Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the validity and reliability of using static surface electromyography (sEMG) on persons with neck pain and in healthy adults. Design: Cross-sectional study. Methods: Twenty-two female participants with neck pain and thirty healthy adults in the age group of 20-65 years were recruited in this study. To evaluate the validity and reliability of sEMG in subjects with neck pain, the subjects'characteristics were recorded and the Visual Analog Scale (VAS) and Neck Disability Index (NDI) were examined in addition to sEMG and algometer tests being carried out on the subjects. The site for using the sEMG and algometer was the upper trapezius. sEMG test-retest reliability was measured by intraclass correlation coefficients (ICCs). Independent t-tests were used to analyze the differences in the dependent variables between subjects with neck pain and healthy adults. The Pearson correlation coefficient was used to examine the linear relationship between measured variables. Results: sEMG and algometer tests were reliable according to the test-retest reliability results in subjects with neck pain and healthy adults (ICC=0.815-0.979). The results of this study showed that there were significant differences in respect to age, VAS, sEMG and algometer tests between persons with neck pain and healthy adults (p<0.05). The VAS and NDI were statistically correlated with sEMG and algometer results (p<0.05). Conclusions: In this study, we investigated the clinical usefulness of the static sEMG test in evaluating the pain scale of persons with neck pain with high reliability and validity.
Purpose: This study aimed to examine the effects of proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation (PNF) upper and lower limb coordinated exercises on balance in elderly women. Methods: The study was conducted with 27 elderly women who were at least 65-year-old. The subjects were randomly assigned to a PNF upper and lower limb coordinated exercise group consisting of 14 subjects and an aero step balance exercise group consisting of 13 subjects, and the exercises were performed for 30 minutes, three times per week, for eight weeks. One Leg Stance Tests (OLST), Functional Reaching Tests (FRT), Four Square Step Tests (FSST), and Timed Up and Go (TUB) tests were conducted before and after the exercises to evaluate the subjects' static balance ability and dynamic balance ability. Among the collected data, the subjects' general characteristics were evaluated using descriptive statistics, the intra-group differences of the test results before and after the intervention were compared using paired sample t-tests, and the inter-group differences in the results before and after the intervention were evaluated using independent sample t-tests. The statistical significance level was set to 0.05. Results: Among the OLST, FRT, FSST, and TUG tests, the experimental group showed positive FSST results that were statistically significantly greater than the control group; the results of the other tests were also more positive for this group, but the differences between the groups were not statistically significant. The magnitude of the effects for both groups was clinically significant. Conclusion: Since inter-limb coordinated exercises for PNF applied to elderly women were found to produce good results for both static balance ability and dynamic balance ability, these exercises can be used in exercise programs to improve balance in elderly women.

This paper presents static and dynamic measurement of the stress and motion characteristics for crawler type excavators. Eight scenarios were prepared for static measurement based on two extreme digging positions, maximum digging reach position and maximum digging force position. The measured items for static motion included stress, cylinder pressure, cylinder stroke and digging force. The measured static stresses showed that asymmetric digging force acting on a bucket induced higher stress level than symmetric one. The measured static pressures and digging forces also agreed with design pressures and design digging forces, respectively. The dynamic measurement was performed for two types of motion, that is, simple reciprocation of each cylinder and actual digging motion. The measured items for dynamic motion were stroke and pressure of each cylinder, stresses on the working device and acceleration on the upper plate of an arm. The measured data showed that the natural frequency of the excavator highly depended on the hydraulic stiffness of cylinders. Digging motion tests revealed that digging motion was closer to static motion rather than dynamic one.

In this study, a series of full-scale field tests on prebored and precast steel pipe piles and the corresponding numerical analysis have been conducted in order to study the characteristics of pile load-settlement relations and shear stress transfer at the pile-soil interface. Dynamic pile load tests (EOID and restrike) have been performed on the piles and the estimated design pile loads from EOID and restrike tests were analysed. Class-A type numerical analyses conducted prior to the pile loading tests were 56~105%, 65~121% and 38~142% respectively of those obtained from static load tests. In addition, design loads estimated from the restrike tests indicate increases of 12~60% compared to those estimated in the EOID tests. The EOID tests show large end bearing capacity while the restrike tests demonstrate increased skin friction. When impact energy is insufficient during the restrike tests, the end bearing capacity may be underestimated. It has been found that total pile capacity would be reasonably estimated if skin friction from the restrike tests and end bearing capacity from the EOID are combined. The load-settlement relation measured from the static pile load tests and estimated from the numerical modelling is in general agreement until yielding occurs, after which results from the numerical analyses substantially deviated away from those obtained from the static load tests. The measured pile behaviour from the static load tests shows somewhat similar behaviour of perfectly-elastic plastic materials after yielding with a small increase in the pile load, while the numerical analyses demonstrates a gradual increase in the pile load associated with strain hardening approaching ultimate pile load. It has been discussed that the load-settlement relation mainly depends upon the stiffness of the ground, whilst the shear transfer mechanism depends on shear strength parameters.
The current boost type atatic excitation system for synchronous generator that can sustain prope output voltage level even at fault condition is proposed. The proposed excitation system is capabl of supplying level 60% of the rated voltage. The proposed system is verified and tested using computer simulations as well as load tests. The load tests are performed with a 5KVA synchronous generator driven by a ac motor. The actual tests results indicated a good performance.
Dynamic and static load tests are conducted in four construction sites by using steel pipe piles(SPP) and concrete piles to compare differences of load bearing mechanism. Steel pipe piles are instrumented with electric strain gages and are subject to dynamic load tests during driving. The damage of strain gages attached is checked simultaneously. Static load test is also conducted on the same piles after two to seven days' elapse. Then load-settlement behavior and shaft and/or tip resistances are measured. As a result, the allowable bearing capacity calculated by the Davisson's offset method of CAPWAP analysis shows 2~33% larger than that of static load test. The average value of allowable bearing capacity of static load test is closer to the allowable capacity obtained at the safety factor of 2.5 applied on ultimate bearing capacity than to the one obtained from the Davisson's offset method. The analysis of strain gage readings shows that unit skin friction increases with depth. Furthermore, the friction mobilized around the 1~2m above the pile tip considerably contributes to the total shaft resistance.
Purpose: The purpose of the study was to investigate the effects of HMD (head mounted display)-based virtual reality balance training on static balance in young adults, and whether appropriate balance training can help healthy adults to improve balance ability in daily living. Methods: The study subjects were 14 healthy adults. Subjects received 20 minutes of HMD-based virtual reality balance training 3 times per week for 4 weeks. Static balance was measured before, during, and after training and after one month. Static balance was measured in a total of 8 conditions, and the results were classified as visual (F1), somatosensory (F5-6), vestibular (F2-4), and central nervous system (F7-8). Results: The test results showed no significant difference in pre-training, post-training, and follow-up results under all conditions at Fourier index F1, F5-6, and F7-8 frequencies. For the F2-4 frequency, there was a significant difference before and after training under NC (neutral head position, eyes closed, firm surface) and PC (neutral head position, eyes closed, elastic surface) conditions. The NC condition returned a significant decrease of F2-4 frequency in post-training testing as compared to pre-training, and the PC condition showed a significant decrease of F2-4 frequency between the pre-training and mid-training tests, and between the pre-training and post-training tests. Conclusion: These results indicate that HMD-based balance training can improve balance ability, even in normal adults, and seems especially effective for vestibular function training.

The resistance bias factors for driven steel pipe piles are evaluated as a part of study to develop the LRFD(Load and Resistance Factor Design) for foundation structures in Korea. The 43 data sets of static load tests and soil property tests performed in the whole domestic area were collected and analyzed to determine the representative bearing capacities of the piles using various methods. Based on the statistical analysis of the data, the Davisson's criterion is proved to be the most reasonable method for estimation of pile bearing capacity among the methods used. The static bearing capacity formulas and the Meyerhof method using N values are applied to calculate the design bearing capacity of the piles. The resistance bias factors of the driven steel pipe piles are evaluated respectively as 0.98 and 1.46 by comparison of the bearing capacities for both of the static bearing capacity formulas and the Meyerhof method. It is also shown that uncertainty of the static bearing capacity formulas is relatively less than that of the Meyerhof method.
In many practical cases, design methods of pile have been used mainly semi empirical bearing capacity equations. It can be done that confirmation of pile bearing capacities through using of dynamic and static tests during constructing or after constructions. If a prediction of layered point pile bearing capacity could be done through simple tests during field investigation, it could be done that more reliable design of pile than a prediction of using semi empirical equations or static formulations. This paper suggests a method to estimated point bearing capacity during in-situ investigation by using the dynamic rod model pile and verifies the point bearing capacity compare with results of static pile load tests. From test results, the unit ultimate point bearing capacities are relatively similar through a dynamic rod model pile tests and static pile load tests. The unit ultimate point bearing capacity by using N value is shown about 50 % value of measured unit ultimate point bearing capacity from field test result and the prediction of the unit ultimate point bearing capacity by using N value is shown very conservative, illogical and uneconomical pile designs.

This research focuses on producing a cheap polymer, and also experiments for marking with the high strength polymer concrete structures. At present only a few tests on shear behavior in polymer reinforced concrete beams(PRC) have been reported. In the current experiments, the reinforced concrete beams with polymer fraction are investigated. The beams in this study are supported by conventional stirrups at appropriate intervals and they are designed to take static loads. The strength of beams are measured and the behavior of beams under each loading are oh served in order to determine some advantages of adding polymer to reinforced concrete beams. The static testing data consist of load, displacement, and strain at specified reinforcement locations, and the support displacement In the static tests, it has been observed that the beams fail in the same way as RC. However, it is observed to he rather weak in impact, hut it can he said that its increase of strength and excellency of repairing are verified. Consequently this work strongly suggests that the steam-curing or the air-curing or the air-curing must be performed to increase the strength.
