Construction of Response Surface Model for Compression Ignition Engine Using Stepwise Method (Stepwise 방식을 이용한 압축 착화 디젤 엔진의 반응 표면 모델 구축)

  • In recent years, compression ignition engine has been equipped with some control devices such as common rail injection system and turbocharger. In order to control the large number of input parameter appropriately in consideration of $NO_x$, HC and engine power as the engine output objectives. The model construction which reproduces the characteristic value of $NO_x$, HC and engine power from input parameter is needed. In this research, the stepwise method was applied to construct the compression ignition engine model. By using the preliminary experimental data of single cylinder compression ignition engine, the prediction model of $NO_x$, HC and engine power on single injection compression ignition engine was built and compared with the main experimental data.

  • Nowadays, most major automobile manufacturers are very interested, and actively involved, in developing driver alcohol detection system for safety (DADSS) that serves to prevent driving under the influence. DADSS measures the blood alcohol concentration (BAC) from the driver's breath and limits the ignition of the engine of the vehicle if the BAC exceeds the reference value. In this study, to optimize the sensor array of the DADSS, we selected sensors by using three different methods, configured the sensor arrays, and then compared their performance. The Wilks' lambda, stepwise elimination and filter method (using a principal component) were used as the sensor selection methods [2,3]. We compared the performance of the arrays, by using the selectivity and sensitivity as criteria, and Sammon mapping for the analysis of the cluster type of each gas. The sensor array configured by using the stepwise elimination method exhibited the highest sensitivity and selectivity and yielded the best visual result after Sammon mapping.

  • In most tunnel constructions in South Korea, blasting has been widely used as an excavation method. In tunnel blasting, the center-cut to induce first free surface is very important for enhancing excavation efficiency and reducing vibration caused by exploding. This paper introduces new center-cut method named SAV-cut (Stage Advance V-cut) developed on the concept of V-cut. Significant features of SAV-cut are the center hole and stepwise ignition. Many field tests and numerical analysis were carried out to analyze the mechanical behavior and blasting vibration. From the results, the newly developed SAV-cut was proved as an effective center-cut method for both increasing blasting efficiency and decreasing blasting vibration.
