Purpose: To describle clinical features and enzyme activity of Vietnamese patients with Mucolipidosis type II. Methods: Clinical features, laboratory and plasma lysosom enzyme activity by 4 MU-Fluorometric assay was studied from 2014-2015 at the Northern referral center of Pediatrics - National Children's Hospital. Results: 16 cases (7 girls and 9 boys) were diagnosed with I-cell bases on clinical symptoms and enzyme activities studies. Diagnosis age was $5.93{\pm}4.28$ years, onset age was recognised from birth to 4 years (median 1.25) with the feature of joint stiffness and bone deformation. All cases presented with the feature of joint stiffness, chest deformation and kyphoscoliosis; Fifteen cases (93.7%) had coarse facial features. No patients had hepatosplenomegaly on abdominal ultrasound, 5/15 patients had heart valves disease. Enzyme assay showed ${\alpha}$-Hexosaminidase of $1,885.9{\pm}338.7$ (nmol/mg plasma/17 hrs), ${\alpha}$-Iduronate sulfatase of $4,534.8{\pm}1,062.9nmol/mg$ plasma/4 hrs). Conclusion: Mucolipidosis II seriously affected the life of the patients with skeletal deformities, contractures develop in all joints and cardiac involvement.
Purpose: This study was to evaluate and compare the effectiveness of the Resistance Exercise Program on pain, stiffness, ADL and bone mineral density in Arthritis Patients at home. Methods: Forty-two patients participated in this study and they were divided randomly into two groups (exercise and control group). Two subjects dropped during the study period. The exercise group had a structured training which was 50 minutes in duration, five times per week for a period of 16 weeks and the control group without any scheduled treatment. Data were gathered for 16 weeks (May 21, 2007- September 10, 2007) and were analyzed by using SPSS Win 12.0. Results: The pain, stiffness, ADL, balance and bone mineral density in the exercise group were improved significantly after the Resistance Exercise Program. However, a significant improvement on the above mentioned variables was not observed in the control group.
Objectives : The purpose of this study is to report the effect of live leech(hirudo medicinalis) therapy with oriental medication on the patient with regional rheumatoid arthritis. The patient had resistant to DMARDs so she was in the debilitating condition and suffered from edema, pain, stiffness of joint and purpura before live leech(hirudo medicinalis) therapy. Methods : The regional rheumatoid arthritis patient had edema, pain, stiffness of joint and purpura on right foot. We treated the patient with live leech(hirudo medicinalis) therapy and oriental medicine. Results : The symptoms of regional rheumatoid arthritis was improved through live leech(hirudo medicinalis) therapy and oriental medicine. The patient maintains her condition with oriental medicine treatment after stopped all DMARDs such as MTX(methotrexate) and NSAIDs. After this treatment the patient's walking difficulty has been improved. Conclusions : This study shows that live leech(hirudo medicinalis) therapy and oriental medicine can elevate the regional rheumatoid arthritis patient's quality of life with continuous health care and treatment for major problem. For more accurate studies, further studies would be needed with more cases.
This paper compares the load transfer efficiency between precast concrete pavement specimen and typical concrete pavement specimen by means of laboratory and field tests. An experimental method was developed to evaluate the load transfer efficiency of the dowel bars buried in the concrete pocket and grouted with cement mortar. The test results showed that the load transfer efficiency of the specimen for the dowel bars repaired with grout was equivalent to that of the control specimen. In addition, a series of FWD field tests were conducted on the precast pavement to evaluate the joint stiffness. The field test results revealed that the central deflection of the precast slab slightly increased but the load transfer efficiencies at the joints were almost the same as those in the typical concrete pavement slab.
Column foot in traditional Chinese timber structures may be subjected to be uplifted due to the lateral load and subsequently reset under the vertical loads. The residual moment of the rocking column foot is the most important parameter representing the mechanical behaviors of column foot, and the simplification of joints is the basis of structural analysis of whole structure. The complicated mechanical behaviors of joint and the modeling of the column foot joint has been undertaken historically based on the experiments and numerical simulation. On the condition of limited application range of those models, a lack of simplified model to represent the mechanical behaviors of joint deserves attentions. There is a great need to undertake theoretical studies to derive the residual moment and make better simplified model of the joint. This paper proposes the residual moment and equivalent simplified model of the rotational stiffness for column foot joint. And, the timber frame is established based on the simplified model, which is verified by solid finite element model. Results show that a mutual agreement on the mechanical behaviors of the timber frame is obtained between the simplified model and the solid finite element model. This study can serve as the references of the structural analysis for the traditional timber structures.
This paper presents the results of a study on the effects of pounding at expansion joints of concrete bridges under earthquake ground motions. An engineering approach, rather than continuum mechanics, is emphasized. First, the sensitivity analysis of the gap element stiffness is performed. Second, usefulness of the analysis method for simulation of pounding phenomena is demonstrated. Third, the effects of pounding on the ductility demands measured in terms of the rotation of column ends are investigated. Two-dimensional FE analysis using a bilinear hysterestic model for bridge substructure joints and a nonlinear gap element for the expansion joint is performed on a realistic bridge with an expansion joint. Effects of the primary factors on the ductility demand such as gap sizes and characteristics of earthquake ground motion are investigated through a parametric study. The major conclusions are that pounding effect is generally negligible on the ductility demand for wide practical ranges of gap size and peak ground acceleration, but is potentially significant at the locations of impact.

This method surely needs a hole that causes local strength and stiffness deterioration of the structure because of stress intensity. In this work, three dimensional stress analysis of pin-loaded joint for quasi-isotropic composite laminates was performed using commercial finite element software. Stress distribution was calculated near the edge of the pin-leaded hole and effects of the stacking sequence on the delamination were investigated. Also, the delamination strength of the composite laminates was predicted using the Ye-delamination failure criterion and compared with the experimental results. finally, newly modified failure criterion has been suggested owing to the consideration of effects of interlaminar normal stress on the delamination strength.
In this work, we propose a planar three degree-of-freedom parallel mechanism as another type of assembly device which utilized joint compliances. These joint compliances can be adjusted either by properly replacing the joint compliances or by actively controlling stiffness at joints, in order to generate the desired operational compliance characteristics at RCC point, The operational compliance matrix for this mechanism is explicitly obtained by symbolic manipulation and its operational compliance characteristics are examined, it is found that the RCC point exists at the center of the workspace when the mechanism maintains symmetric configurations. Compliance characteristic and its sensitivity of this mechanism is analyzed with respect to the magnitude of the diagonal compliance components and two different matrix norms measuring compliance sensitivity. It is expected that the analysis results provide the designer with a helpful information to determine a set of optimal parameters of this RCC mechanism.

Dynamic properties such as stiffness and damping of mechanical joints are essential for the accurate prediction of the dynamic behaviors of the system and subsequent improvement of the design. So far several techniques, analytical, experimental, or both have been developed. A technique using condensed F.E.M. model and Experimental Modal Analysis is presented to identify the joint structural parameters. First, modal parameters of structure are measured by certain complex frequency obtained from experiment to match with the order of the Experimental Modal Analysis model. Finally by equating the modal parameters obtained from experiment with those of the condensed system, the unknown joint structural parameters can be identified. A simulation study is conducted to investigate the accuracy of technique. The experiments are performed with ball bearings in a rotor bearing system.
The goal of surgical correction for hallux valgus is to achieve a painless, shoe-wearable, and relatively straight toe with a balanced joint motion that results in aesthetically and functionally satisfactory toe. To date, there has not been a consensus on the ultimate surgical procedure for hallux valgus correction. Unfortunately, such a consensus may be difficult since it is not uncommon to encounter complications after hallux valgus correction. Postoperative soft tissue complications include difficult wound healing, infection, hypertrophy, or pain of the scar, joint stiffness, and tendon or sensory nerve damage. Postoperative bony complications include malunion, nonunion, failure of fixation, failure of angle correction, recurred deformity, osteomyelitis, and failure of balance between the metatarsal heads. Herein, we review common complications after surgical correction of hallux valgus, such as stiff joint, bony complications, recurrence of the deformity, and hallux varus.
