Ultastructural Characteristics of Necrosis and Stunt Disease in Red Pepper by the Mixed Infections of Tobacco mosaic virus or Pepper mild mottle virus and Pepper mottle virus.

  • The commercial cultivars of red pepper were screened against Tobacco mosaic virus (TMV), Pepper mild mottle virus (PMMoV) and Pepper mottle virus (PepMoV) by seedling test. Tn single infection of TMV or PMMoV, mosaic symptom was produced on the cultivars of 'Cheongyang'and 'Wangshilgun'. However, in cultivars of 'Manilla'and 'Bugang', symptoms were not occurred. In single infection of PepMoV, symptoms of mottle and malformation were produced on the tested cultivars of 'Manilla', 'Bugang', 'Cheongyang'and 'Wangshilgun' In the cultivars of 'Cheongyang'and 'Wangshilgun', synergistic symptoms of stunt and lethal death were induced by mixed infections in the two combinations of TMV+PepMoV and PMMoV+PepMoV. However, in cultivars of 'Manilla'and 'Bugang', synergistic symptom was not occurred as mottle which was milder than that of single infection. Cells were single infected with TMV and PMMoV the cultivars of 'Cheongyang'and 'Wangshilgun', respectively, had typical ultrastructures of tobamovirus as the stacked-band structure and multiple spiral aggregate (SA). Ultrastructures of cell and tissues infected with PepMoV on the cultivars of 'Cheongyang', 'Wangshilgun', 'Manilla'and 'Bugang', the potyvirus inclusions of pinwhills, scrolls, lamminated aggregates and amorphous inclusion were observed. Infected cells with a combination of TMV+PepMoV and PMMoV+PepMoV, the virus particles and inclusions of the two different viruses were found only mixed infection in the same cytoplasm and the amounts of viruses in mixed infections were abundant than in single infection. 대기압 플라즈마 제트를 이용한 실버페이스트 전극의 표면처리 (Surface treatment of silver-paste electrode by atmospheric-pressure plasma-jet)

  • 실버 페이스트는 상대적으로 낮은 열처리로 공정이 가능하기 때문에 전자 소자 응용분야에서 유용한 전극 재료이다. 본 연구에서는 은 페이스트 전극에 대기압 플라즈마 제트를 이용하여 전극 표면을 처리 했다. 이 플라즈마 제트는 11.5 kHz 작동 주파수에서 5.5 ~ 6.5 kV의 고전압을 사용하여 아르곤 분위기에서 생성되었다. 플라즈마 제트는 대기압에서 수행함으로써 인쇄 공정에 더 유용할 수 있다. 플라즈마 처리시간, 인가된 전압, 가스유량에 따라 전극의 표면은 빠르게 친수성화 되었으며 접촉각의 변화가 관찰되었다. 또한, 대면적 샘플에서 플라즈마 처리 후 접촉각의 편차가 없었는데, 이는 기판의 크기에 관계없이 균일한 결과를 얻을 수 있었다는 것을 의미한다. 본 연구의 결과는 대면적 전자소자의 제조 및 향후 응용 분야에서 적층 구조를 형성하는데 매우 유용할 것으로 기대된다.

Development of Microfluidic Radioimmunoassay Platform for High-throughput Analysis with Reduced Radioactive Waste

  • Microfluidic radioimmunoassay (RIA) platform called µ-RIA spends less reagent and shorter reaction time for the analysis compared to the conventional tube-based radioimmunoassay. This study reported the design of µ-RIA chips optimized for the gamma counter which could measure the small samples of radioactive materials automatically. Compared with the previous study, the µ-RIA chips developed in this study were designed to be compatible with conventional RIA test tubes. And, the automatic gamma counter could detect radioactivity from the 125I labeled anti-PSA attached to the chips. Effects of the multi-layer microchannels and two-phase flow in the µ-RIA chips were investigated in this study. The measured radioactivity from the 125I labeled anti-PSA was linearly proportional to the number of stacked chips, representing that the radioactivity in µ-RIA platform could be amplified by designing the chips with multi-layers. In addition, we designed µ-RIA chip to generate liquid-gas plug flow inside the microfluidic channel. The plug flow can promote binding of the biomolecules onto the microfluidic channel surface with recirculation in the liquid phase. The ratio of liquid slug and air slug length was 1 : 1 when the 125I labeled anti-PSA and the air were injected at 1 and 35 µL/min, respectively, exhibiting 1.6 times higher biomolecule attachment compared to the microfluidic chip without the air injection. This experimental result indicated that the biomolecular reaction was improved by generating liquid-gas slugs inside the microfluidic channel. In this study, we presented a novel µ-RIA chips that is compatible with the conventional gamma counter with automated sampler. Therefore, high-throughput radioimmunoassay can be carried out by the automatic measurement of radioactivity with reduced radiowaste generation. We expect the µ-RIA platform can successfully replace conventional tube-based radioimmunoassay in the future.

A Study on Floor Impact Sound Insulation Performance of Cross-Laminated Timber (CLT): Focused on Joint Types, Species and Thicknesses

  • In this study, the floor impact sound insulation performance of Korean domestic Cross-Laminated Timber (CLT) slabs was evaluated according to their joint types, species and thicknesses in laboratory experiments. The sound insulation performance of the CLT has not been investigated before, thus, this study was conducted to quantify basic data on floor impact sound insulation performance of CLT slabs. 5-ply and 150 mm thick CLT panels made of 2 species, Larix kaempferi and Pinus densiflora, were used for the study. The CLT panels were assembled by 3 types of inter-panel joints to form floor slabs: spline, butt and half-lap. And the 150 mm thick Larix CLT slabs were stacked to the thicknesses of 300 mm and 450 mm. The heavy-weight floor impact sound insulation performance of the 150 mm CLT slabs were evaluated to be 70 dB for the Larix slabs and 71.6 dB for the Pinus slabs, and the light-weight floor impact sound insulation performance, 78.3 dB and 79.6 dB, respectively. No significant difference in the sound insulation performance was found between the slabs of the 2 species or among the 3 types of joints. The reduction of 1 dB in the heavy-weight floor impact sound and 1.6 dB in the light-weight floor impact sound per 30 mm increase in thickness were confirmed through the experiments. This study can be viewed as the basic research for the evaluation of floor impact sound insulation performance of CLT.

초고압 초전도 변압기용 고온 초전도 연속전위도체의 절연특성 (Insulation tests of Continuously Transposed Coated Conductors for a high voltage superconducting transformer)

  • A cryogenic insulation technique for a high voltage and a large current capacity of a conductor are now two big issues in a field of recent R&D projects of superconducting power devices, especially a superconducting power transformer. For the large rated currents of the power transformer, it is well known that lots of 2nd generation superconducting conductor, so called coated conductor, should be stacked together with transpositions in order to get an even distributions of the currents. We had come up with an idea of a CTCC (Continuously Transposed Coated Conductor) as a conductor for a large power superconducting transformer, and keep trying to verify the usefulness of the conductor. As one of the efforts of verifying, we prepared and tested a sample CTCC with insulations for high voltage, which includes the epoxy coating and Nomex$^{(R)}$ wrapping. This paper contains the insulation process and dielectric breakdown test results. We expect the results obtained from this experiment to improve an insulation technique for high voltages in various cryogenic environments[1,2].

  • 건축물의 디자인 자유도 향상, 작업자 안전 향상, 비교적 쉬운 납기예측 등의 이점으로 건설 산업에 적용된 3D 프린팅 기술(Additive manufacturing, AM)은 각종 효과성의 검증과 산업적용이 진행되고 있다. 다만, 기존기술대비 낮은 성숙도로 인해, 건축AM기술의 전주기에 발생하는 새로운 문제들을 해소하기 위한 연구들이 진행 중이다. 본 논문에서는 이러한 문제점 중에서도 현장 환경에 건축물을 적층 시공하는 과정에서, 낮은 시공표면평탄이 적층 제조 형상물에 미치는 영향을 확인한다. 특히 레이저 스캐닝을 통한 3차원 재구성 및 정량 분석을 통해, 낮은 평탄도로 인한 불균일한 적층형상물을 분석하고, 이를 해소하기 위한 적층시공전략을 제안한다.

냉간압연접합된 층상 AA6061/AA5052/AA6061/AA5052 알루미늄합금판재의 미세조직 및 기계적 성질 (Microstructure and Mechanical Properties of Cold Roll-Bonded Layered AA6061/AA5052/AA6061/AA5052 Aluminum Alloy Sheet)

  • A cold roll-bonding process is applied to fabricate an AA6061/AA5052/AA6061/AA5052 layered sheet. Two AA6061 and one AA5052 sheets of 2mm thickness, 40mm width and 300mm length are alternately stacked, then reduced to a thickness of 2.0 mm by multi-pass cold rolling after surface treatment such as degreasing and wire brushing. The rolling is performed at ambient temperature without lubricant using a 2-high mill with a roll diameter of 400 mm at a rolling speed of 6.0 m/sec. The roll-bonded AA6061/AA5052/AA6061/AA5052 layered sheet is then hardened by natural aging (T4) and artificial aging (T6) treatments. The microstructure of the as-roll bonded and the age-hardened Al sheets was revealed by SEM observation; the mechanical properties were investigated by tensile testing and hardness testing. After T4 and T6 aging treatment, the specimens had a recrystallization structure consisting of coarse equiaxed grains in both AA5052 and AA6061 regions. The as-roll-bonded specimen showed a clad structure in which the hardness of AA5052 regions was higher than that of AA6061 regions. However, after T4 and T6 aging treatment, specimens exhibited different structures, with hardness of AA6061 regions higher than that of AA5052 regions. Strengths of T6 and T4 age-treated specimens were found to increase by 1.55 and 1.36 times, respectively, compared to the value of the starting material.

Can AI-generated EUV images be used for determining DEMs of solar corona?

  • In this study, we determinate the differential emission measure(DEM) of solar corona using three SDO/AIA EUV channel images and three AI-generated ones. To generate the AI-generated images, we apply a deep learning model based on multi-layer perceptrons by assuming that all pixels in solar EUV images are independent of one another. For the input data, we use three SDO/AIA EUV channels (171, 193, and 211). For the target data, we use other three SDO/AIA EUV channels (94, 131, and 335). We train the model using 358 pairs of SDO/AIA EUV images at every 00:00 UT in 2011. We use SDO/AIA pixels within 1.2 solar radii to consider not only the solar disk but also above the limb. We apply our model to several brightening patches and loops in SDO/AIA images for the determination of DEMs. Our main results from this study are as follows. First, our model successfully generates three solar EUV channel images using the other three channel images. Second, the noises in the AI-generated EUV channel images are greatly reduced compared to the original target ones. Third, the estimated DEMs using three SDO/AIA images and three AI-generated ones are similar to those using three SDO/AIA images and three stacked (50 frames) ones. These results imply that our deep learning model is able to analyze temperature response functions of SDO/AIA channel images, showing a sufficient possibility that AI-generated data can be used for multi-wavelength studies of various scientific fields. Deep survey using deep learning: generative adversarial network

  • There are a huge number of faint objects that have not been observed due to the lack of large and deep surveys. In this study, we demonstrate that a deep learning approach can produce a better quality deep image from a single pass imaging so that could be an alternative of conventional image stacking technique or the expensive large and deep surveys. Using data from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) stripe 82 which provide repeatedly scanned imaging data, a training data set is constructed: g-, r-, and i-band images of single pass data as an input and r-band co-added image as a target. Out of 151 SDSS fields that have been repeatedly scanned 34 times, 120 fields were used for training and 31 fields for validation. The size of a frame selected for the training is 1k by 1k pixel scale. To avoid possible problems caused by the small number of training sets, frames are randomly selected within that field each iteration of training. Every 5000 iterations of training, the performance were evaluated with RMSE, peak signal-to-noise ratio which is given on logarithmic scale, structural symmetry index (SSIM) and difference in SSIM. We continued the training until a GAN model with the best performance is found. We apply the best GAN-model to NGC0941 located in SDSS stripe 82. By comparing the radial surface brightness and photometry error of images, we found the possibility that this technique could generate a deep image with statistics close to the stacked image from a single-pass image.

Evaluation of Growth and Yield When Harvesting Italian Ryegrass Transplanted After Cultivation of Paddy Rice

  • Seed production of italian ryegrass has a problem of lodging during ripening and a decrease in quality due to difficulty in drying seeds during harvest. Therefore, in order to produce high-quality Italian ryegrass in paddy fields, it was carried out to reduce the density and solve the lodging problem through transplanting. In this experiment, Lolium multiflorum cv. Kowinearly was transplanted in autumn from a paddy field in Sindong-ri, Gwansan-eup, Jangheung-gun, Jeollanam-do. var. Kowinearly was made into a bed at 90 g/box and stacked in boxes. It was transplanted on October 27th after 2 days of germination at 30℃ and 15 days of seedling and greening. When transplanting, they were transplanted at intervals of 30×14cm. The existing cultivation method, drill seedling, was sowed at a level of 50 kg/ha, and both transplanting and drilling were carried out at a nitrogen fertilization rate of 45 kg/ha. The number of ears during transplant cultivation was 1,016/m2 and the drilling tended to be higher at 2,278/m2, but this was probably due to the difference in seeding amount. The seed number of an ear tended to be 56% higher in transplantation, which had a significant impact on yield. The seed yield was 2,096 ka/ha in transplantation, which was 21% higher than that of drilling. When looking at the relationship with weed occurrence, there were areas where all the weeds, such as amul foxtail, occurred due to the low density. Even in the same transplanting area, the seed yield was about 1,000kg/ha less in the area where the weeds were abundant. It seems that weed management is important in paddy cultivation. Therefore, it seems necessary to develop an exclusive herbicide for Italian ryegrass cultivation.
