  • This study was carried out to investigate the effects of spatial resolutions on digital image for detecting pine trees damaged by pine wilt disease. Color infrared images taken from PKNU-3 multispectral airborne photographing system with a spatial resolution of 50cm was used as a basic data. Further test images with spatial resolutions of 1m, 2m and 4m were made from the basic data to test the detecting capacity on each spatial resolution. The test was performed with visual interpretation both on mono and stereo modus and compared with field surveying data. It can be conclude that it needs less than 1m spational resolutions or 1m spatial resolutions with stereo pair in order to detect pine trees damaged by pine wilt disease.

  • In this paper, a real-time multiview video coding system using fast disparity estimation is proposed. In the multiview encoder, adaptive disparity-motion estimation (DME) for an effective 3-dimensional (3D) processing are proposed. That is, by adaptively predicting the mutual correlation between stereo images in the key-frame using the proposed algorithm, the bandwidth of stereo input images can be compressed to the level of a conventional 2D image and a predicted image also can be effectively reconstructed using a reference image and adaptive disparity vectors. Also, in multiview decoder, intermediate view reconstruction (IVR) using adaptive disparity search algorithm (DSA) for real-time multiview video processing is proposed. The proposed IVR can reduce a processing time of disparity estimation by selecting adaptively disparity search range. Accordingly, the proposed multiview video coding system is able to increase the efficiency of the coding rate and improve the resolution.

  • Extraction of dept.h information from stereo image uses the matching process between them and this requires a lot of computational time. In this paper, a matching using the feature points on the epipolar line is presented to save the computations. Feature points are obtained in both image and correlated each other. With the coordinates of the matched feature points and camera geometry, the position and depth informations are identified.

  • An experimental method for measuring side-necking deformation near a crack-tip is described. It is based on Stereoscopic Digital Speckle Photography and Digital Image Correlation, and it is simple and robust to mechanical vibration inherent to a hydraulic material test system. The validity and accuracy are evaluated through a calibration fur rigid body translation. A case study has been performed for a CT specimen made of a ductile steel and the three dimensional profiles of the side-necked region are presented as the load increases. Also, the details of the procedure and the surface treatment are discussed.

  • Virtual view synthesis is essential for 3DTV systems, which utilizes the motion parallax cue. In this paper, we propose a multi-step view synthesis algorithm to efficiently reconstruct an arbitrary view from limited number of known views of a 3D scene. We describe an efficient image rectification procedure which guarantees that an interpolation process produce valid views. This rectification method can deal with all possible camera motions. The idea consists of using a polar parameterization of the image around the epipole. Then, to generate intermediate views, we use an efficient dense disparity estimation algorithm considering features of stereo image pairs. Main concepts of the algorithm are based on the region dividing bidirectional pixel matching. The estimated disparities are used to synthesize intermediate view of stereo images. We use computer simulation to show the result of the proposed algorithm.

  • There are lot of noises and errors in depth map image which is gotten by using a stereo camera. These errors are caused by mismatching of the corresponding points which occur in texture-less region of input images of stereo camera or occlusions. In this paper, we use a method which is able to get rid of the noises through post processing and reduce the errors of disparity values which are caused by the mismatching in the texture-less region of input images through the correlation between the depth map images and the input images. Then we propose a novel method which segments the object by using the improved disparity map images and projections.

  • This paper presents a new image rectification method using stereo image pairs to synthesize arbitrary viewing images. The image rectification is a preprocessing procedure that generates a vertically aligned images and makes epipolar lines collinear. The proposed rectification method has more robustness by considering the real situations such as the mismatch of pan angle, tilt angle and vertical shifting of cameras than previous method[5] which considers only pan angle. We evaluate the proposed method by comparison with previous method using synthesized images.

  • A depth adjustment method for visual fatigue reduction for depth-image-based rendering (DIBR) system is proposed. One important aspect of the method is that no calibration parameters are needed for adjustment. By analyzing 3D image warping, the perceived depth is expressed as a function of three adjustable parameters: virtual view number, scale factor and depth value of zero parallax setting (ZPS) plane. Adjusting these three parameters according to the proposed parameter modification algorithm when performing 3D image warping can effectively change the perceived depth of stereo pairs generated in DIBR system. As the depth adjustment is performed in simple 3D image warping equations, the proposed method is facilitative for hardware implementation. Experimental results show that the proposed depth adjustment method provides an improvement in visual comfort of stereo pairs as well as generating comfortable stereoscopic images with different perceived depths that people desire.

  • In a different way of satellite image or aerial photo, the image acquired by terrestrial photogrammetry has to go through complicated management according to the desired precision and analysis range. In this study, digital surface model and ortho image for cultural asset, terrestrial structures, were made by reflectorless total station in order to increase the application of single photo, and that was analyzed and compared with the method using stereo image. Single photo is expected to be utilized as the measuring method for drawing cultural assets or examining the stability of slope in which high precision doesn't need by performing the various geometric and visual analysis using ortho image made by excluding the difficulties of acquisition and plotting of stereo image.

  • A 3D stereoscopic image is generated by interdigitating every scene with video editing tools that are rendered by two cameras' views in 3D modeling tools, like Autodesk MAX(R) and Autodesk MAYA(R). However, the depth of object from a static scene and the continuous stereo effect in the view of transformation, are not represented in a natural method. This is because after choosing the settings of arbitrary angle of convergence and the distance between the modeling and those two cameras, the user needs to render the view from both cameras. So, the user needs a process of controlling the camera's interval and rendering repetitively, which takes too much time. Therefore, in this paper, we will propose the 3D stereoscopic image editing system for solving such problems as well as exposing the system's inherent limitations. We can generate the view of two cameras and can confirm the stereo effect in real-time on 3D modeling tools. Then, we can intuitively determine immersion of 3D stereoscopic image in real-time, by using the 3D stereoscopic image preview function.
