  • The medium and long term plan is one of the most important factors for the cooperation between cultural institutions such as archives, libraries and museums. This paper tries to analyze comparatively the development strategies' backgrounds and tasks of the national representative cultural institutions, with their similarities and differences. Limitations of the development strategies caused by their low stature are also presented in the paper. Accordingly this paper put emphasis on the changeover from separate and individual development strategy to joint and collaborative one for the cooperation between cultural institutions.

  • This study analyzed the size of women in their 60s, 70s and 80s in the 2014 Human Body Dimension Survey data among Size Korea's 7th Human Dimension Survey Data in 2015. This study examined the characteristics of changes in female body shape according to aging and the age range. The height item gradually decreased from the 60s and then rapidly decreased to the 80s. In the case of the circumference item, a sharp change occurred in the section from 69 to 70 years old. The reduction in hip height, waist height, and navel level waist height was not significant compared to the decrease in stature. Both width, thickness, and circumference gradually decreased with age. It can be seen that the back bends forward and the legs become thinner than the body due to the aging phenomenon with increasing age. Even for older women, the characteristics of aging differ in their 60s, 70s and 80s, so age segmentation of silver clothing should be considered.

  • KBG syndrome (KBGS) is a multisystem disorder characterized by short stature, distinctive facial features including macrodontia of upper central permanent incisors, and developmental/cognitive delay. It is caused by variants or deletion of Ankyrin Repeat Domain 11 (ANKRD11) located in chromosome 16q24.3. Since its initial report in 1975, KBG syndrome has been recognized as an exceedingly rare disorder. However, recent advancements in genetic diagnostic techniques have led to an increase in both the diagnosis rate and the number of reported cases, contributing to a rapid increase in its global prevalence. We review the clinical aspects of KBGS, including previously reported and newly reported cases, as well as the related genetic patterns discovered so far.

  • Purpose : To study the effects of growth hormone(GH) treatment on glucose metabolism and insulin resistance in children with idiopathic short stature(ISS). Methods : Glucose and insulin concentrations were measured during oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) before and after GH treatment(0.6-0.7 IU/kg/week) in 20 patients with ISS. Insulin resistance was assessed by homeostasis model assessment(HOMA). Results : During OGTT, the mean blood glucose level did not show any significant changes after GH treatment. However, mean blood insulin levels of fasting and 30 minutes of OGTT showed significant increases after GH treatment, accompanying significant increases of insulin resistance. There was no difference in change of glucose, insulin levels and insulin resistance before and after GH treatment between two groups of body mass indices(BMI) of 25< and >25. There also was no significant difference between two groups of with and without family histories of diabetes mellitus (DM). There was no case of newly developed impaired glucose tolerance, fasting glucose tolerance, nor newly developed DM. Conclusion : GH treatment with doses of 0.6-0.7 IU/kg/week for mean 9.6 months in patients with ISS did not show any significant changes in blood glucose levels during OGTT. However, GH treatments induced considerably higher fasting insulin levels compared to pretreatment, resulting in statistically higher insulin resistance. Higher BMI and family history of DM did not induce any significant changes in glucose, insulin level and insulin resistance after GH treatment than the other groups.

  • Purpose : The use of growth hormone(GH) to promote growth in normal short children without classical GH deficiency is controversial. Numerous foreign studies have shown the effects of GH therapy in children with idiopathic short stature(ISS) whereas few has been interested in Korea. Therefore, this study is designed to investigate the effects of GH therapy on ISS by observing correlations and changes among various growth parameters such as, insulin-like growth factor-I(IGF-I) and insulin-like growth factor binding protein-3(IGFBP-3). Methods : This study was conducted retrospectively with 15 children with ISS in Chungbuk National University Hospital in Korea. Mean age was $11.44{\pm}2.81$ and the children were treated with 0.66 IU/kg/wk dosage of GH for 1 or 2 years. Also, the growth parameters before and after the GH therapy were observed. Results : Height standard deviation score(HT-SDS) was increased from $-1.85{\pm}0.70$ to $-1.58{\pm}0.56$ at 1 year and to $-1.21{\pm}0.37$ at 2 years after GH therapy. Predicted adult height standard deviation score(PAH-SDS) was also increased from $-2.10{\pm}0.52$ to $-1.67{\pm}0.59$ at 1 year, and to $-0.96{\pm}0.60$ at 2 years. Serum IGF-I and IGFBP-3 levels were significantly increased after 1 year and marginally increased after 2 years of GH therapy. Conclusion : It is concluded that GH therapy has growth promoting effect. The significant increase in IGF-I and IGFBP-3 levels during the GH therapy suggests that IGF-I and IGFBP-3 are useful predictors of response to the use of GH therapy. It is expected that larger patient samples would provide more reliable information about the effect of GH therapy.

  • This study utilized 32,312 records of 17 linear type and 10 conformation traits(including final scores) of Hanwoo cows in the KAIA(Korea Animal Improvement Association) ('09~'10), with 60,556 animals in the pedigree file. Traits included stature, body length, strength, body depth, angularity, shank thickness, rump angle, rump length, pin bone width, thigh thickness, udder volume, teat length, teat placement, foot angle, hock angle, rear leg back view, body balance, breed characteristic, head development, forequarter quality, back line, rump, thigh development, udder development, leg line, and final score. Genetic and residual(co) variances were estimated using bi-trait pairwise analyses with EM-REML algorithm. Herd-year-classifier, year at classification, and calving stage were considered as fixed effects with classification months as a covariate. The heritability estimates ranged from 0.03(teat placement) to 0.42(body length). Rump length had the highest positive genetic correlation with pin bone width(0.96). Moreover, stature, body length, strength, and body depth had the highest positive genetic correlations with rump length, pin bone width, and thigh thickness(0.81-0.94). Stature, body length, strength, body depth, rump length, pin bone width, and thigh thickness traits also had high positive genetic correlations.

  • Objective: The aim of this study is to analyze the change characteristics of boys among the ages of 13 and 18 years. This study is based on the $4^{th}$ to the $6^{th}$ national anthropometric survey(Size Korea) data. Background: Many changes can affect the body characteristics compared withthe past. The significant changes were shown in Pepsi generation according to the report of national anthropometric survey of Korea 1997. Method: The subjects of the survey were 1,899 boys of the $4^{th}$ Size Korea, 1,587 boys of the $5^{th}$Size Korea and 2,317 boys of the $6^{th}$ Size Korea, who were from 13 to 18 years old. The change characteristics were analyzed withanthropometric measurements, height index value and proportion. Results: Stature was increased in 17~18 years old age group of the $5^{th}$ and the $6^{th}$ Size Korea and height items of the lower body showed the tendency to increase as the $6^{th}$ Size Korea over the time. In the case of circumference items, the tendency to increase in the $5^{th}$ and the $6^{th}$ Size Korea was observed. If the $5^{th}$ and the $6^{th}$ Size Korea were compared, there were no changes of other circumference items but chest circumference of the $6^{th}$ Size Korea was decreased in comparison with the $5^{th}$ Size Korea. Waist breadth(natural indentation) was increased in the $6^{th}$ Size Korea in spite of chest breadth was decreased in the $5^{th}$ and the $6^{th}$ Size Korea. And shoulder length, biacromion length and bishoulder length were decreased. The proportion of chest circumference, abdominal extension circumference and hip circumference to waist circumference and the proportion of chest breadth to waist breadth(natural indentation) showed the tendency to decrease as the $6^{th}$ Size Korea over the time. Conclusion: There was no change of stature excluding 17~18 years old. Circumference items showed tendency to increase as the $6^{th}$ Size Korea over the time. Shoulder and chest breadth became narrow. The somatotype changed to board chest with narrow waist in comparison with the previous. Application: In this way, the body size of 13~18 years' old boys changes. If these change characteristics reflects to the school uniform design, research for the pattern development, and etc., these will be able to improve fit and satisfaction of clothes.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to clarify the traits of differences supposed as secular differences in physical growth between samples of children and youth in 1999 and 2005, and to identify the need of children and youth for health promotion. Methods: Two samples of different cohort were selected. The first one was consisted of 231 boys and 346 girls in 1999. And the other was consisted of 171 boys and 400 girls in 2005. Then the longitudinal growth distance data were collected from their cumulative health examination records. Results: The 2005 were larger in growth distances of stature, body weight, sitting height, and chest girth a at all ages from 6 to 16 in both boys and girls, so it could be concluded that a certain positive shift in growth process appeared in such a short duration. The 2005 were larger in growth velocity before peak age and also after peak age in body weight, but only in the term after peak age significant secular differences were found in stature for both sexes. As far as the growth distance concerned, the 2005 boys were ahead of the 1999 boys from 0.28-1.02 years and the 2005 girls from 0.32 to 0.81 years. In growth distance. Only in peak velocity, significant secular change was recognized in both sexes, any positive evidences of appearance of secular change were not found in peal age. In such derived physical indices as BMI, body weight index, sitting height index, and chest girth index, obvious evidences of secular change appearance were found.

  • For orthodontic treatment of growing patients and those which involve long treatment times, knowledge of growth and development are essential. Data from the general growth observation chart being used at present does not reflect the growth transition of modern times. This is because these data are out of date. The present study, therefore, aims to introduce the process of producing a growth curve and growth rate curve based on data which represents a more accurate description of the present situation. The data used were from the 5th nationwide surrey, SIZE KOREA 2004 study, carried out by the Technology and Standards Policy Division, Department of Technology and Standards Planning, Ministry of Commerce. Processing and rearranging produced data with variations divided into the three quartiles and the 1st, 5th, 95th and 99th percentiles were included to produce a growth observation chart according to sex, height and weight differences. In the same way, a growth rate curve based on the geometric mean value was produced. The resulting growth charts can be used as an index for growth and development, and used for better communication between the orthodontist, patients and parents.
