The 610 m high Canton Tower (formerly named Guangzhou New Television Tower) is currently considered as a benchmark problem for structural health monitoring (SHM) of high-rise slender structures. In the benchmark study task I, a set of 24-hour ambient vibration measurement data has been available for the output-only system identification study. In this paper, the vector autoregressive models (ARV) method is adopted in the operational modal analysis (OMA) for this TV tower. The identified natural frequencies, damping ratios and mode shapes are presented and compared with the available results from some other research groups which used different methods, e.g., the data-driven stochastic subspace identification (SSI-DATA) method, the enhanced frequency domain decomposition (EFDD) algorithm, and an improved modal identification method based on NExT-ERA technique. Furthermore, the environmental effects on the estimated modal parameters are also discussed.
In order to evaluate the exposure to the radiologic technologists from patients who had been administrated with radiopharmaceuticals, we measured the spatial dose rates at 5 cm, 50 cm, and 100 cm from skin surface of patients using an proportional digital surveymeter, both 5 min after injection and right before the studies. In results, the exposure to the technologists in each procedure was small, compared nth the dose limits of the medical workers. However, the dose-response relationships in cancer and hereditary effects, referred to as the stochastic effects, have been assumed linear and no threshold models ; therefore, the exposure should be minimized. For this purpose, the measurements of spatial dose rate distributions were thought to be useful.

Nuclear power plant structures amy be exposed to aggressive environmental effects that may cause their strength and stiffness to decrease over their service lives. Although the physics of these damage mechanisms are reasonably well understood and quantitative evaluation of their effects on time-dependent structural behavior is possible in some instances, such evaluations are generally very difficult and remain novel. The final goal of this study is to develop the reliability analysis of RC containment structures. The cause of the degrading is first clarified and the reliability assessment has been conducted. By introducing stochastic analysis based on random vibration theory, the reliability analysis which can determine the failure probabilities has been established.
We reported that hot electron phenomena in submicron nMOSFET by Monte Carlo method. In order to predict the influence of the hot electron effects on the device reliability, either simple analytical model or a complete two dimensional numerical simulation has been adopted. Results of numerical simulation, based on the static mobility model, may be inaccurate when gate length of MOSFET is scaled down to less than 1um. Most of device simulation packages utilize the static nobility model. Monte Carlo method based on stochastic analysis of carrier movement may be a powerful tool to characterize hot electrons. In this work, energy and velocity distribution of carriers were obtained to predict the relative degree of short channel effects for different device parameters. Our analysis shows a few interesting results when $V_{ds}$ is 5 volt, average electron energy does not increase with gate bias as evidenced by substrate current.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between psychological characteristics(needs, self-consciousness, self-esteem), attitude toward appearance and clothing attitude of high school students. Method of posing a questionnaire was adopted to obtain stochastic data required for pertinent analysis. This is the investigation of which 489(male 236, female 253) high school students located in Chungnam and Jeollabukdo province. In this statistical analysis, SPSS 10.0 for Windows Program was utilized to calculate percentage, mean and standard deviation Also, these materials were verified by factor analysis, t-test, multiple regression analysis. The results of this research were as follows: The results of analysing the factors to the response attitude toward appearance emerged three factors(conformity value needs toward appearance). Gender had the significant effects on the psychological characteristics, attitude toward appearance and clothing attitude of high school students. Psychological characteristics, attitude toward appearance of high school students had an effects on clothing attitude, i.e. gender attractiveness, fashion pursuit, self-expression aesthetic, and modesty.
Interplanetary scintillation is the fluctuation produced in the apparent brightness of a radio source, due to refractive effects in the apparent brightness of a radio source, due to refractive effects in the turbulent solar wind flowing from the sun. If this medium is illuminated coherently, analysis of the spatial and temporal properties of the radiation reaching the earth allows the stochastic properties of the medium to be understood. Here, a brief review of method of interplanetary scintillation to study solar wind behavior will be introduced.

Reactor dynamics were studied by reactor noise at TRIGA MARK Il reactor whose rated power is 250KW thermal. The power spectral densities(PSD) of the noise were measured by stochastic method with high resolution digital filters and Fast Fourier Transformers. The transfer function of the reactor at zero power was identical to the theoretical characteristics. When the power was increasec above 1KW, reactor showed its poswer resonances at 3Hz and 10 Hz. It was analyzed that 3Hz peak was generated by heat transfer and coolant flow effects and 10Hz peak by nuclear reaction effects.

This paper deals with the fault detection problem in uncertain linear/non-linear systems having both undermodelling and noise. A robust fault detection method is presented which accounts for the effects of noise, model mismatch and nonlinearities. The basic idea is to embed the unmodelled dynamics in a stochastic process and to use the nominal model with a predetermined fixed denominator. This allows the input /output relationship to be represented as a linear function of the system parameters and also facilitate the quatification of the effect of noise, model mismatch and linearization errors on parameter estimation by the Bayesian method. Comparisons are made via simulations with traditional fault detection methods which do not account for model mismatch or linearization errors. The new method suggested in this paper is shown to have a marked improvement over traditional methods on a number of simulations, which is a consequence of the fact that the new method explicitly for the effects of undermodelling and linearization errors.

Based on the random-vibration-theory methodology, dynamic responses of nuclear facilities subjected to obliquely incidental and incoherent earthquake ground motions are calculated. The spectral power density functions of the 6-degree-of-freedom motions of a rigid foundation due to the incoherent ground motions are obtained with the local wave scattering and wave passage effects taken into consideration. The spectral power density function for the pseudo-acceleration of equipment installed on a structural floor is derived. The spectral acceleration of the equipment or the in-structure response spectrum is then estimated using the peak factors of random vibration. The approach is applied to nuclear power plant structures installed on half-spaces, and the reduction of high-frequency earthquake responses due to obliquely incident incoherent earthquake ground motions is examined. The influences of local wave scattering and wave passage effects are investigated for three half-spaces with different shear-wave velocities. When the shear-wave velocity is sufficiently large like hard rock, the local wave scattering significantly affects the reduction of the earthquake responses. In the cases of rock or soft rock, the earthquake responses of structures are further affected by the incident angles of seismic waves or the wave passage effects.
The paper presents a study on the effects of soil-structure-interaction (SSI) on the performance of the compliant liquid column damper (CLCD) for the seismic vibration control of short period structures. The frequency-domain formulation for the input-output relation of a flexible-base structure with CLCD has been derived. The superstructure has been modeled as a linear, single degreeof-freedom (SDOF) system. The foundation has been considered to be attached to the underlying soil medium through linear springs and viscous dashpots, the properties of which have been represented by complex valued impedance functions. By using a standard equivalent linearization technique, the nonlinear orifice damping of the CLCD has been replaced by equivalent linear viscous damping. A numerical stochastic study has been carried out to study the functioning of the CLCD for varying degrees of SSI. Comparison of the damper performance when it is tuned to the fixed-base structural frequency and when tuned to the flexible-base structural frequency has been made. The effects of SSI on the optimal value of the orifice damping coefficient of the damper has also been studied. A more convenient approach for designing the damper while considering SSI, by using an established model of a replacement oscillator for the structure-soil system has also been presented. Finally, a simulation study, using a recorded accelerogram, has been carried out on the CLCD performance for the flexible-base structure.
