To improve the grout penetration characteristics, a vibratory grout injection technique was adopted in this study. It is a technique of grout injection in which an oscillating pressure is added to the steady-state pressure as an injection pressure. By applying the vibration during grout injection, cement particles will become less adhesive and the clogging tendency will be decreased. A series of pilot-scale chamber tests were performed to verify the enhancement of the groutability by applying the vibratory grout injection; assessment on the change of the lumped parameter $\theta$ which represents a barometer of clogging phenomenon was made. Moreover, the effect of vibratory grout injection through the joint was also investigated using artificially made rock joints. Experimental results as well as analytical results show that the grout penetration depth can be substantially improved by vibratory grouting. Moreover, it was found that enhancement of the permeation grouting due to vibratory injection is more dominant at grouting pressure less than 400 kPa.
Utilizing Mechanical Alloy Process, that were obt, ained the results from investigated formation process of AC4A/$SiC_p$. composite material powders and mechanical properties of their extrusion materials. The obtained results are as follow conclusions. AC4A-lOwt.% $SiC_p$ powders which were mechanically alloyed at 150rpm for 420min have been obtained finely and uniformly rounded powder particals that were reached the steady state which was saturated micro hardness about tlv 230 in the range size of 1 0 ~ 2 0$\mu \textrm{m}$. EDAX analysis tests have been resulted in a little amount of I'e conrents increasing with MA times, the artifical aging of AC4A/S$SiC_p$ composite materials was obtained the hardness with solution treated at $525^{\circ}C$ for lOhrs the maximum value of Hv 230 with aging at. $170^{\circ}C$ for 1000min. The Intensity and width of X-ray diffraction pattern were decreasing and widening because of grain boundary refinement and heterogeneous strain during mechanical alloying. Tensile tests at room temperature were carried out the maximum value of 37 Kgf/$\mu \textrm{mm}^2$ with ext, rused materials, 27 Kgf/$\mu \textrm{mm}^2$ with heat treated them at $500^{\circ}C$.

The objective of this study is to develop a high ductile fiber reinforced mortar, ECC(Engineered Cementitious Composite) with using raw material commercially available in Korea. A single fiber pullout test and a wedge splitting test were employed to measure the bond properties in a matrix and the fracture toughness of mortar matrix respectively, which are used for designing mix proportion suitable for achieving strain-hardening behavior at a composite level. Test results showed that the properties tended to increase with decreasing water-cement ratio. A high ductile fiber reinforced mortar has been developed by employing micromechanics-based design procedure. Micromechanical analysis was initially peformed to properly select water-cement ratio, and then basic mixture proportion range was determined based on workability considerations, including desirable fiber dispersion without segregation. Subsequent direct tensile tests were performed on the composites with W/C's of 47.5% and 60% at 28 days that the fiber reinforced mortar exhibited high ductile uniaxial tension property, represented by a maximum strain capacity of 2.2%, which is around 100 times the strain capacity of normal concrete. Also, compressive tests were performed to examine high ductile fiber reinforced mortar under the compression. The test results showed that the measured value of compressive strength was from 26MPa to 34 MPa which comes under the strength of normal concrete at 28 days.
Optimal pumping rate, well efficiency and radius of influence were estimated using field step-drawdown tests. According to the analysis results, optimal pumping rates were estimated as 9.37, 16.20 $m^3/day$ for KDPW 1 and 8.11, 14.10 $m^3/day$ for KDPW 2. The well efficiency was calculated as 72.02~90.73% for KDPW 1 while it was 70.62~88.52% for KDPW 2. In the meanwhile, the steady-state analysis yielded the radius of influence (ROI) of 3.50~31.92 m in case of pumping at KDPW 1 and the ROI of 0.14~37.43 m in case of pumping at KDPW 2. In addition, the transient analysis produced the ROI of 0.02~8.34 m for KDPW 1 pumping and the ROI of 0.24~9.68 m for KDPW 2 pumping. The methodology used in this study can be usefully applied in the pump and treat remediation design for contaminated groundwater.
Foam reduces the mobility of gas phase in porous media to overcome gravity override and to divert acid into desired layers in the petroleum industry and to enhance the efficiency of environmental remediation. Recent experimental studies on foam show that foam exhibits a remarkably different flow rheology depending on the flow regime. This study, for the first time, focuses on the issues of foam diversion process under the conditions relevant to groundwater remediation, combining results from laboratory linear-flow experiments and a simple numerical model with permeability contrasts. Linear flow tests performed at two different permeabilities (k = 9.1 and 30.4 darcy) confirmed that two flow regimes of steady-state strong foams were also observed within the permeability range of shallow geological formations. Foam exhibited a shear-thinning behavior in a low-quality regime and near Newtonian rheology in a high-quality regime. Data taken from linear flow tests were incorporated into a simple numerical model to evaluate the efficiency of foam diversion process in the presence of permeability contrasts. The simple model illustrated that foam in the high-quality regime exhibited a successful diversion but foam in the low-quality regime resulted in anti-diversion, implying that only foam in the high-quality regime would be applicable to the diversion process. Sensitivity study proved that the success of diversion process using foam in the high-quality regime was primarily controlled by the limiting capillary pressures (${P_c}{^*}$) of the two layers of interest. Limitations and implications are also discussed and included.

Retardation effect of heavy metals in soils caused by adsorption onto the surfaces of solids particles is well known phenomena. The adsorption of metal ions has been recognized more strong in clay mineral and organic matter contents rather than sands and gravels. In this study, we investigated the retardation effect in two sandy soils by conducting batch and column tests. The column tests were conducted to obtain the relationship between concentration and time known as breakthrough curve (BTC). We applied pulse type injection of ZnCl$_2$solution on the inlet boundary and monitored the effluent concentration at the exit boundary under steady state condition using EC-meter and ICP-AES. Batch test consisted of an equilibrium procedure for fine fractions collected from two sandy soils for various initial ZnCl$_2$concentrations, and analysis of Zn ions in equilibrated solution using ICP-AES. The results of column test showed that i) the peak concentration of Zn analyzed by ICP was far less than that detected by EC-meter for both soils and ii) travel times for peak concentration were more less identical for two different monitoring techniques. The first result can be explained by ion exchange between Zn and other cations initially present in the soil particles since ICP analysis showed a significant amount of Ca, Mg ions in the effluent. From the second result, we found that retardation effect was not present in these soils due to strong cation exchange capacity of Zn ion over other cations since we did not apply a solution containing more adsorptive cations such as Al. The result of batch test also showed high distribution coefficients (K$_{d}$) for two soils supporting the dominant ion exchange phenomena. Based on the retardation factor obtained from the Kd, we predicted the BTC using CDE model and compared with the BTC of Zn concentration obtained from ICP The predicted BTC, however, disagreed with the monitored in terms of travel time and magnitude of the peak concentrations. The only way to describe the prominent decrease of Zn ion was to introduce decay or sink coefficient in the CDE model to account for irreversible decrease of Zn ions in liquid phase.e.
To determine the shelf-life of low salted Myungran-jeot (low salted and fermented Alaska pollack roe), various chemical, microbiological and sensory analyses were carried out with Myungran-jeot stored at 10 days. The lactic acid content was slowly increased in the early stage of storage but then was rapidly increased with lengthening storage period, while pH was decreased during storage. The $NH_2-N$ content was steady at 10 days and peaked at 17 days. The production of VBN was increased to over $30mg\%$ at 19 days. In microbiological tests, the viable cell count and halotolerant bacteria were $1.5\times10^3\;and\;5.5\times10^3CFU/g$, respectively, at the initial state, but they slowly increased to $10^7 CFU/g$ at 17 days. Yeast or fungi did not appear on the surface of Myungran-jeot. Sensory evaluation showed that the original torture of Myungran-jeot in the mouth was a very important indicator for acceptability. Sensory characters and acceptability of Myungran-jeot at 17 days were not significantly different from those of the initial state. From these results, the estimated shelf-life of Myungran-jeot whom sealed with aluminum coated paper, was about 18 days in this study.

Through the early 1900's, the evolution of the surface condenser was closely tied to the development of steam engine and the turbine. As the chemical and petroleum industries evolved in the 1900's, the use of surface condensers in many different processes. Today, industry uses condensers in many shapes and sizes. The actual condensation process occurs on the outside surface of tubes. The nature of this surface geometry affects the condenser's heat transfer performance. The first condensers were built with plain tubes. As tube manufacturing techniques advanced, manufacturers started making tubes with integral fins. In the 1940's, fin densities were limited to about 600 to 700 fins per meter(fpm) because of manufacturing procedure. Today new manufacturing techniques allow production of tubes with fin densities ranging from 750 to 1600 fpm. The integral-fin tubes investigated in this paper are nominally 19 mm diameter. Eight tubes have been used with trapezodially shaped integral-fins having fin density from 748 to 1654 fpm and 10, 30 grooves. For comparison, tests are made using a plain tube having the same inside diameter and an outside diameter equal to that at the root of the fins for the finned tubes. Betty and Katz's theoretical modelis is used to predict the R-11 condensation coefficient on horizontal integral-fin tubes having 748, 1024 and 1299 fpm. Experiments are carried out using R-11 as working fluid. The refrigerant condensates at a saturation state of $30^{\circ}C$ on the outside tube surface cooled by coolant. The amount of noncondensable gases present in the test loop is reduced to a negligible value by repeated purging. For a given heat input to the boiler and given cooling water flow rate, all test data are taken at steady state. The observed heat transfer enhancement for the finned and grooved tubes significantly exceeded that to be expected on grounds of increased area. For the eight fin tubes and one plain tube tested, the best performance has been obtained with a tube having a fin density of 1299 fpm, and a fin bight of 1.2mm and 30 grooves.

The dependency of criteria used to terminate compatibility tests on the prehydration and quality of bentonite in geosynthetic clay liners (GCLs) is evaluated based on permeation with chemical solutions containing 5, 10, 20, 50, and 100 mM calcium chloride ($CaCl_2$). The hydraulic conductivity tests are not terminated before chemical equilibrium between the effluent and the influent chemistry has been established, resulting in test durations ranging from < 1 day to > 900 days, with longer test durations associated with lower $CaCl_2$ concentrations. The evaluation includes both physical termination criteria (i.e., volumetric flow ratio and steady hydraulic conductivity based on ASTM D 5084, ${\ge}2$ pore volumes of flow, constant thickness of specimen) and chemical termination criteria requiring equilibrium between influent and effluent chemistry (viz., electrical conductivity, pH, and $Ca^{2+}\;and\;Cl^-$ concentrations). For specimens permeated with 5, 10, and 20 mM $CaCl_2$ solutions, only the criterion based on chemical equilibrium in $Ca^{2+}$ concentration correlates well with equilibrium in hydraulic conductivity, regardless of prehydration or quality of bentonite. However, all of the termination criteria, except for the volumetric flow ratio and 2 pore volumes of flow for the prehydrated specimens, correlate well with equilibrium in hydraulic conductivity regardless of prehydration or quality of bentonite when permeated with 50 and 100 mM $CaCl_2$ solutions. The results illustrate the uniqueness of the termination criterion based on solute concentration equilibrium between the effluent and the influent with respect to both prehydration and quality of bentonite in the GCLs.

Most of the conventional breakwaters impermeable breakwaters which block seawater exchange between the outside and inside of the harbors. The blocking of seawater exchange may cause pollution of water in harbors. To solve the water pollution problem, various kinds of seawater exchange breakwaters have been proposed. Their types can be classified into the current type which uses tidal current, and the overtopping type which uses the wave energy. The overtopping type breakwaters require a discharge coefficient to calculate the rate of overtopping into the harbor. The present study is to compute the rate of overtopping with introduction of a correct discharge coefficient and to evaluate the effect of the overtopping type breakwater on the water qualify inside a harbor. The rate of overtopping was computed by using Forchheimer formula with time dependent mild-slope equation for various wave conditions. The formula has been generally used to calculate the overflow discharge in steady state river flows. The discharge coefficient, which is the key parameter of the calculation, was determined by a series of hydraulic model tests. The present scheme was applied to the seawater exchange section of the western breakwater of Jeju New Harbor's and the efficiency of that section was examined. The calculated results showed that the rate of overtopping into the harbor reached about $27.5m^3/s$ in the wave condition (wave height 3.7 m, wave period 8.5s, and wave direction NNW).
