An important challenging issue in the automotive industry is the light-weight, safe design and enhancement of crash response of an auto-body structures. These objectives lead to increasing adoption of high strength steel sheet for inner and outer auto-body members. This paper evaluates the dynamic tensile characteristics of high strength steel sheets, HS45R, TRIP60, DP60 and DP100, along the rolling direction and transverse direction. Static tensile tests were carried out at the strain rate of 0.003/sec using the static tensile machine (Instron 5583). Dynamic tensile tests were carried out at the range of strain rate from 0.1/sec to 200/sec using a high speed material testing machine developed. The tensile tests acquire stress-strain relation and strain rate sensitivity of each material. The experimental results show two important aspects for high strength steels: the flow stress increases as strain rate increases; the strain hardening decreases as the tensile stress increases. The experiments also produce interesting results that the elongation does not decrease even when the strain rate increases.
This paper presents a study on the crashworthiness of the scaled-down stiffened panels used on a Korean icebreaker. In order to validate the crashworthiness of the panels, this paper provides various mechanical properties such as the results of a CVN test, quasi-static tensile test, and high-speed tensile test at arctic temperatures. Two types of steels (EH32 and FH32) were chosen for the material tests. CVN tests revealed that the two steels were equivalent up to −60℃ in terms of their impact energy absorption capacity. However, the toughness of FH32 was significantly superior to that of EH32. EH32 showed slightly higher flow stresses at all temperature levels compared to FH32. The improvement ratios of the yield strengths, tensile strengths, plastic hardening exponents, etc. for FH32, which were obtained from quasi-static tensile tests, showed an apparent ascending tendency with a decrease in temperature. Dynamic tensile test results were obtained for the two temperatures levels of 20℃ and −60℃ with two plastic strain rate levels of 1 s−1 and 100 s−1. A closed form empirical formula proposed by Choung et al. (2011;2013) was shown to be effective at predicting the flow stress increase due to a strain rate increase.
When the wind turbine is used in cold regions, the mechanical properties and dimension stability of the blade will be changed. The proposal of this paper is to test the durability of the blade for wind turbine. It is necessary to select the most comfortable materials and fabrication processes for more stable wind turbine blade in cold regions. To select the most comfortable materials and processes, the static strength has to know through the tensile static tests at the severe condition as cold regions. First, the tensile static specimens made by RIM (Resin injection molding) process & vacuum bagging process with reinforcement materials and resin. Tensile static tests were carried out on three laminate lay-ups (carbon prepreg, carbon fiber dry fabric and glass fiber dry fabric) at different test temperature($24^{\circ}$, $-30^{\circ}$), determining properties such as the mechanical strength, stiffness and strain to failure. At different test temperature, in order to test the tensile strengths of these specimens used the low temperature chamber. Next, the results of this test were compared with each other. Finally, the most comfortable materials and fabrication processes can select based on these results. The results show the changes in the static behavior of three laminate lay-ups at different test temperatures. At low temperatures, the static strengths are higher than the ones at room temperature.

The plastics are widely utilized in the inside of vehicles. The dynamic tensile characteristics of auto-body plastics are important in a prediction of deformation mode of the plastic component which undergoes the high speed deformation during car crash. This paper is concerned with the dynamic tensile characteristics of the auto-body plastics at intermediate strain rates. Quasi-static tensile tests were carried out at the strain rate ranged from 0.001/sec to 0.01/sec using the static tensile machine(Instron 5583). Dynamic tensile tests were carried out at the strain rate ranged from 0.1/sec to 100/sec using the high speed material testing machine developed. Conventional extensometry method is no longer available for plastics, since the deformation of plastic is accompanied with localized deformation. In this paper, quasi-static and dynamic tensile tests were performed using ASTM IV standard specimens with grids and images from a high speed camera were analyzed for strain measurement. True stress-strain relations and the actual strain rates at each deformation step were obtained by processing load data and deformation images, assuming the plastics to deform uniformly in each grid.
The failure behavior and tensile strength of sandstone materials under different strain rates are greatly different, especially under static loads and impact loads. In order to clearly investigate the failure mechanism of sandstone materials under static and impact loads, a series of Brazilian disc samples were used by employing green sandstone, red sandstone and black sandstone to carry out static and impact loading splitting tensile tests, and the failure properties subjected to two different loading conditions were analyzed and discussed. Subsequently, the failure behavior of sandstone materials also were simulated by finite element code. The good agreement between simulation results and experimental results can obtain the following significantly conclusions: (1) The relationship of the tensile strength among sandstone materials is that green sandstone < red sandstone < black sandstone, and the variation of the tensile sensitivity of sandstone materials is that green sandstone > red sandstone > black sandstone; (2) The mainly cause for the difference of dynamic tensile strength of sandstone materials is that the strength of crystal particles in sandstone material, and the tensile strength of sandstone is proportional to the fractal dimension; (3) The dynamic failure behavior of sandstone is greatly different from that of static failure behavior, and the dynamic tensile failure rate in dynamic failure behavior is about 54.92%.

A mechanical press joining was investigated in ender for joining A1-5052 sheets for automobile body weight reduction. Static tensile and fatigue tests were conducted using tensile-shear specimens for evaluation of fatigue strength of the joint. During Tox joining process for A1-5052 plates, using the current sheet thickness and punch diameter, the optimal applied punching force was found to be 32 kN under the current joining condition. For the static tensile-shear experiment results, the fracture mode is classified into interface fracture mode, in which the neck area fractured due to influence of neck thickness, and pull-out fracture mode due to influence of plastic deformation of the joining area. And, during fatigue tests for the A1-5052 tensile shear specimens, interface failure mode occurred in the region of low cycle. The fatigue endurance limit approached to 6 percents of the maximum applied load, considering fatigue lifetime of $2.5\times10^6$ cycles.

An unbonded post-tensioned anchor using a 15.2 mm diameter 7-wire strand was developed based on finite element analysis and experimental testing. In order to evaluate its performance, static load tests and load transfer tests were conducted following KCI-PS101. The static load tests and additional strand tensile tests confirmed that the developed anchor had a capacity more than nominal tensile strength of a 7-wire strand without any damage or deterioration. According to the result of load transfer tests for many different reinforcing details, specimens with no additional reinforcing bars sustained at least 1.64 times the nominal tensile strength of the strand.
The static tensile tests of GFRP, ID300, CFRID300 and CFRPEEK were made on the plain and notched specimens at room temperature. The results were discussed based on linear notch mechanics which was proposed by H.Nistani. The fracture of notched GFRP, ID300, CFRID300 and CFRPEEK specimens is controlled by the elastic maximum stress, $({\sigma}_max)$, and the notch root racius,$\rho$, alone, independently of the other geometrical conditions. The relation between fracture nominal stress,$({\sigma}_max)$, and stress concentration factor, $K_t$ and a part where $({\sigma}_c)$ is nearly constant independent of $K_t$. A similar phenomenon can be seen in the fatigue tests of notched specimes under rotating bending or push-pull. The almost constant $({\sigma}_c)$ values correspond to the nearly constant apparent stress intensity factor, $K_{1pc}$ values, obtained by assuming ,$\rho$=0. This can be attributed to the existence of the stable crack. Linear notch mechanics is very useful for analyzing the static tensile fracture behavior of notched GFRP, ID300, CFRPEEK specimens.
Historical masonry mosques are the most important structures of Islamic societies. To estimate the static and dynamic behavior of these historical structures, an examination of their restoration studies is very important. In this study, Kara Mustafa Pasha Mosque, which was built as a domed mosque by Kara Mustafa Pasha between 1666-1667 in Amasya, Turkey, has been analyzed. This study investigates the structural behavior and architectural features of the mosque. In order to determine specific mechanical properties, compression and three-point bending tests were conducted on materials, which have similar age and show similar properties as the examined mosque. Additionally, a three-dimensional finite element model of the mosque was developed and the structural responses were investigated through static and dynamic analyses. The results of the analyses were focused on the stresses and displacements. The experimental test results indicate that the construction materials have greatly retained their mechanical properties over the centuries. The obtained maximum compression and tensile stresses from the analyses have been determined as smaller than the materials' strengths. However, the stresses calculated from dynamic analysis might cause structural problems in terms of tensile stresses.
