was carried out using PSCAD/EMTDC software, in which the power circuit is implemented by a built-in model and the controller is modeled by an user-defined model that is also coded in C-language. Various simulation results confirm that a DC micro-grid can operate without any problems in both the grid-tied mode and in the islanded mode. The operational analysis results confirm that the DC micro-grid makes it feasible to provide power to the load stably. It can also be utilized to develop an actual system design.

  • The DLS(Data Link System) is located in the PDTS(Payload Data Transmission Subsystem) of KOMPSAT-II, and its main function is to provide communication link with Ground Segment as a space segment. DLS receive the data of MSC, OBC from DCSU(Data Compression Storage Unit) and transmit to the Ground Station by X-Band RF link. DLS is consist of CCU(Channel Coding Unit), QTX(QPSK Transmitter, ASU(Antenna Switch Unit) CCU makes a packet for communication after several kind of data processing such like Ciphering, RS Coding. QTX transmit PDTS data by OQPSK. Modulation. ASU is the unit for reliability of antenna switching. So, DLS's function is consists of ciphering, RS coding, CCSDS packetizing, randomizing, modulation and switching to antenna. These DLS's functions are controlled by PMU(Payload Management Unit). All commands to DLS are sent by PMU and all telemetries of DLS are sent to the PMU. The PMU receives commands from OBC and sends telemetries to the OBC. The OBC communicates with Ground Station by S-Band RF link. This paper presents the on-orbit DLS operation concept through the ground segment.

  • Recently, there are many researches on security to remove vulnerability which is caused by wireless communication in wireless sensor networks. To guarantee secure communication, we should basically provide key management for each node, mutual authentication and key agreement protocol between two nodes. Although many protocols are presented to supply these security services, some of them require plentiful storage memory, powerful computation and communication capacity. In this paper, we propose a lightweight and efficient authentication and key agreement protocol between two sensor nodes, which is an enhanced version of Juang's scheme. In Juang's protocol, sensor node's information used to share a secret key should be transmitted to registration center via a base station. On the contrary, since node's information in our protocol is transmitted up to only base station, the proposed scheme can decrease computation and communication cost for establishing the shared key between two nodes.

  • 계속적으로 변화하는 방대한 양의 EMS 데이터를 실시간 취득하여, 사용자가 원하는 데이터만 추출해서 원하는 포맷으로 저장하여 추후 활용할 수 있는 HDMS 시스템에 대하여 소개한다. HDMS 시스템은 K-EMS 과제의 일부분으로 개발되었다. 공유메모리를 사용하여 데이터를 처리하는 실시간 DBMS로부터 추출된 대용량 데이터를 고속으로 디스크 DBMS로 입력하고, 데이터 손실에 대한 Risk를 감소시키기 위하여 동적인 파티션 추가삭제를 통하여 자동으로 분산저장하며, 자동 백업 기능을 제공하여 사용자의 편의성을 증진한다. 데이터를 장기간 보관하고, 보관된 데이터에 대한 데이터 검색 기능을 제공하기 위하여 백업과 관련된 메타데이터를 관리한다. 관리된 메타데이터를 이용하여 사용자의 요구에 의해 백업파일을 시스템에 자동으로 복구하여 온라인 보관주기가 경과한 데이터에 대해 조회가 가능하도록 한다. HDMS시스템은 CIM 기반으로 데이터베이스가 구축되어 향후 K-EMS 외의 타 시스템과의 데이터 통합 및 연계가 용이하고 여러 분야에서 데이터 재활용이 가능할 것으로 예상된다.

A Garbage Collection Method for Flash Memory Based on Block-level Buffer Management Policy

  • Flash memory has become the most important storage media in mobile devices along with its attractive features such as low power consumption, small size, light weight, and shock resistance. However, a flash memory can not be written before erased because of its erase-before-write characteristic, which lead to some garbage collection when there is not enough space to use. In this paper, we propose a novel garbage collection scheme, called block-level buffer garbage collection. When it is need to do merge operation during garbage collection, the proposed scheme does not merge the data block and corresponding log block but also search the block-level buffer to find the corresponding block which will be written to flash memory in the next future, and then decide whether merge it in advance or not. Our experimental results show that the proposed technique improves the flash performance up to 4.6% by reducing the unnecessary block erase numbers and page copy numbers.

  • In information storage and retrieval system, controlled vocabularies are generally used to improve the recall ratio and to guide for indexers/users to select correct indexing/searching terms by regulating their forms as well as meanings. Thesaurs, a type of controlled vocabulary, nowdays accept ed by most of database producers. The objective of this study is to develope a method of Korean Language Thesaurus construction. This study covers 1) the definition of thesaurus, 2) a literatural survey on term relations and thesaurus construction method, 3) a suggestion for a practical construction method, 4) the display format of thesuari, and 5) tests and the results.
