The nonlinear characteristics for the hinge of a deployable missile control fin are investigated experimentally. The nonlinearity is caused by a worn or loose hinge and manufacturing tolerance and cannot be eliminated completely. The structural nonlinearity has an effect on the static and dynamic characteristics of the control fin. Therefore, it is necessary to establish the accurate nonlinear model for the hinge of the control fin. In the present study the existence of nonlinearities in the hinge is confirmed from the frequency response experiments such as tip random excitation and base sine sweep. Using the system identification method, especially, “Force-State Mapping Technique”, the types of nonlinearities are identified and the nonlinear hinge model of the control fin is established.

This paper deals with the development of dynamic equivalents of the Korea Electric Corporation (KEPCO) systems. Several coherency identification methods are studied in order to find a proper method to well represent the dynamic characteristics of the KEPCO system. Also, this paper presents the comparison of the detail and classical aggregation methods in terms of the dynamic and static characteristics of the system. The nonlinear time simulation of the developed KEPCO equivalent system and the original system is performed to illustrate the validity of the equivalent system.

The purpose of this study is to survey input data error of ship automatic identification system (AIS) and suggest its improvement. The effects of AIS were observed. Input data error of AIS was investigated by dividing it into dynamic data, static data by targeting actual ships and its improvement method was suggested. The findings are as follows. Looking into accidents before and after AIS is enforced to install on the ship, total collision were decreased after AIS installed. Static data error of AIS took place mainly in the case that ship name, call sign, MMSI, IMO number, ship type, location of antenna (ship length and width) were wrongly input or those data were not input initially. Dynamic data error of AIS was represented by input error of ship's heading. As errors of voyage related data take place as well, confusion is made in sailing or ship condition. Counter measures against the above are as follows. First, reliability of AIS data information should be improved. Second, incessant concern and management should be made on the navigation officers.

Most of mechanical structures are composed of many substructures connected to one another by various types of mechanical joints. In automotive engineering, it is important to study these connected structures under various dynamic forces for the evaluations of fatigue life and stress concentration exactly. In this study, the dynamic response of vehicle structure to external forces is classified an inverse problem involving strains from the experiment and the analysis. The practical dynamic forces are determined by the combination of the analytical and experimental method with analyzed strain by quasi-static finite element analysis under unit force and with measured strain by a strain gage under driving load, respectively. In a stressed body, inter-molecular chemical bonds are failed beyond the certain magnitude. The failure of molecular structure in material is considered as a time process of which rate is determined by mechanical stress. That is, the failure of inter-molecular chemical bonds is the fatigue lift of material. This kinetic concept is expressed as lethargy coefficient. And S-N curve is obtained with the lethargy coefficient from quasi-static tensile test. Equivalent practical dynamic force is obtained from the identification of practical dynamic force for one loading point. Using the practical dynamic force and S-N curve, fatigue life of a window pillar is analyzed with FEM under the identified force by the procedure of above mentioned.

In this study, vortex tube system model is developed to predict the temperature of the hot and the cold sides. The vortex tube model is developed based on the system identification method, and the model utilized in this work to design the vortex tube is ARX type (Auto-Regressive with eXtra inputs). The derived polynomial model is validated against experimental data to verify the overall model accuracy. It is also shown that the derived model passes the stability test. It is confirmed that the derived model closely mimics the physical behavior of the vortex tube from both the static and dynamic numerical experiments by changing the angles of the low-temperature side throttle valve, clearly showing temperature separation. These results imply that the system identification based modeling can be a promising approach for the prediction of complex physical systems, including the vortex tube.
A clear correlation exists between the compressive strength and elastic modulus of concrete. Unfortunately, determining the static elastic modulus requires destructive methods and determining the dynamic elastic modulus is greatly complicated by the shape and size of the specimens. This paper reports on a novel approach to the prediction of compressive strength in concrete cylinders using numerical calculations in conjunction with the impact-echo method. This non-destructive technique involves obtaining the speeds of P-waves and S-waves using correction factors through numerical calculation based on frequencies measured using the impact-echo method. This approach makes it possible to calculate the dynamic elastic modulus with relative ease, thereby enabling the prediction of compressive strength. Experiment results demonstrate the speed, convenience, and efficacy of the proposed method.

When acquiring a product having an OS, it is very important to identify the exact kernel version of the OS. This is because the product's administrator needs to keep checking whether a new vulnerability is found in the kernel version. Also, if there is an acquisition requirement for exclusion or inclusion of a specific kernel version, the kernel identification becomes critical to the acquisition decision. In the case of the Linux kernel used in various equipment, sometimes it becomes difficult to pinpoint the device's exact version. The reason is that many manufacturers often modify the kernel to produce their own firmware optimized for their device. Furthermore, if a kernel patch is applied to the modified kernel, it will be very different from its base kernel. Therefore, it is hard to identify the Linux kernel accurately by simple methods such as a specific file existence test. In this paper, we propose a static method to classify a specific kernel version by analyzing function names stored in the symbol table. In an experiment with 100 Linux devices, we correctly identified the Linux kernel version with 99% accuracy.
High-speed turbomachinery implements gas foil bearings (GFBs) due to their distinctive advantages, such as high efficiency, lesser part count, and lower weight. This paper provides the test results of the static structural stiffnesses and loss factors of bump-type foil thrust bearings with increasing preload and bearing deflection. The focus of the current work is to experimentally quantify variability in structural stiffnesses and loss factors among the four test thrust bearings with identical design values and material of the bump and top foil geometries using the same (open-source) fabrication method. A simple test setup, using a rigidly mounted non-rotating shaft and thrust disk, measures the bearing bump deflections with increasing static loads on the test bearing. The inner and outer diameters of the test bearings are 41 mm and 81 mm, respectively. The loss factor, best-representing energy dissipation in the test bearings, is estimated from the area inside the local hysteresis loop of the load versus the bearing deflection curve. The measurements show that structural stiffnesses and loss factors of the test bearings significantly rely on applied preloads and bearing deflections. Local structural stiffnesses of the test bearings increase with applied preloads but decrease with bearing deflections. Changes of loss factors are less sensitive to applied preloads and bearing deflections compared to those of structural stiffnesses. Up to 35% variability in static load structural stiffnesses is found between bearings, while up to 30% variability in loss factors is found between bearings.

In this paper, Our proposed Multipurpose Complex Card UHF band RFID small-size Tag antenna. Multi purpose Complex Card UHF band RFID small-size Tag antenna that is to minimize the low efficiency of RFID Tag Read Range that generates space limitation and a conductor surrounded by inducing fingerpring system with dual(HF, UHF) Card is presented. Our proposed UHF band RFID small-size Tag antenna is for the Multipurpose Complex Card that is mounted on the fingerpring system as well as the HF Tag. It also enables to minimize and facilitates Tag chip matching by adjusting Tapered, Meander line and Loop structure. Given the card substance properties and periphery circuit, the proposed small-size Tag antenna, in this report, is designed with PET film with size of $50{\times}15mm^2$. The RFID small-size Tag method for measurements is used by EPCglobal Static Test instrument in Anechoic Chamber, which is tested with dual Card, within the car and in wallet. It is found that Read Range is 3.8m from the EPCglobal Static Test, Maximum Read Range within the car from the field test results in 7.6m. Proposed Tag antenna is will be used in the parking control security system.
We propose a new Dynamic Multilayer Perceptorn(DMP) architecture for optimal model identification of complex and nonlinear system in this paper. The proposed DMP scheme is presented as the generic and advanced type based on the GMDH(Group Method of Data Handling) method for the limitation of GMDH under only two system input variables. It is worth stressing that the number of the layers and the nodes in each layer of the DMP are not predetermined, unlike in the case of the popular multilayer perceptron structure, but these are generated in a dynamic manner. The experimental part of the study comes with representative nonlinear static system. Comparative analysis is included and shows that a new DMP can produce the model with higher accuracy than previous other works.
