We investigated tree composition, stand characteristics, biomass allocation pattern and carbon storage variability in Sal forests (Shorea robusta Garten.) under two forest management regimes (Sal forest and Sal plantation) in Tripura, Northeast India. The results revealed higher species richness (29 species), stand density of $1060.00{\pm}11.12stems\;ha^{-1}$ and diversity index ($1.90{\pm}0.08$) in Sal forest. and lower species richness (4 species), stand density of $ 230.00{\pm}37.22stems\;ha^{-1}$ and diversity index ($0.38{\pm}0.15$) in Sal plantation. The total basal cover $33.02{\pm}4.87m^2ha^{-1}$) and dominance ($0.76{\pm}0.08$) were found higher in Sal plantation than the Sal forest ($22.53{\pm}0.38m^2ha^{-1}$ and $0.23{\pm}0.02$ respectively). The total vegetation carbon density was recorded higher in Sal plantation ($219.68{\pm}19.65Mg\;ha^{-1}$) than the Sal forest ($167.64{\pm}16.73Mg\;ha^{-1}$). The carbon density estimates acquired in this study suggest that Sal plantation in Tripura has the potentiality to store a large amount of atmospheric carbon inspite of a very low species diversity. However, Sal forests has also an impending sink of carbon due to presence of large number of young trees.
This study was intended to analyze the average abatement cost (AAC) of forest carbon offset projects to suggest a basic credit price for government purchase of forest carbon credits. For this purpose, an a/reforestation project and a forest management project were designed with 30 years of project period. It is assumed to plant pine trees (Pinus densiflora) for the a/reforestation project, while it is assumed to replace rigida pine trees(Pinus rigida) with oak trees (Quercus acutissima) for the forest management project. For each project, the forest carbon stock was calculated and the revenue and the cost were analyzed with standardized management activities. Korea Forest Service has supported private forest owners the cost of management activities and the consulting fee for designing carbon offset project. Therefore, the AAC were analyzed for two cases : the one with subsidy for consulting fee (case 1) and the other with subsidy for both consulting fee and management costs (case 2). In addition, the sensitiveness of AAC was analyzed according to the 4 credit prices : ₩5,000, ₩10,000, ₩15,000 and ₩20,000. The result showed that the AAC analyzed for the case 1 was so high that net revenue would not be expected from all project types with any credit price. However the AAC analyzed for the case 2 was relatively lower than the AAC of case 1. Net revenue was expected from a/reforestation project with credit price over ₩10,000, while from forest management project with credit price over ₩15,000. Based on the AAC analyzed in this study, ₩15,000 was suggested as the basic price for government purchase of forest carbon credit.

The aggregate gradation analysis is a study that evaluates the accuracy of a specific purpose for the aggregate gradation analysis results essential for construction-related major education. This study is to evaluate the effect of aggregate moisture content on aggregate gradation analysis. The change in the moisture content of the aggregate stored in the asphalt plant cold bin and stock piles was monitored for one year, and based on the results, a sample of aggregate with different moisture content was produced. The gradation curve for each aggregate sample was analyzed to evaluate the effect of aggregate moisture content on aggregate gradation analysis. As a result of the gradation evaluation, it was confirmed that as the moisture content increased, the particle size error for particles less than 5 mm increased in the gradation analysis of the oven-dried aggregate, and this error increased as the particle size decreased. In addition, for aggregate particles of 5 mm or more, it was confirmed that the error in gradation analysis rapidly decreased due to the increase in the moisture content. An analysis was performed on the effect of the error in gradation analysis on the management of hot-bin aggregates in asphalt plants. As a result of the analysis, it was found that the minimum aggregate size of the first hot-bin in a general asphalt plant was 2.38 mm or more, so the maximum gradation error due to the non oven-dry aggregate was less than 2%. Therefore, it seems possible to use the results of the gradation analysis of cold bin non oven-dry aggregate for quality management of asphalt mixture production.

This paper deals with a coal supply planning problem for power plants. We propose a mathematical optimization model to make decisions for coal pile sections, movement of reclaimers, and operation time of conveyor belts. The objective of the proposed model is to minimize the total operation time of conveyor belts and total movement time of reclaimers. The algorithm firstly selects a pile section by considering both the location of reclaimers and the stock amount on that pile section. And then the shortest path from the selected pile section has to be put into the operation schedule and check whether the total operation time is satisfied. Then finally the new schedule is updated. To this end, we have tested the proposed algorithm comparing with the general standard optimization package for the simplified problem SCSPP. From the numerous test runs for comparing with the existing coal supply scheduling methods, We see that the proposed model may improve the coal supply operation by reducing significant coal supply costs.
Quantitative information on biomass and available nutrients are essential for developing sustainable forest management strategies to regulate atmospheric carbon. An attempt was made at Chilapatta Reserve Forest in Duars region of West Bengal to quantify its above and below ground carbon along with available "N", "P" and "K" in the soil. Stratified random nested quadrats were marked for soil, biomass and litter sampling. Indirect or non-destructive procedures were employed for biomass estimation. The amount of these available nutrients and organic carbon quantified in soil indicates that the forest soil is high in organic carbon and available "K" and medium in phosphorus and nitrogen. The biomass, soil carbon and total carbon (soil C+C in plant biomass) in the forest was 1,995.98, 75.83 and $973.65Mg\;ha^{-1}$. More than 90% of the carbon accumulated in the forest was contributed by the trees. The annual litter production of the forest was $5.37Mg\;ha^{-1}$. Carbon accumulation is intricately linked with site quality factors. The estimated biomass of $1,995.98Mg{\cdot}ha^{-1}$ clearly indicates this. The site quality factor i.e. tropical moist deciduous with optimum availability of soil nutrients, heavy precipitation, high mean monthly relative humidity and optimum temperature range supported luxuriant growth which was realized as higher biomass accumulation and hence higher carbon accumulated.

Today's size of production operations in the packaging paper sector I sconstantly increasing , featuring integral processing systems, high-speed paper machines, and the increased marketing of lower basis weight products. The risk factors involved in these large investments lie more than ever in the available furnish potential and ongoing requirements for further closure of water loops and lower operating costs. A comparison is drawn between recovered paper furnish mixtures used in European mills with regard to fibre properties, strength potential and contaminant content, Both the furnish situation and development trends in modern fluting and testliner machines are instigating concept changes in stock preparation, the approach flow as well as in process water and rejects technology. Developments are currently focussed for example on more efficient debris separation using fine slotted screening, optimized refining , more systematic process water management with loop separation and integral water clarification as well as more efficient removal of microstickies, fillers and fines through appropriate combination of rejects handling and water clarification processes. Product quality differentiation depends decisively on strength characteristics as a function of refining , fines removal , paper machine technology, and sizing . Maximum availability of today's high speed paper machines and , as a result, cost effective production can be ensured by optimum balancing of all subsystems with in the overall concept and by reliable control of problems with contaminants and deposits.

This research was conducted to determine the influence of physiological and chemical properties of root substrates on the growth of the daughter plants of 'Maehyang' strawberry produced by bag culture. The daughter plants produced by stock plants during bag culture were individually separated and grown in 10-cm diameter plastic pots containing six different formulations of root substrates: a) 50% peatmoss plus 50% vermiculite (5:5 by volume, A), b) 70% peatmoss plus 30% perlite (7:3, B), c) 70% coir dust plus 30% perlite (7:3, C), d) mixture of 35% coir dust, 35% peatmoss, and 30% perlite (3.5:3.5:3.0, D), e) mixture of 20% rice hull, 70% coir dust, and 10% perlite (2:7:1, E), and f) 30% rice hull plus 70% coir dust (30:70, F). The container capacity and air filled porosity of the growing medium varied greatly among the six substrate formulations evaluated. The substrates E and F had less container capacity and higher air-holding spaces than the rest of the formulations. Therefore, these two formulations (E and F) may cause a problem in water management during the production of healthy daughter plants. The substrate formulations A, B, and D retained higher nitrogen (N) concentrations than other formulations containing coir dust or rice hull. The substrate formulations E and F which contained rice hull had lower N, phosphorus (P), and potassium(K) concentrations than other substrate formulations containing coir. The quality of the daughter plants grown in all six different substrate formulations was good with the crown diameters at around 10 mm. Fresh weights of the daughter plants grown in substrate formulations A, C, and D were higher than those obtained from B, E, and F. Dry weights of the daughter plants showed a similar trend. The daughter plants having high fresh and dry weights and increased crown diameter are in demand by the industry. For this reason, the substrate formulations A, C and D can readily be used as potting mixes during the production of 'Maehyang' strawberry transplants utilizing the bag culture system.

Use of recycled fibers in papermaking has been increased for economical and environmental reasons. Recycled panels are major liber resources for brown grades and newsprints. Since the recycled fibers have disadvantageous properties as raw materials for papermaking it is of great importance to optimize the use of these recycled fibers. OCC (Old Corrugated Containers) is the major fiber source for linerboards and corrugating mediums that require diverse specification in strength properties. Many studies have been focused to overcome the problems of strength reduction of brown grades when recycled fibers are used as raw materials. The problem of strength loss for papers made from recycled fibers is closely associated with the increased amount of fines in recycled fibers and hornification of fibers. Fines contained in the recycled fiber resources cause problems not only in paper properties but also in process runnability. This shows that the optimal management and proper use of fines in recycling papermaking system are critical to get most benefits of using recycled fibers. In this study some approaches for optimal use of fiber fines in recycled paper mill have been investigated. Stock samples, prepared in the laboratory and obtained from a recycling plant were used. Fractionation of these samples was made using Sweco screen. And the effect of the addition of polyelectrolytes including cationic PAM and PEI on drainage and retention was evaluated. Different methods of polymer addition were compared to find the most effective ways of treating recycled fiber stocks with polyelectrolytes. Addition of polyelectrolytes to the short fiber fraction was most effective in retention and drainage. The influence of the charge and molecular weight of these two polymers has been examined and discussed.
This study was carried out in the teaching and research forest of the University of Dschang in Belabo, with the aim of analysing land-cover and land-use changes as well as carbon stocks dynamic. The databases used are composed of three Landsat satellite images (5TM of 1984, 7ETM + of 2000 and 8OLI of 2016), enhanced by field missions. Satellite images were processed using ENVI and ArcGIS software. Interview, focus group discussion methods and participatory mapping were used to identify the activities carried out by the local population. An inventory design consisting of four transects was used to measure dendrometric parameters and to identify land-use types. An estimation of carbon stocks in aboveground and underground woody biomass was made using allometric models based on non-destructive method. Dynamic of land-cover showed that the average annual rate of deforestation is 0.48%. The main activities at the base of this change are agriculture, house built-up and logging. Seven types of land-use were identified; adult secondary forests (64.10%), young secondary forests (7.54%), wetlands (7.39%), fallows (3.63%), savannahs (9.59%), cocoa farms (4.28%) and mixed crop farms (3.47%). Adult secondary forests had the highest amount of carbon ($250.75\;t\;C\;ha^{-1}$). This value has decreased by more than 60% for mixed crop farms ($94.67\;t\;C\;ha^{-1}$), showing the impact of agricultural activities on both forest cover and carbon stocks. Agroforestry systems that allow conservation and introduction of woody species should be encouraged as part of a participatory management strategy of this forest.
The amount of swine wastewater reaches about $197,000m^3$ per day at live-stock houses in the whole country. A half of the swine wastewater resources are too small to be restricted legally. This untreated wastewater causes the eutrophication in the water bodies. In case of swine wastewater treatment, the solid-liquid separation must be performed because feces(solid phase) and urine(liquid phase) have large differences in nitrogen and phosphorus concentration. It is necessary to assess exactly the concentration of the pollutants in swine wastewater for planning the wastewater treatment facilities. A full-scale operation was carried out in K city and the plant is consists of conventional plant, the supplementary flocculation basin of chemical treatment process and $anaerobic{\cdot}aerobic$ basin for nitrogen removal. The improved full-scale swine wastewater treatment plant removed the $1,500{\sim}3,000mg/l$ of total-nitrogen(T-N) to 120mg/l of T-N and $131{\sim}156mg/l$ of total-phosphorus(T-P) to $0.15{\sim}1.00mg/l$ of T-N. Accordingly, as a results of operational improvement, the removal efficiencies of T-N and T-P were over $92{\sim}96%$, 99%, respectively. The continuous supply of organic carbon sources and the state of pH played important roles for the harmonious metabolism in anaerobic basin and the pH value of anaerobic basin maintained at about 9.0 for the period of the study.
