With the rapid increase in gas consumption, the role of pipelines as a transportation means of natural gas is increasing. In general, when natural gas is being transported in pipelines, some liquid mainly from formation of condensate is introduced and this phenomenon makes operational problems more complex in the gas industry. Thus, an appropriate method is necessary for predicting the effect of presence of gas condensate on operational efficiency. In this study, a statistical model was developed using an integrated single- and two-phase flows concept. Using this model, the effects of the incipient point of gas condensate and its quantity on outlet pressure were analyzed. Also, the effect of variations of flow regimes in two-phase region on outlet pressure after the incipient point was analyzed.
In this study, earthquake loads are investigated statistically and compared with the nominal earthquake loads calculated according to the Turkish Earthquake Code, namely: "Specifications for Structures to be Built in Earthquake Areas". For this purpose, the "actual" mean load values estimated from statistical methods and the nominal load values computed according the Seismic Code are compared, with respect to some variations in the basic parameters, such as the importance factor, building height, site coefficient, seismic zone and seismic load reduction factor. In addition to the data compiled from different regions of Turkey, the published data and information in the foreign literature are also used in the determination of the earthquake load statistics. Although the dead and live loads acting on a structure are independent of the geographical location of the structure, environmental loads, such as earthquake loads are highly dependent on the location of the structure. Accordingly, for the assessment of statistical parameters associated with earthquake loads, twelve different locations which can represent the different seismic zones of Turkey as accurately as possible are chosen. As a result of the code calibration procedure considered in this study, it is observed that the load values obtained from the Turkish Seismic Code may overestimate or underestimate the actual seismic loads in some of the seismic zones.

The routing algorithm is one of the key research areas in ad hoc networks. The most of existing routing algorithms depends on current availability of wireless link when finding the feasible path. Dependence on current information may mislead to a fragile communication path. Some routing approaches that take statistical average on received signal power enhance the possibility to find the most stable path, but have limitation on considering only the average power level. In this paper, we propose routing algorithm based on link stability for ad hoc network. The proposed algorithm not only takes statistical average, but also traces the degree of variations in received signal power. The simulation result support that the proposed algorithm is more likely to find the most stable path under the severe communication environment.
Generally, the rainfall and the influent of wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) have strong relationship at the case of combined sewers. With the fact that the influent variations in terms of quantity and sewage quality is the most common and significant disturbance, the impact factor to the characteristics of sewage should be searched for. In this paper, the relationship between weather conditions such as humidity, temperature and rainfall and influent flowrate and contaminant concentration was analysed using factor analysis. Additionally, 3 influent types were deduced using cluster analysis and the distributions of operational variables were compared to the each groups by one-way ANOVA. The applied dataset were clustered to three groups that have the similar weather and influent conditions. These different conditions can cause the different operating conditions at WWTPs. That is, the Group 1 is for the condition with high humidity and rainfall, so DO concentration in the reactor was very high but MLSS concentration was very low because of too large flowrate. However, the Group 3 is classified to the case having low humidity, temperature, and rainfall, therefore, the SRT was the longest and the SVI was the highest due to the worst settleability in the winter for a year.

Predicting precise specifications of differential mixed-signal circuits is a difficult problem, because analytically derived correlation between process variations and conventional specifications exhibits the limited prediction accuracy due to the phase unbalance, for most self-tests. This paper proposes an efficient prediction technique to provide accurate specifications of differential mixed-signal circuits in a system-on-chip (SoC) based on a nonlinear statistical nonlinear regression technique. A spectrally pure sinusoidal signal is applied to a differential DUT, and its output is fed into another differential DUT through a weighting circuitry in the loopback configuration. The weighting circuitry, which is employed from the previous work [3], efficiently produces different weights on the harmonics of the loopback responses, i.e., the signatures. The correlation models, which map the signatures to the conventional specifications, are built based on the statistical nonlinear regression technique, in order to predict accurate nonlinearities of individual DUTs. In production testing, once the efficient signatures are measured, and plugged into the obtained correlation models, the harmonic coefficients of DUTs are readily identified. This work provides a practical test solution to overcome the serious test issue of differential mixed-signal circuits; the low accuracy of analytically derived model is much lower by the errors from the unbalance. Hardware measurement results showed less than 1.0 dB of the prediction error, validating that this approach can be used as production test.

An identification and characterization of susceptibility genes for common complex multifactorial diseases is a challengeable task, in which the effect of single genetic variation will be likely dependent on other genetic variations(gene-gene interaction) and environmental factors (gene-environment interaction). To address is issue, the multifactor dimensionality reduction (MDR) has been proposed and implemented by Ritchie et al. (2001), Moore et al. (2002), Hahn et al.(2003) and Ritchie et al. (2003). With MDR, multilocus genotypes effectively reduce the dimension of genotype predictors from n to one, which improves the identification of polymorphism combinations associated with disease risk. However, MDR cannot handle missing observations appropriately, in which missing observation is treated as an additional genotype category. This approach may suffer from a sparseness problem since when high-order interactions are considered, an additional missing category would make the contingency table cells more sparse. We propose a new MDR approach with minimum loss of sample sizes by considering missing data over all possible multifactor classes. We evaluate the proposed MDR by using the prediction errors and cross validation consistency.
Published employment statistics do not provide enough information about the relationship of unemployment and economic and business conditions. This study investigates long-run equilibrium relations and short-run adjustment process of unemployment and discouraged unemployment with major price variables in the business coincident and lagging framework. Speed of adjustment from short-run disequilibrium to long-run equilibrium is found to be relatively faster for discouraged unemployment that appears more responsive to changes in most of explanatory variables. Discouraged unemployment is found to reflect reality and suggested to be a more meaningful statistical index.

Copy number variations(CNVs) are known as one of the most important factors in susceptibility to genetic disorders because they affect expression levels of genes. In previous studies, pyrosequencing, mini-sequencing real-time polymerase chain reaction(PCR), invader assays and other techniques have been used to detect CNVs. However, the higher the copy number in a genome, the more difficult it is to resolve the copies, so a more accurate method for measuring CNVs and assigning genotype is needed. PCR followed by a quantitative oligonucleotide ligation assay(qOLA) was developed for quantifying CNVs. The aim of this study was to compare the two methods for detecting and quantifying the CNVs of duplicated gene: the published pyrosequencing assay(pyro_CNV) and the newly developed qOLA_CNV. The accuracy and precision of the assay were evaluated for porcine KIT, which was selected as a model locus. Overall, the root mean squares(RMSs) of bias and standard deviation of qOLA_CNV were 2.09 and 0.45, respectively. These values are less than half of those of pyro CNV.

In this paper, the possibility of statistical modeling from the pulp and peroxide bleaching condition variables to predict optical properties of a bleached chemimechanical pulp used in a newsprint paper machine at Mazandaran Wood and Paper Industries Company (MWPI) was studied. Due to the variations in the opacity and the brightness of the bleached pulp at MWPI and to tackle this problem, it was decided to study the possibility of modeling the bleaching process. To achieve this purpose, Multi-variate Regression Analysis was used for model building and it was found that there is a relationship between independent variables and pulp brightness as well as pulp opacity, consequently, two models were constructed. Then, model validation was carried out using new data set in the bleaching plant at MWPI to test model predictive ability and its performance.
Field-scale DNAPL dissolution is controlled by the topology of DNAPL distributions with respect to the velocity field. A high resolution percolation model was developed and employed to simulate the distribution of DNAPL within source zones. Statistically anisotropic permeability values and capillary parameters were generated for 10${\times}$10${\times}$10 m domains at a resolution of 0.05 to 0.1 m for various statistical properties. TCE leakage was simulated at various rates and the distribution of residual DNAPL in 'fingers' and 'lenses' was computed. Variations in finger and lens geometries, frequencies, average DNAPL saturations, and overall source topology were predicted to be strongly influenced by statistical properties of the medium as well as by injection rate and fluid properties. Model results were found to be consistent with observations from controlled DNAPL release experiments reported in the literature. The computed distributions of aquifer properties and DNAPL were utilized to perform high-resolution numerical simulations of groundwater flow and dissolved transport. Simulations were performed to assess the effect of grout or foam injection in bore holes within the source zone and of shallow point-releases of fluids with various properties on dissolution in DNAPL dissolution rate, even for widely spaced injection points. The results indicate that measures that induced partial flow reductions through DNAPL source zones can significantly decrease dissolution rates from residual DNAPL. The benefit from induced partial flow reductions is two-fold: 1) local flow reduction in DNAPL contaminated zones reduces mass transfer rates, and 2) contaminant flux reductions occur due to the decrease in groundwater velocity
