This paper presents a new high step-up dc/dc converter for renewable energy systems in which a high voltage gain is provided by using a coupled inductor. The operation of the proposed converter is based on a charging capacitor with a single power switch in its structure. A passive clamp circuit composed of capacitors and diodes is employed in the proposed converter for lowering the voltage stress on the power switch as well as increasing the voltage gain of the converter. Since the voltage stress is low in the provided topology, a switch with a small ON-state resistance can be used. As a result, the losses are decreased and the efficiency is increased. The operating principle and steady-states analyses are discussed in detail. To confirm the viability and accurate performance of the proposed high step-up dc-dc converter, several simulation and experimental results obtained through PSCAD/EMTDC software and a built prototype are provided.
The electrochemical reaction behavior of nickel electrode of the nickel-cadium battery system in potassium hydroxide solution has been studied by cyclic voltammetry, controlled potential electrolysis and X-ray diffraction method. It has been found that the reaction mechanism of positive nickel electrode for charging was assumed to be proten transfer step with a rate controlling diffusion process and char-ging state of positive electrode was amorphous $\beta$-NiOOH.
A target of this paper is to study on the usefulness of the adaptive piezoelectric energy harvesting device as a wireless electrical power supply when it is driven by mechanical vibrations of low frequency. For this purpose, an adaptive control technique and a step-down converter are used. A THUNDER series a piezoelectric material (TH7-R), which has been developed by a NASA engineer is selected for this study. In order to provide a mechanical energy to the piezoelectric material, a mechanical motion vibrator is designed. The adaptive controller is implemented using a dSPACE DS1104 controller board. The do-dc converter with an adaptive control technique harvests energy at over five times the rate of direct charging without a converter.
In this paper, the paralleled forward converter, that is generally used as the power supply for the low voltage, high current load, is described. The proposed forward converter for battery charging could be provided the power without failure not only in steady state but also in the transient period by the step load variation or the unexpected faults among the converter modules. Each converter nodule designed is operated alone with the self closed controller for the elevation of stability, performance, reliability, and maintainability. The frequency response of the designed converter module is analyzed, and the stability is confirmed in analytic method. And the experiments of the paralleled battery charger are carried out in steady state, in the step load variation.
Maximum power point tracking(MPPT) techniques are used in photovoltaic systems to maximize the PV array output power by tracking continuously the maximum power point which depends on panels temperature and on irradiance conditions. This paper proposes a variable step size MPPT algorithm which can improve the MPPT speed and accuracy. Depending on insolation and temperature, the MPPT controller gives optimized step size. The effectiveness of the proposed system is verified thorough PSIM simulation and experiments on a 50[W] prototype. The experimental results confirm that the PV power of the improved P&O method is higher than that of the traditional P&O method.
Use of the PV(photovoltaic) generation system is increased in such areas as remote mountain places or islands at which electrical energy is not serviced. The stand alone PV system is required the power storage products such as battery, fly wheel and super capacitor. Several lead storage batteries are connected in series to get high voltages. The life of lead storage battery is shortened when over charge or over discharge takes place. So, it is needed to control batteries not to be overcharged or be discharged deeply. Voltage of each battery was ignored in former control methods in which overall voltage was used to control charge or discharge battery. In this study, the charging and discharging voltage variations of sealed lead storage batteries with l2V/l.2A were investigated step by step experiments. The results of the test show that one should consider and specify the state of each battery to prevent overcharge or deep discharge. With the basis of the experiments, we designed a monitoring unit to monitor battery voltages simultaneously using micro-controller. The unit measures voltage of 20 batteries simultaneously and displays data on the color LCD monitor with curved line graph. It also sends data to PC using the RS232C communication port. The designed unit was adapted to stand alone PV system with 1kW capacity and lead storage batteries are connected to the PV generation system. The number of lead storage batteries was 10 in series and 12V/250Ah each. Resistive load with 3kW was used for discharging.
In this study, a step-down piezoelectric transformer was fabricated to utilize as an adapter for charging batteries of mobile electronic appliances. The ceramic part of the transformer is $Pb[(Mn_{1/3}Sb_{2/3})_{_0.05}Zr_{0.475}Ti_{0.475}]O_3$ with mechanical quality factor of 1600, electromechanical coupling coefficient $59\%$, and piezoelectric constant $d_{33}$ 1300, which can be utilized as a piezoelectric transformer. A simply fabricated disk-typed test pattern of diameter 28 mm and thickness 2 mm was used to characterize output voltage, step-down ratio as a function of electrode area with the input remained constant, and power, efficiency as a function of input voltage, and temperature-dependent electric characteristics were evaluated. The sample APT1 showed the best properties. The highest admittance, effective electromechanical coupling coefficient and an appropriate mechanical quality factor were obtained at the sample with the input/output area ratio of 1:1.5 at the common electrode, and the condition of 20 $V_{rms}$, $50\;\Omega$ made the maximum efficiency of $95\%$. The temperature was increased by 14.7'E as the input voltage was increased for $50\;V_{rms},\;50\;\Omega$.
A high-step-up DC/DC converter for renewable energy systems is proposed. The proposed structure provides high voltage gain by using a coupled inductor without the need for high duty cycles and high turn ratios. The voltage gain is increased through capacitor-charging techniques. In the proposed converter, the energy of the leakage inductors of the coupled inductor is reused. This feature reduces the stress on the switch. Therefore, a switch with low ON-state resistance can be used in the proposed converter to reduce losses and increase efficiency. The main switch is placed in series with the source. Therefore, the converter can control the energy flow from the source to the load. The operating principle is discussed in detail, and a steady state analysis of the proposed converter is conducted. The performance of the proposed converter is verified by experimental results.

In this paper we present a Capacitor Charging Power Supply (CCPS) using a series-resonant three-level inverter topology to improve voltage regulation and use semiconductor switches having low blocking voltage capability such as MOSFETs. This inverter can be operated with two modes, Full Power Mode (FPM) and Half Power Mode (HPM). In FPM inverter supplies the high frequency step up transformer with full DC-link voltage and in HPM with half DC-link voltage. HPM switching method will be adopted when CCPS output voltage reaches the preset target value and operates in refresh mode-charge is maintained on the capacitor. In this topology each semiconductor devices blocks a half of the DC-link voltage[2]. A 15kW, 30kV CCPS has been built and will be tested for an electric precipitator application. The CCPS operates from an input voltage of 500VDC and has a variable output voltage between 10 to 30kV and 1kHz repetition rate at 44nF capacitive load [3]. A resonant frequency of 67.9kHz was selected and a voltage regulation of $0.83\%$ has been achieved through the use of half power mode without using the forced cut off the switch current [1]. The theory of operation, circuit topology and test results are given.
In this paper, the risk of electric shock is analyzed through analysis for characterization of potential distribution analysis and ground fault current analysis near the area where there are occurred a ground fault at electric vehicle wireless charging system using 20kHz. Studies for electric vehicle wireless charging system are in the works for development of efficiency increase, pickup shape design and communication module as a fundamental research step. But the research related to electrical safety and is still scarce state so that more studies are necessary to commercialize. As a result of analysis, it is verified that induced voltage is arisen more up to 45V near the a area of accident during ground fault and fault current has been maintained continuously without clearing fault condition by operating characteristics for circuit breaker and inverter.
