  • Navigational equipment standardization mode is a function which is used to standardize key functions, screen display and operation method of major navigation equipment. This is aimed towards to quickly and accurately checking information relevant for safe navigation. Currently, the International Maritime Organization is working on the development of guidelines for the application of navigational equipment in the standardized mode to the task of NCSR Sub-Committee. This study was conducted to investigate users' opinions and preferences in the application of standardization modes and to reflect them in the development of guidelines. In addition, the test program was designed to investigate user preferences for ECDIS among the navigational equipment, such as the types of information and functions that are necessary or preferentially required to perform navigational duties, and the screen configuration. In the study, 333 preference surveys were conducted in 35 countries using a web - based test program. ECDIS users confirmed the content and screen layout of their preferred ECDIS information when conducting navigation duty. The results of the study are significant as they contribute to the development of effective guidelines by presenting user requirements to be considered in the standardization mode.

  • This article reports that a testee's content schemata have detrimental effects on the validity of standardized reading comprehension tests. in case that the reading passages constitute his prior background knowledge framed by regular academic pursuits focused on a major field of study. The empirical research findings on such a reliability issue have shown that the Korean subjects' familiarity with the content domain of the reading materials may substantially enhance their test performance, operated as unfair advantages over the other participants at the same level of English proficiency who do not possess technical knowledge closely related to the contents of the test passages. Based on these results, it may be argued that the reading text should be composed of maximally neutral contents to every testee to avoid the possible overlapping between a test-taker's content schemata and the content domain of the materials. Therefore, this article claims that the tenets of schema theory with its long-standing foundation on culturally predetermined content and formal schemata need to be expanded to cover professional knowledge structures, like those acquired by higher education, as the hard-wired framework of an individual's original culture-specific background knowledge.

  • The article presents the statistical method of grouping the results of the compressive strength of concrete in continuous production. It describes the method of dividing the series of compressive strength results into batches of statistically stable strength parameters at specific time intervals, based on the standardized concept of "concrete family". The article presents the examples of calculations made for two series of concrete strength results, from which sets of decreased strength parameters were separated. When assessing the quality of concrete elements and concrete road surfaces, the principal issue is the control of the compressive strength parameters of concrete. Large quantities of concrete mix manufactured in a continuous way should be subject to continuous control. Standardized approach to assessing the concrete strength proves to be insufficient because it does not allow for the detection of subsets of the decreased strength results, which in turn makes it impossible to make adjustments to the concrete manufacturing process and to identify particular product or area on site with decreased concrete strength. In this article two independent methods of grouping the test results of concrete with statistically stable strength parameters were proposed, involving verification of statistical hypothesis based on statistical tests: Student's t-test and Mann - Whitney - U test.

  • Purpose: The main purpose of this study was to examine the effectiveness of a standardized telephone monitoring intervention in addressing the symptom experience and improving self-management ability in patients with heart failure. Methods: A non-equivalent control group pre-post test design was used. There were 17 patients in the experimental group, and 16 in the control group. According to the protocol, patients in the experimental group received 15 to 30 minute-telephone monitoring four times, once a week for 4 weeks. Data were analyzed by ${\chi}^2$-test, Mann-Whitney U test. Results: 1) The experimental group showed a significant increase in compliance with self-management compared to the control group. 2) There was a significant decrease in degree for 3 symptoms(DOE, PND, & continuing fatigue) in the experimental group, after telephone monitoring. However, the experimental group did not show significant decrease in the degree of the total symptom experiences. Conclusions: The results of this study provide evidence that standardized telephone monitoring is effective in relieving symptom experience and improving self-management in patients with heart failure over the course of telephone monitoring.

  • Evaporation from surface water bodies is influenced by a number of meteorological parameters. The rate of evaporation is primarily controlled by incoming solar radiation, air and water temperature and wind speed and relative humidity. In the present study, influence of weekly meteorological variables such as air temperature, relative humidity, bright sunshine hours, wind speed, wind velocity, rainfall on rate of evaporation has been examined using 35 years(1971-2005) of meteorological data. Statistical analysis was carried out employing linear regression models. The developed regression models were tested for goodness of fit, multicollinearity along with normality test and constant variance test. These regression models were subsequently validated using the observed and predicted parameter estimates with the meteorological data of the year 2005. Further these models were checked with time order sequence of residual plots to identify the trend of the scatter plot and then new standardized regression models were developed using standardized equations. The highest significant positive correlation was observed between pan evaporation and maximum air temperature. Mean air temperature and wind velocity have highly significant influence on pan evaporation whereas minimum air temperature, relative humidity and wind direction have no such significant influence.

  • The study explored droughts using the Standardized Precipitation Index (SPI) in the northwestern region of Bangladesh, which is the drought prone area. In order to assess the trend and variability of monthly rainfall, as well as 3-month scale SPI, non-parametric Mann-Kendall (MK) tests and continuous wavelet transform were used respectively. The effect of climatic parameters on the drought in this region was also evaluated using SPI, with the Southern Oscilation Index (SOI) by means of the wavelet coherence technique, a relatively new and powerful tool for describing processes. The MK test showed no statistically significant monthly rainfall trends in the selected stations, whereas the seasonal MK test showed a declining rainfall trend in Bogra, Ishurdi, Rangpur and Sayedpur stations respectively. Sen's slope of six stations also provided a decreasing rainfall trend. The trend of the SPI, as well as Sen's slope indicated an increasing dryness trend in this area. Dominant periodicity of 3-month scale SPI at 8 to 16 months, 16 to 32 months, and 32 to 64 months were observed in the study area. The outcomes from this study contribute to hydrologists to establish strategies, priorities and proper use of water resources.

  • The oxygen solubilized device(O.S.D) and standardized microorganism culture system is more efficient than physical and chemical purification techniques in closed water. This study was to determine how the O.S.D and standardized culture system is efficient in purification capacity in closed water based on the lab scale and pilot plant. In the batch test, inducing the quantitative results from pilot plant operation condition, removal efficiency of COD and TN were about 48.3% and 35% respectively, while SS and chlorophyll-a were 94.9% and 68.7%. The pilot plant results showed that suspended solid(SS) and chlorophyll-a removal efficiency were 60% and 59% respectively, due to coagulation characteristics by standardized culture. Total nitrogen(TN) and total phosphorus(TP)showed good effect for the purification of target pond water quality from field data. Additionally, released velocity was determined in control condition of $5.31mgPO{_4}^{3-}{\cdot}m^{-2}{\cdot}day^{-1}$ and $2486.8mgCOD{\cdot}m^{-2}{\cdot}day^{-1}$. Otherwise, phosphate and COD reflux in the aeration and microorganism condition was showed $-9.95mgPO{_4}^{3-}{\cdot}m^{-2}{\cdot}day^{-1}$ and $-397.88mgCOD{\cdot}m^{-2}{\cdot}day^{-1}$. This technology is the most effective not only removal of SS and chlorophyll-a but also control of phosphate and COD release which is very important phenomena in evaluating water quality in closed water like a reservoir and pond.

  • TMN(Telecommunication Management Network) provides underlying structure to transfer, store and processing management information which are necessary for Telecommunication network and service management. The application of TMN is widely applicable to Analogue telecommunication network Public and private network switching system, Transmission system, Telecommunication related software and logical telecommunication network resource management and others. This paper consider TMN as one System Under Test(SW), and propose a new TMN test architecture, besides existing simulation based test method, which is able to test, on the basis of standardized testing procedure and testing method, directly with test system. There are several fields in protocol testing and one of them is protocol conformance testing which is defined in ISO/IEC 9646 series and it has twin document as ITU X.290 series. To apply this standardized procedure on TMN testing it is prerequisite to devise a new TMN testing architecture and set up testing procedures according to the new architecture.

  • This paper describes a method of AAL(SSCOP) protocol conformance testing and its result analysis in ATM network. Terminal equipment(TE) that implements protocols for connecting ATM network shall be verified if appropriately implement by conformance testing. The protocol specifications and the testing methodology are recommended or standardized by international standardization organization(ITU-T, ISO, etc.). The ATM AAL (SSCOP) protocol which selected for describing conformance test procedure is standardized in ITU-T Q.2110 and ATM Forum UNI 3.1 which are same in contents. Also Testing standard like ATS for SSCOP is specified in ATM Forum 95-1459R2. Construction of conformance testing environment is necessary to coordinate in relations with standards, then testing must beexecuted at that environment and the results from the test system analyzed. For this, it is necessary to select any test case from standard for testing and to make ETS. The ETS is proted on the test system and conformance testing will execute on that system. Finally the result from the test system is to analyze. This conformance testing procedure is applicable to the same other test cases in SSCOP and protocols in any communcation networks.

  • Recently, the number of those who were transplanted cochlear implants increased as health insurance increases has expanded. Last six years between 2005 to 2009, patients who received a cochlear implant surgery were about 3,300 and number of cochlear implants in adults of them have shown growing aspects. In the case of young children, they actively participated auditory training program after cochlear implant surgery and the studies related to auditory training in child are many, but the studies related to auditory training in adults is insufficient. In this study, we perform the auditory training for the female adult (age 54) received cochlear implant after language acquisition used Ling 6 sounds test, standardized consonants, vowels and sentences listening test and word recognition and confirmation test. As a result after auditory training for 10 weeks, she identified all phonemes in Ling 6 sound test and performed close to 100% in standardized consonants, vowels and sentences listening tests. Also, she improved the ability of real-world environmental sound and real-world words identifications by 57-95%. The results of this study showed the need of auditory training program with systematic and effective planning and considering the characteristics of the individual for adults.
