혼합탱크 내의 임펠라 형태에 따른 유동 특성에 관한 수치해석 (Numerical Study on Flow Patterns in a Stirred Tank with Impeller Types)

  • The present study is concerned with the flow patterns induced by various impellers in a rectangular tank. Impellers are FBT (Flat blade turbine), PBT (Pitched blade turbine), Shroud turbine, Rushton turbine, and Helical ribbon turbine types. The solutions of flows in moving reference frames require the use of 'moving' cell zone. The moving zone approaches are based on MRF (Multiple reference frame), which is a steady-state approximation and sliding method, which is an unsteady-state approximation. Numerical results using two moving zone approaches we compared with experiments by Ranade & Joshi, which have done extensive LDA measurements of the flow generated by a standard six-bladed Rushton turbine in a cylindrical baffled vessel. In this paper, we simulated the flow patterns with above-mentioned moving zone approaches and impellers. Turbulence model used is RNG $k-{\epsilon}$ model. Sliding-mesh method is more effective than MRF for simulating the rectangular tank with inlet and outlet. RNG $k-{\epsilon}$ model strongly underestimates the velocity of experimental data and velocity by Chen & Kim's model, but it seems to be correctly predicted in overall distribution.

Effect of rheological properties on chemical absorption of carbon dioxide with MEA

  • Rates of chemical absorption of $CO_2$ in water-in-oil (w/o) emulsion were measured in a flat-stirred vessel at $25^{\circ}C$. The w/o emulsion was composed of aqueous monoethanolamine (MEA) droplets as a dispersed phase and non-Newtonian viscoelastic benzene solutions of polybutene (PB) and polyisobutylene (PIB) as a continuous phase. The liquid-side-mass transfer coefficient ($k_L$) was obtained from the dimensionless empirical equation containing Deborah number expressed as the properties of pseudoplasticity of the non-Newtonian liquid. $k_L$ was used to estimate the enhancement factor due to chemical reaction between $CO_2$ and MEA in the aqueous phase. PIB with elastic property of non-Newtonian liquid made the rate of chemical absorption of $CO_2$ accelerate compared with Newtonian liquid.

  • Structure H formation experiments were conducted in a semi-batch stirred vessel using methane as the small guest substance and neohexane(NH), tert-butylmethylether(TBME) and methylcyclohexane(MCH) as the large molecule guest substance (LMGS). The results indicate that the rates of gas uptake and induction times are generally dependent on the magnitude of the driving force. When tert-butyl methyl ether is used as the LMGS rapid hydrate formation, much smaller induct ion time and rapid decomposition can be achieved. Liquid-liquid equilibrium (LLE) data for the above LMGS with water have been measured under atmospheric pressure at 275.5, 283.15K, and 298.15K.   • Carbon dioxide was absorbed into the aqueous nanometer sized colloidal silica solution of 0-31 wt% and 2-amino-2-methyl-1-propanol of $0-2kmol/m^3$ in a flat-stirred vessel with the impeller of various sizes and speeds at $25^{\circ}C$ and 0.101 MPa to measure the absorption rate of $CO_2$. The volumetric liquid-side mass transfer coefficient$(k_La)\;of\;CO_2$ was used to obtain the empirical correlation formula containing the rheological behavior of the aqueous colloidal silica solution. Reduction of the measured $k_La$ was explained by the viscoelastic properties of the aqueous colloidal silica solution. The theoretical value of the absorption rate of $CO_2$ was estimated from the model based on the film theory accompanied by chemical reaction and compared with the measured value.

Direct Purification of Lysozyme from Hen Egg White Using High Density Mixed Mode Adsorbent

  • The high density mixed mode adsorbent known by the trade name of Mimo-AD was used to purify lysozyme directly from the hen egg white (HEW). The homogenized hen egg white was treated with the adsorbent in a stirred vessel for lysozyme adsorption, and then the adsorbent, easily separated from the HEW by sedimentation, was packed into a column. The remaining HEW and contaminant proteins were removed by washing with pH 11 distilled water in an expanded-bed state, and subsequently the elution was performed with pH 12 distilled water in a packed-bed state. By this simple and rapid adsorption, washing, and elution procedure, lysozyme was purified to>95% with an overall recovery yield of 66%. This process offers a great potential for industrial application by allowing the extraction of lysozyme while retaining the commercial value of HEW.

Improved guggulsterone production from sugars, precursors, and morphactin in cell cultures of Commiphora wightii grown in shake flasks and a bioreactor

  • Cell cultures of Commiphora wightii (Arnott.) Bhandari were grown in shake flasks and a bioreactor and an increase in guggulsterone accumulation up to $18{\mu}g\;l^{-1}$ was recorded in cells grown in the production medium containing a combination of sucrose:glucose (4% total), precursors (phenylalanine, pyruvic acid, xylose, and sodium acetate), morphactin, and 2iP. A yield of $10g\;l^{-1}$ biomass and ${\sim}200{\mu}g\;l^{-1}$ guggulsterone was recorded in a 3-l flask and in a 2-l stirred tank bioreactor compared with 6.6 g biomass and $67{\mu}g\;l^{-1}$ guggulsterone in 250-ml flasks. Increased vessel size was correlated with increased biomass and guggulsterone accumulation. 2iP alone was not effective for biomass and guggulsterone accumulation in cell cultures of C. wightii.

Effect of PEO viscoelasticity on carbon dioxide absorption in aqueous PEO solution of AMP

  • Carbon dioxide was absorbed into aqueous polyethylene oxide (PEO) solution containing AMP in a flat-stirred vessel to investigate the effect of non-Newtonian rheological behavior of PEO on the rate of chemical absorption of $CO_2$, where the reaction between $CO_2$ and AMP was assumed to be a first-order reaction with respect to the molar concentration of $CO_2$ and AMP respectively. The liquid-side mass transfer coefficient, which was obtained from the dimensionless empirical equation containing the properties of viscoelasticity of the non-Newtonian liquid, was used to estimate the enhancement factor due to chemical reaction. PEO with elastic property of non-Newtonian liquid made the rate of chemical absorption of $CO_2$ accelerate compared with Newtonian liquid based on the same viscosity of the solution.

  • 교반소요동력은 장치의 설계상 중요할 뿐만 아니라 교반 프로세스를 평가, 검토하는 데 매우 중요하다. 특히 실험실 레벨에서 플랜트로의 스케일업은 주로 동력기준으로 행해지기 때문에 장치형상의 선택과 동력의 설정이 교반효과를 결정한다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 난류역 완전방해판 조건하에서 경사 임펠러 및 2단 패들 임펠러의 적절한 동력상관식을 제시한다. $$Np_{(pitch)}=({\theta}/90^{\circ})Np_{(90^{\circ})}$$ 또한 임펠러 사이의 거리에 따른 동력수의 추산식을 제시한다. $$Np=7.09(n_p)^{0.7}(\frac{b_(double)}{d})(\frac{H}{D})^{0.18}$$, $${n_p}^{0.7}(\frac{b_{(double)}}d)$$<2 $$Np=8.73\{(n_p)^{0.7}(\frac{b_{(double)}}{d})\}^{0.7}(\frac{H}{D})^{0.18}$$, $${n_p}^{0.7}(\frac{b_{(double)}}d)$$>2.

가스 하이드레이트 형성 원리를 이용한 연소전 탈탄소화 연구 (Pre-Combustion Capture of Carbon Dioxide Using Principles of Gas Hydrate Formation)

  • The emission of carbon dioxide from the burning of fossil fuels has been identified as a major contributor to green house emissions and subsequent global warming and climate changes. For these reasons, it is necessary to separate and recover $CO_2$ gas. A new process based on gas hydrate crystallization is proposed for the $CO_2$ separation/recovery of the gas mixture. In this study, gas hydrate from $CO_2/H_2$ gas mixtures was formed in a semi-batch stirred vessel at a constant pressure and temperature. This mixture is of interest to $CO_2$ separation and recovery in Integrated Coal Gasification (IGCC) plants. The impact of tetrahydrofuran (THF) on hydrate formation from the $CO_2/H_2$ was observed. The addition of THF not only reduced the equilibrium formation conditions significantly but also helped ease the formation of hydrates. This study illustrates the concept and provides the basic operations of the separation/recovery of $CO_2$ (pre-combustion capture) from a fuel gas ($CO_2/H_2$) mixture.

  • 본 연구에서는 준 회분식 교반조를 사용하여 polybutene (PB)와 polyisobutylene (PIB)고분자를 용해한 벤젠 용액을 연속상, 물을 불연속상으로 구성한 w/o 에멀션액막에 $CO_2$을 흡수시켜 흡수속도를 측정하였다. 점탄성을 나타내는 Deborah 수를 사용하여 점탄성 비뉴튼액체에서 구한 부피물질전달계수 ($k_La$)를 고찰하고, 수용액에 첨가한 2-amino-2-methyl-1-propanol(AMP)와 $CO_2$의 반응 메카니즘을 해석하였다.
