The present work utilizes system identification technique for health monitoring of shear building, wherein Parametric State Space modeling has been adopted. The method requires input excitation to the structure and also output acceleration responses of both undamaged and damaged structure obtained from numerically simulated model. Modal parameters like eigen frequencies and eigen vectors have been extracted from the State Space model after introducing appropriate transformation. Least square technique has been utilized for the evaluation of the stiffness matrix after having obtained the modal matrix for the entire structure. Highly accurate values of stiffness of the structure could be evaluated corresponding to both the undamaged as well as damaged state of a structure, while considering noise in the simulated output response analogous to real time scenario. The damaged floor could also be located very conveniently and accurately by this adopted strategy. This method of damage detection can be applied in case of output acceleration responses recorded by sensors from the actual structure. Further, in case of even limited availability of sensors along the height of a multi-storeyed building, the methodology could yield very accurate information related to structural stiffness.
The purpose of current study was to investigate the effects of Ki-therapy which improves mood state and relieves pain on the elderly with chronic illness. The subjects were 42 elderly and convenience sampling(incidental sampling) was used to prevent contamination to the control group. Frequency, %, $X^2$, t-test, and repeated measure ANOVA by SPSS PC + program were used to analyze the data. The mean age of subjects was 72.95(Control group), 73.10(experimental group). Number of complains was 2.45(control group), 2.65 (experimental group). All of demographic characteristics of subjects. that is, age, weight. number of complains. educational background. family type. economic state, perceived health state were homogeneous. There are many difficulties in ADL & IADL. 14.2% in shopping, mode of transportation, ability to handle finances. 11.9% in ability to use telephone. continence, 7.1% in bathing, food preparation, transfer, and housekeeping. As the result of this study. slight improvement of mood state and pain relief were found. Although 3 improved items of 'clear-headed', 'lively', and 'nervous' were statistically significant. the pain relief was not statistically significant. It requires repeated treatment and measurement. And suggested case study or qualitative study in further studies because manufacturing of environment(i. e. rain) is very difficult in community people.

Paralytic ileus is a metabolic state in which the intestines fail to transmit peristalsis due to failure of the neuromuscular mechanism in the small intestines and colon. It is a major cause of morbidity in hospitalized patients especially during late presentations and points of mismanagement. The causes include infections, electrolyte imbalance (hypokalemia, hyponatremia), surgeries and medications. When the exact cause of the disease condition is identified and corrected, paralytic ileus is usually resolved. This case report is that of a 16 year old female who was admitted and managed as a case of paralytic ileus. The patient presented with symptoms of fever, abdominal pain, abdominal distension, vomiting and inability to pass stool or flatus. There was associated body weakness, reduced urine output and weight loss. She was properly examined clinically and sent for various investigations. Investigations such plain abdominal X-Ray, serum electrolyte estimation, chest X-Ray and full blood count were carried out. The results of the investigations done were in keeping with the diagnosis of paralytic ileus, electrolyte imbalance and ongoing sepsis. She was subsequently managed through nil per oral, adequate fluid rehydration, antibiotics and correction of electrolyte imbalance. Following stable clinical state and investigation results, she was discharged and advised on follow-up.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of line dance program on muscle strength, balance, flexibility, pain, and mood state in post-menopausal women. Methods: A quasi-experimental research design (one group pretest-posttest) was employed. A total of 13 post-menopausal women completed 12-week line dance program(60min/day, 2days/wk) in S city. Descriptive statistics, Wilcoxon signed rank test were used in the data analysis by SPSS 18.0. Results: Muscle strength and balance were higher, and pain level were lower than before the line dance program. However, flexibility and mood state were not significantly changed after the line dance program. Conclusion: Findings of this study indicated that the 12-week line dance program were effective on muscle strength, balance, and pain relief in the post-menopausal women. Future study is needed to explore the effect of the line dance program on flexibility and mood state with the post-menopausal women.

This study was designed and undertaken to find out the degree of powerlessness, perception of health and cognitive level of elderly home residents and to determine the factors influencing powerlessness, perception of health and cognitive level. The data were collected from October 1st to 20th, 1998. The subjects in this study were 271 elderly home residents over the age 60 living in Taejon city. The study tool for measuring powerlessness was developed by S.E. Chung(1998), the other for measuring perception of health was a self-rating scale defined by Mossey & Shapiro (1982), and the tool for measuring cognitive level was developed by Kahn, Goldfarb, Pollack and Peck(1960). Data were analysed for percentage, mean, t-test, and ANOVA using the SPSS program. The results of this study were as follows ; 1. The degree of powerlessness, perception of health and cognitive level was scored above the median. 2. The degree of the elderly' powerlessness was statistically significantly different in three demographic variables; sex, one's state of health compared to other elderly' and living expense load. 3. Perception of one's health was statistically significantly different in four demographic variables; sex, marital status, educational level and monthly money. 4. Cognitive level of the elderly was statistically significantly different in three demographic variables; age, educational level and one's health of state compared to other elderly' health. In conclusion, the factors influencing the elderly' powerlessness, perception of health and cognitive level generally were age, sex, their economic independence, marital status, and educational level. Also, this study indicates that social welfare for the elderly could be effective in reducing their powerlessness and enhancing their health of state and cognitive level.
This study is aimed at developing an index and indicator in the light of social factors by analyzing the basic materials on Korean working conditions survey to make it possible to grasp various working environment factors consequent on business type and to judge the industrial safety & health policy of the related area. For the purpose of developing an index, this study was conducted by benchmarking the OECD-suggested index development guidelines and overseas cases of index development. This study suggested indexes related to health by benchmarking OECD's press-state-response model. The press-state health-related indexes specified in Korean working condtions survey were found to consist of physical risk environment, working hours, business environment, and social environment, and its consequent 'state' items were comprised of mental health, physical health, absence from work due to health problems and work satisfaction as health-related items. As a result, it was found that the 'press-state index' for wage worker, regular employee, manager, clerks, expert & related personnel involved, and workers aged under 50 was relatively good; in contrast, the 'press-state index' for people aged over 50, owner-operator, daily job, skilled position in agriculture & fisheries, simple labor service, and apparatus & machines assembly worker was found to be relatively vulnerable.
The finance of the National Health Insurance(NHI) in nearly every Nation in the world has been traditionally based on premiums of the workers and employers. But in Korea, the government has been guaranteeing financial supports to regional health corporations. After the unification of the different corporations in the NHIC, the government will not have to give financial support to the NHIC. Then this will be a serious financial challenge to NHIC, which has usually had financial deficit. The purpose of this paper is to review the problems of the premium based financing of the NHI and to exam whether such problems will be solved through the financial support from the state to the NHI. The analysis in this paper focused on five viewpoints; 1) work relatedness 2) redistribution effect 3) financial burden of business firms through the premium 4) risk pooling 5) management hegemony of the NHI. As a result, it was found that there are many problems in every five aspects and these problems could be solve through the financial aid from the state. But, it does not without any restriction mean to suggest that the financing mode of the korean NHI should be wholly transformed to a tax based financing mode. Because there are many things to be considered in oder to alter the financing mode of the NHI. Nevertheless, this paper would give a logical background to enlarge the financial aid form the state to NHI, or at least, to maintain it at a present level.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the relational between elderly women's sex-role attitude and their marital satisfaction. For this purpose, a questionnaire was surveyed 186 elderly women living in Kwangiu and Chonnam. The collected data were analyzed by using frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, ANOVA and stepwise regression analysis. The results of this research were as follows ; First The total points of the elderly women's sex-role attitude score was 16.4, which was represented mixed trends of traditional and modem. And the total points of the elderly women's marital satisfaction score was 31.6, which was higher than the median 30. Second, Elderly women's sex-role attitude score was meaningfully different according to education level, health state, economic state. And elderly women's marital satisfaction score was meaningfully different according to social activity, economic state, health state, education level, age. Third, As the results of regression analysis, it was shown that the highest influencing variable on their marital satisfaction was the social activity, economic state, education level. All of them explained 19% of their marital satisfaction. (Korean J Human Ecology 1(2):48-60, 1998)

The home visiting health nurses are important man-power who can serve various and persistent rehabilitation care to disabled person in community. The Community Based Rehabilition project(CBR) of national rehabilition center have been carried out from 1995. As a part of that project national health center performed rehabilition education program for home visiting health nurses. The purpose of this study is to analysis the effect of this education. In the first stage all of those groups were educated for two weeks in national rehabilitation center. But only two group nurses, one is in a urban and the other in a rural community, have been educated continually in the field through discussing rehabilitation care case study. The data in this study were gathered from three group healh nurses and analysed by SAS computer program. The results about knowledge, attitude and practice changes of the three group nurses were as follows. 1. In the pre education state the mean point of all nurses' attitude for rehabilition was 59, but in the post education state that was 90. The difference between pre and post attitude is very significant(t=-14.1. p<0.0001l). 2. In the pre education state the mean point of all nurses' knowledge for rehabilition was 45, but in the post education state that was 78. The difference between pre and post knowledge is very significant(t=-12.7, p<0.000l). 3. In the pre education state the mean point of all nurses' practice for rehabilition care was 37, but in the post education state that was 62. The difference between pre and post practice is very significant(t=-7.3, p<0.000l). 4. In practice point, the two group nurses who have been educated continuously were superior to the other(t=-3.9. p<0.00l). 5. All points between the urban and rural nurses were no significant differences(p>0.l). 6. All changes of the attitude, knowledge and practice did not affected by age(F=0.58, p>0.l). professional career(F=O.61, p>0.l), educational background(F=0.97, p>0.l).
