  • Through the many site investigations, different methods for evaluating stability of rock slopes have been proposed. Those methods, however, may lead to different results depending on the subjective judgments associated with the selection of the evaluation items and the application of weighting factor. Accordingly, binary logistic regression analysis was carried out to ensure fair appliction of the weighting factor, leading to an equation for evaluating the stability of rock slopes.

  • Currently available evaluation checklists are developed for specific purposed using different parameters and items determined by different weighting factors. Those items with different weighting are sometimes said that they are based on the engineering judgement and leap of faith and, therefore, there is a limitation to adapt those checklists for slope-stability evaluation in the field. This study reviews factors affecting Rock-slope stability, analyze the relationship between those factors and slope failures using artificial neural network, and proposed a slope-stability evaluation model for adequate weighting for the factors.

  • This paper describes a new method of stability evaluation for an estimated impulse response of a plant. It is difficult for the conventional stability evaluation equation to be used in an adaptive feedforward control system which uses an immeasurable acoustic transfer system of a real plant, because the equation requires an exact true impulse response of the plant. Therefore, the usefulness of the conventional equation is limited in a computer simulation. The proposed method is applicable to not only a computer simulation but also a real feedforward adaptive control system. It is found that the system is stable when the value of misadjustment is below -10 dB through computer simulations and experiments. And also, it is proved that the error signal is stable through the verification using filtered reference and filtered error LMS methods.

  • The oxidative stability of salmon mince to which milk protein concentrate(MPC) added was investigated. Salmon mince was stored at 4$\^{C}$ for 21 days, at -18$\^{C}$ for 20 days and at -18$\^{C}$ for 20 days after cooking in an electric omen. At each storage point, peroxide values(POV) were determined. Salmon mince with 4% MPC increased greater oxidative stability than control (without MPC). Sensory evaluation for measuring the oxidative stability of salmon mince was accomplished. Sensory scares of salmon mince with 4% MPC were higher than those of control. The results indicate that MPC could be useful for oxidative stability, as stabilizing protein ingredient of salmon mince.

  • The potential allergenicity of the transgene products in genetically modified organisms (GMOs). has been an important issue. As a part of the risk assessment of GMOs. we investigated the physicochemical stability and the immunogenicity of food allergens to determine their allergenicity. We have systematically evaluated the stability of food allergens in the gastrointestinal tract by using simple models of gastric (Stimulated gastric fluid) and intestinal (Stimulated intestinal fluid) digestion. • This paper presents a method of an automatic work time evaluation based on the verification of a disassemblability and assembly configuration. Even though a work time evaluation is an important field of concern for planning assembly lay-out, there are some limitations using cumbersome user query or approximated work time data without considering assembly condition. To overcome such restriction, this paper presents a method to mathematically verify assembly conditions based on the disassemblability, which is defined by the separability and stability cost. The separability cost represents a facility of the part disassembly operation, and the stability cost which represents a degree of the stability for the base assembly motion. Based upon the results, we propose a new approach of evaluating work time using neural networks. The proposed method provides an effective means of solving the work time evaluation problem and gives a design guidance of planning assembly lay-out in flexible manufacturing application. Example study is given to illustrate the concepts and procedure of the proposed schemes.

  • This paper proposes a probabilistic evaluation for the transient stability of electrical power systems incorporating FACTS devices. The uncertainties of the fault location and relay operation time play important keys in power system instability evaluation. The TCSC and SVC are employed for the reduction of system instability probability. This method is demonstrated by the WSCC test system and the results are compared with and without FACTS by means of Monte Carlo simulation.

  • The design of a reliable and failsafe control system requires that sensor failures be detected and identified within acceptable time limit so that system malfunction can be prevented. This paper presents a model-based approach to sensor fault detection with applications to vehicle stability control systems. The effectiveness of the proposed method is illustrated through test data-based evaluation. Vehicle test data-based evaluation results show that the proposed fault management scheme can be used for the design of a failsafe VSCs.

  • This study were performed to investigated the behavior of excessive pore water pressure with embankment of soft clay. The dissipation behavior of excessive pore water pressure in the improved and non-improved area was used to compare and alyze with lateral displacement , and to investigated the applicability of the methods for stability evaluatio of soft clay. The behavior of excess pore water pressure could be used to the fundamental data for stability evaluation, and the evaluation of the stability of embankment was recommended to use the indlination of curve rather than critical line.
