An Engine Structure-Borne Noise Analysis by Finite Element Method (유한요소법에 의한엔진 구조소음 해석)

  • This paper presents the static analysis, the modal analysis and the forced vibration analysis on engine structures to find out the structure-borne noise sources by finite element method. The deformation of engine structures under the maximum combu- stion gas force was calculated through the static analysis, and the resonance possibilities were predicted by the modal analysis which ascertains mode shapes and the corresponding frequencies of engine global and its major noise sources in engine surfaces were investigated with the forced vibration analysis by means of finding the transfer mobilities on engine surfaces due to the piston impact and the velocity levels due to the combustion in consideration of oil film stiffness and damping coefficients. Finally, the direction of engine structure-borne noise reduction can be estabilished by the above-mentioned analysis procedure and the reduction effect of cost on proto-type engine build-up is expected.

  • Seismic reliability analysis of a jacket-type support structure for an offshore wind turbine was performed. When defining the limit state function by using the dynamic response of the support structure, a number of dynamic calculations must be performed in a First-Order Reliability Method (FORM). That means analysis costs become too high. In this paper, a new reliability analysis approach using a static response is used. The dynamic effect of the response is considered by introducing a new parameter called the Peak Response Factor (PRF). The probability distribution of PRF can be estimated by using the peak value in the dynamic response. The probability distribution of the PRF was obtained by analyzing dynamic responses during a set of ground motions. A numerical example is presented to compare the proposed approach with the conventional static response-based approach.

  • Moving flexible structures such as transfer systems in press machine, crane, working table of machine tools have vibration problems because of starting, feeding and stopping. An analysis method is suggested and experimentally studied in order to solve a vibration problem of a moving flexible structure. In this method, the concepts of substructure synthesis method and semi-static displacement including rigid body mode were used. Total deformation of a structure was assumed to be composed of quasi-static and dynamic components. Experimental results from an elementary model of a transfer feeder showed good agreements with computational results.

  • The recent high speed propeller with blade sweep is required to have high strength to get the thrust to fly at high speed. The high stiffness and strength carbon/epoxy composite material is used for the major structure and skin-spar-foam sandwich structural type is adopted for advantage in terms of the blade weight. As a design procedure for the present study, the structural design load is estimated through investigation on aerodynamic load and then flanges of spars from major bending loads and the skin from shear loads are sized using the netting rule and Rule of Mixture. In order to investigate the structural safety and stability, stress analysis is performed by finite element analysis code MSC. NASTRAN. It is found that current methodology of composite structure design is a valid method through the static structural test of prototype blade.

  • In this paper, an integral variable structure static output feedback controller with an integral-augmented sliding surface is designed for the improved robust control of a uncertain system under unmatched system uncertainty and matched input matrix uncertainty and disturbance satisfying some conditions. To effectively remove the reaching phase problems, an output dependent integral augmented sliding surface is proposed. Its equivalent control and ideal sliding mode dynamics are obtained. The previous some limitations is overcome in this systematic design. A stabilizing control with the closed loop exponential stability is designed for all unmatched system matrix uncertainties and proved together with the existence condition of the sliding mode on S=0. To show the usefulness of the algorithm, a design example and computer simulations are presented.

  • The structural behaviors under wheel loads are much different from those under uniform loads which are generally adopted for the design of parking garage. In such a viewpoint, the structural behavior of a Half-PC concrete underground parking garage under wheel loads was investigated using the site instrumentations. The static wheel loads were applied on the structure to evaluate the actual static resistance, and moving load tests were also performed to evaluate the impact factors of the structure. Besides, the impact tests were also conducted to estimate the modal parameters of the structure. Through the experimental investigations, it was found that the structural performance of the underground parking garage can be improved by use of structural type such as Half-PC concrete structures.

  • In magnetotelluric (MT) surveys, small inhomogeneities near the surface cause a static shift in which apparent resistivities shift regardless of frequency. As the static shift in MT data leads to errors in subsurface structure interpretation, many studies have been conducted over the past few decades to mitigate or remove the distortions it caused. The most representative method involves removing static shifts from the data before inversion. Conversely, static shifts can be corrected during inversion or included in the inversion process. In addition, other geophysical data can be used to remove static shifts. However, the correction methods are limited to one-dimensional (1D) static responses, and limitations remain in two- or three-dimensional (2D or 3D) interpretation of distorted MT data owing to static shifts. This study provides a foundation for future studies on static shift by analyzing several previously published methods.

  • Airframe structure development of the 35 kg class 'Disaster and Public Safety Multicopter' UAV is described in this paper. To reduce the airframe weight, T-700 grade CFRP composite material was used, and the fuselage was designed with the semi-monocoque structure and plate installed with the control and communication devices designed in a sandwich structure. The specimen tests for the laminated plate and pipe were conducted to verify the strength and stiffness of the designed parts. The stacking sequence of composite materials was determined by the static strength and vibration analysis, and landing gear strut was designed by the nonlinear analysis with decent speed and ground clearance requirements. The static strength test was performed to evaluate the structural integrity and to verify the landing gear behavior.

  • This paper proposes an ultra-low power design methodology for asynchronous circuits which combines with power switch structure used for reducing leakage current in the synchronous circuits. Compared to existing delay-insensitive asynchronous circuits such as static NCL and semi-static NCL, the proposed methodology provides the leakage power reduction in the NULL mode due to the high Vth of the power switches and the switching power reduction at the switching moment due to the smaller area even though it has a reasonable speed penalty. Therefore, it will become a low power design methodology required for IoT system design placing more value on power than speed. In this paper, the proposed methodology has been evaluated by a $4{\times}4$ multiplier designed using 0.11 um CMOS technology, and the simulation results have been compared to the conventional asynchronous circuits in terms of circuit delay, area, switching power and leakage power.

Fast Dynamic Reliability Estimation Approach of Seismically Excited SDOF Structure (지진하중을 받는 단자유도 구조물의 신속한 동적 신뢰성 추정 방법)

  • This study proposes a fast estimation method of dynamic reliability indices or failure probability for SDOF structure subjected to earthquake excitations. The proposed estimation method attempts to derive coefficient function for correcting dynamic effects from static reliability analysis in order to estimate the dynamic reliability analysis results. For this purpose, a total of 60 cases of structures with various characteristics of natural frequency and damping ratio under various allowable limits were taken into account, and various types of approximation coefficient functions were considered as potential candidate models for dynamic effect correction. Each reliability index was computed by directly performing static and dynamic reliability analyses for the given 60 cases, and nonlinear curve fittings for potential candidate models were performed from the computed reliability index data. Then, the optimal estimation model was determined by evaluating the accuracy of the dynamic reliability analysis results estimated from each candidate model. Additional static and dynamic reliability analyses were performed for new models with different characteristics of natural frequency, damping ratio and allowable limit. From these results, the accuracy and numerical efficiency of the optimal estimation model were compared with the dynamic reliability analysis results. As a result, it was confirmed that the proposed model can be a very efficient tool of the dynamic reliability estimation for seismically excited SDOF structure since it can provide very fast and accurate reliability analysis results.
