This paper analyzes static and transient response characteristics of a permanent magnet type stepping motor with claw poles using three-dimensional finite element method. The outer diameter of the stepping motor to be analyzed is approximately 6 mm. In this paper we analyzes only 2 poles of the stepping motor, which has 10 magnetic poles made up of NdFeB material, using periodic boundary condition. We clarify transient response and static torque charateristics using Maxwell 3D and Matlab Simulink.

In this study, a response spectrum analysis of an electric distributing board (EDB) was conducted to investigate seismic integrity in the design stage. For the seismic analysis, the required response spectra of a safe shutdown earthquake with 2% damping (RRS/SSE-2%) specified in GR-63-CORE Zone 4 was used as the ground spectral acceleration input. A finite element method modal analysis of the EDB was also performed to examine the occurrence of resonance within the frequency range of the earthquake response spectrum. Furthermore, static stress caused by deadweight was analyzed. The resultant total maximum stress of the EDB structure was calculated by adding the maximum stresses from both seismic and static loads using the square root of the sum of the squares (SRSS) method. Finally, the structural safety of the EDB was investigated by comparing the resultant total maximum stress with the allowable stress.

The structural design of the ships includes two main issues which should be checked carefully, namely the extreme structural response (yielding & buckling) and the fatigue structural response. Even if the corresponding failure modes are fundamentally different, the overall methodologies for their evaluation have many common points. Both issues require application of two main steps: deterministic calculations of hydro-structure interactions for given operating conditions on one side and the statistical post-processing in order to take into account the lifetime operational profile, on the other side. In the case of ultra large ships such as the container ships and in addition to the classical quasi-static type of structural responses the hydroelastic structural response becomes important. This is due to several reasons among which the following are the most important: the increase of the flexibility due to their large dimensions (Lpp close to 400 m) which leads to the lower structural natural frequencies, very large operational speed (> 20 knots) and large bow flare (increased slamming loads). The correct modeling of the hydroelastic ship structural response, and its inclusion into the overall design procedure, is significantly more complex than the evaluation of the quasi static structural response. The present paper gives an overview of the different tools and methods which are used in nowadays practice.

Fiber element method in earthquake response analysis of bridges is used to represents a realistic flexural deformation according to nonlinear behavior of beam-column section. Nonlinear pseudo-static analysis of two column bent using fiber element is accomplished and failure mechanism of the plastic hinge region is studied. Load-displacement curve obtained by nonlinear pseudo-static analysis can be applicable to earthquake response analysis by capacity spectrum method. The nonlinear time history analysis of a full bridge model using fiber element experienced by the ground motion corresponding to the target response spectrum is accomplished. The result of time history analysis is similar to that of capacity spectrum method.

This study analyzes the seismic response of traffic light poles, considering soil-foundation effects through nonlinear static and time history analyses. Two poles are investigated, uni-directional and bi-directional, each with 9 m mast arms. Finite element models incorporate the poles, soil, and concrete foundations for analysis. Results show that the initial stiffness of the traffic light poles decreases by approximately 38% due to soil effects, and the drift ratio at which their nonlinear behavior occurs is 77% of scenarios without considering soil effects. The maximum acceleration response increases by about 82% for uni-directional poles and 73% for bi-directional poles, while displacement response increases by approximately 10% for uni-directional and 16% for bi-directional poles when considering soil-foundation effects. Additionally, increasing ground motion intensity reduces soil restraints, making significant rotational displacement the dominant response mechanism over flexural displacement for the traffic light poles. These findings underscore the importance of considering soil-foundation interactions in analyzing the seismic behavior of traffic light poles and provide valuable insights to enhance their seismic resilience and safety.

The proposed model to predict the bridge load carrying capacity uses the impact response spectrum. The spectrum is based on Euler-Bernoulli beam and the center of the bridge width for the moving load location. Therefore, it is necessary to investigate the eccentric moving load effects on the impact factor and response factor. For this, this study considers 10 m width and two-lane simply supported slab bridges and performs the moving load analysis to investigate the variations of peak impact factor and corresponding response factor. The numerical results show that the eccentric load increases both the static and dynamic displacements, but the impact factor is decreased since the incremental amount of static displacement is bigger than that of dynamic displacement. However, the difference of the impact factors between the center and eccentric loadings is small showing less than 0.5%p. In the response factor, the eccentric loading increases both the static and dynamic response factors, compared to the center loading. The difference of the response factor is only 0.18%p. It shows that the eccentric loading has very small effects on the response factor, thus the impact factor response spectrum which is generated based on the center moving load can be used to determine the response factor.

A nonlinear dynamic response structural optimization process is proposed for the television (TV) packing system that protects the damage from a drop situation using the equivalent static loads (ESLs). Topology optimization using ESLs is carried out for conceptual design, and shape optimization using stress ESLs for a virtual model is performed for detailed design. Stress ESLs are static loads that generate the same displacement as well as the stress fields of linear static analysis as those of nonlinear dynamic analysis. Thus, the response of nonlinear dynamic analysis can be utilized as a constraint in the linear static structural optimization. An actual example is solved to validate the process. The drop test of a television packaging system is analyzed by LS-DYNA, and NASTRAN is used for optimization.
Traditional static headspace and headspace solid-phase microextraction(SPME) techniques were compared for their effectiveness in the extraction of volatile flavor compounds from the headspace of persimmon vinegar. The adsorption condition of SPME fiber for equilibrated headspace vapor was selected as $80^{\circ}C$ and 20 min. Total FID response for volatiles of persimmon vinegar was exactly higher such as total peak area $18.18{\times}10^6$ in SPMEGC technique than total peak area $1.35{\times}10^6$ in static headspace-GC. The major volatiles in persimmon vinegar were acetic acid, ethyl acetate, 3-hydroxy-2-butanone, ethanol, phenethyl alcohol. From static headspace-GC technique, 3 acids, 3 aldehydes, 5 alcohols, 9 esters and 1 ketone were identified. From SPME-GC technique, total 34 compounds including 6 acids, 7 aldehydes, 6 alcohols, 9 esters, 2 hydrocarbones, 1 ketone, 3 others were detected. Also the ratio for benzaldehyde, phenethylacetate and phenethylalcohol were higher in SPME-GC.

This paper aims to propose an image processing technique for measuring the static displacement of bridges from general inspection photograph; the color, shape, and spatial transformations of an arbitrary image stored in bridge management system database are used. This study is verified by using numerical analyses with experiments; the results demonstrate that the static displacement of bridges are measured by proposed technique. Moreover, this technique is able to obtain the static structural response of the bridge with changes in temperatures.

This paper concerns the static, dynamic and thermal characteristics analysis of a high-speed spindle system for horizontal machining centers with 45mm x50,000rpm. The spindle system is designed based on the angular contact ceramic ball bearings, built-in motor, oil-air lubrication method and oil jacket cooling method. The structural and thermal analysis models of spindle system are constructed by the finite element method. The static and dynamic characteristics are estimated based on the static deformation, modal parameter, mode shape and frequency response function, and the thermal characteristics are estimated based on the temperature rise, temperature distribution and thermal deformation. The analysis results illustrate that the designed spindle system has excellent structural and thermal stabilities
