During the last decade, high-resolution spectra of many very metal-poor (VMP) stars have been observed and their surface compositions have been measured. The abundance patterns of the VMP stars strongly constrain the nucleosynthesis of Pop III stars because they born from material enriched by supernovae or wind ejecta of Pop III stars. The observations show overabundances of light elements like C, N, O, Na, Mg and Al and very low $C^{12}/C^{13}$ ratios. These results indicate that mixing between the H-burning and He-burning region occurred in Pop III stars. To explain these observational results, we performed 1D stellar evolution simulations for non-rotating Pop III stars with ZAMS masses ranging from $20M_{\Box}$ to $50M_{\Box}$ and various overshooting parameters. In our grid calculation, convective mixing between helium burning layers and the hydrogen burning shell generally occurred in models with masses less than $40M_{\Box}$ without rotation and these models show an excess of light element abundances. From this result, it is expected that we could explain the observed abundance patterns with convective mixing in non-rotating massive Pop III stars and we do not necessarily have to invoke rotational mixing.

The purpose of this study was to develop a period analysis algorithm for detecting new variable stars in the time-series data observed by charge coupled device (CCD). We used the data from a variable star monitoring program of the CBNUO. The R filter data of some magnetic cataclysmic variables observed for more than 20 days were chosen to achieve good statistical results. World Coordinate System (WCS) Tools was used to correct the rotation of the observed images and assign the same IDs to the stars included in the analyzed areas. The developed algorithm was applied to the data of DO Dra, TT Ari, RXSJ1803, and MU Cam. In these fields, we found 13 variable stars, five of which were new variable stars not previously reported. Our period analysis algorithm were tested in the case of observation data mixed with various fields of view because the observations were carried with 2K CCD as well as 4K CCD at the CBNUO. Our results show that variable stars can be detected using our algorithm even with observational data for which the field of view has changed. Our algorithm is useful to detect new variable stars and analyze them based on existing time-series data. The developed algorithm can play an important role as a recycling technique for used data
We have reviewed the magnetic activity in close binaries. Solar like magnetic activity indicators such as photometric spots, chromo spheric emission, coronal X-ray and radio emission, and flare activity are commonplace in many cool stars with convective envelopes. Using the UV spectra we confirmed the strength of stellar activity increases with more rapid rotation and later spectral types which corresponds to the increasing depth of the star's convective envelope. Apart from very young stellar objects such as T Tauri stars, the stars with the highest levels of activity are close binary systems composed of cool stars, i.e., the chromospherically active binaries such as RS CVn, BY Dra, W UMa and related systems. The IUE low and high dispersion spectra of V711 Tau, VW Cep and SW Lac are used for ultraviolet photometry and for a variation study of chromospheric activity. Evidence of chromospherically activity is indicated by the intensity variation of the Mg II emission line with orbital phase.
We present the dependence of halo properties on two different Galactic potentials: the $St{\ddot{a}}ckel$ potential and the Milky Way-like potential known as "Galpy". Making use of the Sloan Digital Sky Survey Data Release 12 (SDSS DR12), we find that the shape of the metallicity distribution and rotation velocity distribution abruptly changes at 15 kpc of $Z_{max}$ (the maximum distance of stellar orbit above or below the Galactic plane) and 32 kpc of $r_{max}$ (the maximum distance of an orbit from the Galactic center) in the $St{\ddot{a}}ckel$, which indicates that the transition from the inner to outer halo occurs at those distances. When adopting the $St{\ddot{a}}ckel$ potential, stars with $Z_{max}$ > 15 kpc show a retrograde motion of $V_{\phi}=-60km\;s^{-1}$, while stars with $r_{max}$ > 32 kpc show $V_{\phi}=-150km\;s^{-1}$. If we impose $V_{\phi}$ < $-150km\;s^{-1}$ to the stars with $Z_{max}$> 15 kpc or $r_{max}$> 32, we obtain the peak of the metallicity distribution at [Fe/H] = -1.9 and -1.7 respectively. However, there is the transition of the metallicity distribution at $Z_{max}=25kpc$, whereas there is no noticeable retrograde motion in the Galpy. The reason for this is that stars with high retrograde motion in the $St{\ddot{a}}ckel$ potential are unbound and stars with low rotation velocity reach to larger region of $Z_{max}$ and $r_{max}$ due to shallower potential in the Galpy. These results prove that as the adopted Galactic potential can affect the interpretation of the halo properties, it is required to have a more realistic Galactic potential for the thorough understanding of the dichotomy of the Galactic halo.
We present chemical and kinematic properties of the Milky Way's halo system investigated by carbon-enhanced metal-poor (CEMP) stars identified from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey. We first map out fractions of CEMP-no stars (those having no over-abundances of neutron-capture elements) and CEMP-s stars (those with over-enhancements of the s-process elements) in the inner- and outer-halo populations, separated by their spatial distribution of carbonicity ([C/Fe]). Among CEMP stars, the CEMP-no and CEMP-s objects are classified by different levels of absolute carbon abundances, A(C). We investigate characteristics of rotation velocity and orbital eccentric for these subclasses for each halo population. Any distinct kinematic features identified between the two categories in each halo region provide important clues on the origin of the dichotomy of the Galactic halo.
Neutron stars (NS) are rapidly spinning compact objects. Their rotation energy is released by particles, electromagnetic waves, and even gravitational waves. The source of the energy is of course the rotation, so by studying the rotational properties of neutron stars, we can gain some insights into matter under extreme conditions. In particular, it is known that the braking index n is sensitive to the moment of inertia and/or NS winds. The neutron star PSR B0540-69 exhibits interesting timing behavior; previous measurements of the braking index for this pulsar may suggest a change in time. In order to see if the change is real, We investigate the timing properties of B0540-69 using recent ~1000-days Swift satellite data.
We report the result of a high-resolution spectroscopic study on seven magnesium (Mg) enhanced stars. The high Mg abundances in these stars imply that they were born in an environment heavily affected by the nucleosynthesis products of massive stars. We measure abundances of 16 elements including Mg and they show various abundance patterns implying their diverse origin. Three of our program stars show a very high Mg to Si ratio ([Mg/Si] ≈ 0.18-0.25), which might be well explained by fall-back supernovae or by supernovae with rapid rotating progenitors having an initial mass higher than about 20 M⊙. Another three of our program stars have high light to heavy s-process element ratios ([Y/Ba] ≈ 0.30-0.44), which are consistent with the theoretical prediction of the nucleosynthesis in rapidly rotating massive stars with an initial mass of about M = 40 M⊙. We also report a star having both high Y ([Y/Fe] = 0.2) and Ba ([Ba/Fe] = 0.28) abundance ratios, and it also shows the highest Zn abundance ratio ([Zn/Fe] = 0.27) among our sample, implying the nucleosynthesis by asymmetric supernova explosion induced by very rapid rotation of a massive progenitor having an initial mass between 20 M⊙ ≲ M ≲ 40 M⊙. A relative deficiency of odd-number elements, which would be a signature of the pair-instability nucleosynthesis, is not found in our sample.
