  • In this paper, we are concerned with a 3D line segment extraction method by area-based stereo matching technique. The main idea is based on line fitting of elevation data on 2D line coordinates of ortho-image. Elevation data and ortho-image can be obtained by well-known area-based stereo matching technique. In order to use elevation in line fitting, the elevation itself should be reliable. To measure the reliability of elevation, in this paper, we employ the concept of self-consistency. We test the effectiveness of the proposed method with a quantitative accuracy analysis using synthetic images generated from Avenches data set of Ascona aerial images. Experimental results indicate that our method generates 3D line segments almost 7.5 times more accurate than raw elevations obtained by area-based method.

  • In this paper, we propose the new hardware architecture which implements the stereo matching algorithm using the dynamic programming method. The dynamic programming method is used in finding the corresponding pixels between the left image and the right image. The proposed MOEPE(Merged Odd-Even PE) architecture operates in the systolic manner and finds the disparities from the intensities of the pixels on the epipolar line. The number of PEs used in the MOEPE architecture is the number of the range constraint, which reduced the number of the necessary PEs dramatically compared to the traditional method which uses the PEs with the number of pixels on the epipolar line. For the normal method by 25 times. The proposed architecture is modeled with the VHDL code and simulated by the SYNOPSYS tool.

  • One of the central problems in sereo matching is the selectionof the optimal window sizes for comparing image regions. The window size must be large enough to include enough variation for reliable matching, but small enough to avoid the effect of projection distortion. This paper discusses these problems with some novel algorithm based on iterativediffusion process at different disparity hypotheses. Also this paper proposes four kinds of diffusion algorithms to preseve discontinuity in stereo matching. We present and discuss extensive empirical results of algorithms based on various sets of synthetic and real image.

  • Nowadays the Rational Function Model (RFM), an abstract sensor model, is substituting physical sensor models for highly complicated imaging geometry. But RFM is algorithm to be required many Ground Control Points (GCP). In case of RFM of the third order, At least forty GCP are required far RFM generation. The purpose of this study is to research more efficient algorithm on GCP and accurate algorithm similar to RFM. The Polynomial Camera Model is relatively accurate and requires a little GCP in comparisons of RFM. This paper introduces how to generate Polynomial Camera Model and fundamental algorithms for construction of 3-D topographic data using the Polynomial Camera Model information in the Kompsat stereo pair and describes how to generate the 3-D ground coordinates by manual matching. Finally we tried to extract height information for the whole image area with the stereo matching technique based on the correlation.

  • This paper investigates on the use of advanced optical measurement methods, i.e. 3D coordinate measurement machines (3D CMM) and stereo-vision digital image correlation (3D DIC), for the mechanical analysis of shear deficient prestressed concrete members. Firstly, the experimental program is elaborated. Secondly, the working principle, experimental setup and corresponding accuracy and precision of the considered optical measurement techniques are reported. A novel way to apply synthesised strain sensor patterns for DIC is introduced. Thirdly, the experimental results are reported and an analysis is made of the structural behaviour based on the gathered experimental data. Both techniques yielded useful and complete data in comparison to traditional mechanical measurement techniques and allowed for the assessment of the mechanical behaviour of the reported test specimens. The identified structural behaviour presented in this paper can be used to optimize design procedure for shear-critical structural concrete members.

  • In this paper, We proposed the stereo image modeling using 2-dimensional images captured by the high resolution cameras to inspect the ball defects of BGA(Ball Grid Array) device. The proposed algorithm consists of the package/ball area extraction part, the FOV(Field of View) calibration part, the top point matching part, and ball height measurement part, In the package/ ball area extraction part, the package and ball areas are separately extracted in a left and right image by the extraction algerian. Through the experiment, we draw out the result.

  • Accurate calibration matching for maladjusted stereo cameras with calibrated pixel distance parameter is presented. The camera calibration is a necessary procedure for stereo vision-based depth computation. Intra and extra parameters should be obtain to determine the relation between image and world coordination through experiment. One difficulty is in camera alignment for parallel installation: placing two CCD arrays in a plane. No effective methods for such alignment have been presented before. Some amount of depth error caused from such non-parallel installation of cameras is inevitable. If the pixel distance parameter which is one of Intra parameter is calibrated with known points, such error can be compensated in some amount and showed the variable experiments for accurate effects.

  • This paper presents a Bin-Picking method in which robot recognizes the positions and orientations of jumbled objects placed in a bin, then picks up distinctive objects from the top of the jumble. The jumbled objects are recognized comparing the characteristics extracted from stereo images with those in the CAD data. The 3-D information is obtained using the bipartite-matching method which compares image of one camera with the image of the other camera Then the robot picks up the object which will cause the least amount of disturbance to the jumble, and places it at a predetermined place. This paper contributes to the basic study of Bin-Picking, and can be used in an automatic assembly system without using part sorting or orienting devices.

  • Stereo vision is useful to obtain three dimensional depth information from two images taken from different view points. In this paper, we reduce searching area for correspondence by using the intra-scanline constraint, and utilize the inter-scanline constraint and the property of disparity continuity among the neighboring pixels for relaxation. Nodes with 3-D stucture are located on the axes of two views, and have matching possibility of correspondent pixels of two images. A matching is accepted if a node at the intersection of the disparity axes has the greatest matching possibility. Otherwise, the matching possibility of the node is updated by relaxation with the cooperation of neighboring nodes. Further relaxation with competition of two views is applied to a matching possibility of randomly selected node. The consensus of two views increases the confidence of matching, and removes a blurring phenomenon on the discontinuity of object. This approach has been tested with various types of image such as random dot stereogram and aerial image, and the experimental results show good matching performance.

  • This paper proposes a algorithm that generate the intermediate scene from the stereo image. This system based on mesh representation method, and segmented objects which ar calculated from triangles the pro proposed algorithm is composed of two steps. One is triangle grouping using gestalt theory, and the other is disparity estimation using average disparity of segmented object. We make an experiment on the proposed algorithm with some stereo images and obtain good quality disparity map for intermediate scenes.
