  • A two-dimensional backward facing step flow is simulated by using URANS and Detached Eddy Simulations(DES) approaches. Turbulence models adopted for URANS and DES simulations are Spalart-Allmaras(S-A) model and Shear Stress Transport(SST) model. The target flow with ER=1.125, $Re_H=37,500$ is experimentally studied by Driver & Seegmiller. Various versions of DES have been tested in this paper. Results of the simulations are compared with the experimental data available to evaluate the merits and demerits of URANS and several versions of DES. URANS simulation converges to a steady state and hence unsteady characteristics are not featured. DES simulations in general successfully mimic large scale structures and oscillation characteristics of the flow.

  • In this paper, we examine the steady state dynamic electromechanical behavior of an eccentric Yoffe crack in a piezoelectric ceramic layer bonded between two orthotropic elastic layers under the combined anti-plane mechanical shear and in-plane electrical loadings. We adopted permeable crack face condition. Numerical values on the dynamic energy release rate are obtained. The initial crack propagation orientation for PZT-5H piezoceramic is also predicted by maximum energy release rate criterion.

  • When we urgently need to develop and supply an alternative energy, wind power is growing with much interest because it has relative low cost for generating power and small area for wind turbine. To estimate the wind power resource, it is necessary to make an observation first. Although the large wind farm and resources are near coast and mountain area, the wind energy in urban area has the strong thing of direct access to power generator. In this study, we estimate the probability of wind energy in urban mountain area using A2C (Atmospheric to CFD) model, which is used for horizontally urban scale phenomena. In the steady state results, the site C is most suitable for wind power in the point of the only wind speed. But, estimating the TKE and vertical wind shear, the site B is showing the better results than the site C.

  • The finite element analyses of a composite hingeless rotor blade in forward flight have been performed to investigate the influence of blade design parameters on the blade stability. The blade structure is represented by a single cell composite box-beam and its nonclassical effects such as transverse shear and torsion-related warping are considered. The nonlinear periodic differential equations of motion are obtained by moderate deflection beam theory and finite element method based on Hamilton principle. Aerodynamic forces are calculated using the quasi-steady strip theiry with compressibility and reverse flow effects. The coupling effects between the rotor blade and the fuselage are included in a free flight propulsive trim analysis. Damping values are calculated by using the Floquet transition matrix theory from the linearized equations perturbed at equilibrium position of the blade. The aeroelastic results were compared with an alternative analytic approch, and they showed good correlation with each other. Some parametric investigations for the helicopter design variables, such as pretwist and precone angles are carried out to know the aeroelastic behavior of the rotor.

  • In this paper, the 100 % non-inductive current drive scenarios are addressed for the steady-state operation on KT-2 tokamak, with the profile control using fast wave and lower hybrid wave as the external tools. Considering the stability, the well-aligned current profiles with a reversed-shear and $q_{min}$ > 2.0 has been favor-able in high ${\beta}_{p}$ plasma, together with a possibly higher bootstrap current fraction. Therefore, the effects of the auxiliary heating power profile on the control of MHD favorable current profile are evaluated in detail.

  • In the present work, characteristics of the flow in the cage of a steam turbine bypass control valve for thermal power plant are investigated. Experimental measurement for wall static pressure has been carried out to validate numerical solutions. And, the flowfield is analyzed by solving steady three-dimensional Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes equations. Shear stress transport (SST) model is used as turbulence closure. The effects of the flow area between stages of the cage on the pressure drop are also found.

  • A non-translating, long duration thunderstorm downburst has been simulated experimentally and numerically by modelling a spatially stationary steady flow impinging air jet. Velocity profiles were shown to compare well with an upper-bound of velocity measurements reported for full-scale microbursts. Velocity speed-up over a range of topographic features in simulated downburst flow was also tested with comparisons made to previous work in a similar flow, and also boundary layer wind tunnel experiments. It was found that the amplification measured above the crest of topographic features in simulated downburst flow was up to 35% less than that observed in boundary layer flow for all shapes tested. From the computational standpoint we conclude that the Shear Stress Transport (SST) model performs the best from amongst a range of eddy-viscosity and second moment closures tested for modelling the impinging jet flow.

  • This paper proposes design and implementation of wind turbine simulators which incorporate the turbine dynamic characteristics. At first, the turbine output characteristic in steady state is modelled as a function of wind speed and then dynamic characteristics are modelled such as pitch angle control, torsional vibration, tower shadow effect, wind shear effect, and inertia effect. In addition, a wind speed simulator is developed which can generate the real wind speed pattern. The wind turbine simulator is implemented with 3[kW] M-G set(cage-type induction motor coupled with doubly-fed induction generator) at laboratory.

  • The flow characteristics in a confined slot jet impinging on a flat plate were investigated in low Reynolds number regime (Re$\leq$1,000) by using time-resolved particle image velocimetry technique. The jet Reynolds number was varied from 404 to 1026, where it is presumed that the transient regime exists. It is found that the vortical structures in the shear layer are developed with increasing Reynolds number and that the jet remains steady at the Reynolds number of 404. Vortical structures and their temporal evolution are verified and the results were compared with previous numerical studies.
