오차 신호의 비선형 함수를 이용하는 VS-CCA에서 적응을 위한 step 변화 속도값에 따른 등화 성능 (Equalization Performance according to the Step Change Speed Value for adaptation in VS-CCA using Nonlinear Function of Error Signal)

  • 본 논문에서는 오차 신호의 비선형 함수를 이용하는 VS-CCA (Varying Step-Compact Constellation Algorithm)에서 적응을 위한 step 변화 속도값에 따른 적응 등화의 성능을 비교하였다. VS-CCA 알고리즘은 16-QAM과 같은 nonconstant modulus 신호를 4개의 4-QAM constant modulus 신호군으로 compact화한 후, 송신 신호의 통계치인 고정 modulus를 이용하여 오차 신호를 발생하여 이의 비선형 함수를 이용하는 varying step으로 최소비용 함수를 얻도록 적응 등화기의 탭 계수를 갱신한다. 이때 비선형 함수의 step 변화 속도값에 따라 순시 적응 step값이 결정되며, 이의 값에 따라 상이한 적응 등화 성능을 얻을 수 있음을 컴퓨터 시뮬레이션을 통해 확인하였다. step 변화 속도값에 따른 등화 성능 비교 지수로는 등화기 내부 지수와 외부 잡음에 대한 강인성을 나타내는 등화기 외부 지수를 사용하였다. 컴퓨터 시뮬레이션 결과 정상 상태에서 변화 속도를 1.0보다 적게 할수록 모든 성능 지수에서 1.0보다 큰 경우 보다 우월해짐을 알 수 있었다.

Full-scale TBM excavation tests for rock-like materials with different uniaxial compressive strength

  • Penetration rate (PR) and penetration depth (Pe) are crucial parameters for estimating the cost and time required in tunnel construction using tunnel boring machines (TBMs). This study focuses on investigating the impact of rock strength on PR and Pe through full-scale experiments. By conducting controlled tests on rock-like specimens, the study aims to understand the contributions of various ground parameters and machine-operating conditions to TBM excavation performance. An earth pressure balanced (EPB) TBM with a sectional diameter of 3.54 m was utilized in the experiments. The TBM excavated rocklike specimens with varying uniaxial compressive strength (UCS), while the thrust and cutterhead rotational speed were controlled. The results highlight the significance of the interplay between thrust, cutterhead speed, and rock strength (UCS) in determining Pe. In high UCS conditions exceeding 70 MPa, thrust plays a vital role in enhancing Pe as hard rock requires a greater thrust force for excavation. Conversely, in medium-to-low UCS conditions less than 50 MPa, thrust has a weak relationship with Pe, and Pe becomes directly proportional to the cutterhead rotational speed. Furthermore, a strong correlation was observed between Pe and cutterhead torque with a determination coefficient of 0.84. Based on these findings, a predictive model for Pe is proposed, incorporating thrust, TBM diameter, number of disc cutters, and UCS. This model offers a practical tool for estimating Pe in different excavation scenarios. The study presents unprecedented full-scale TBM excavation results, with well-controlled experiments, shedding light on the interplay between rock strength, TBM operational variables, and excavation performance. These insights are valuable for optimizing TBM excavation in grounds with varying strengths and operational conditions.

LISST-100과 ADCP를 이용한 광양만 현장 부유입자물질 특성 연구 (Characteristic of In Situ Suspended Particulate Matter at the Gwangyang bay Using LISST-100 and ADCP)

  • In order to measure in-situ suspended particle size, volume concentration of suspended particulate matter and current speed, mooring observation was performed at the Gwangyang Bay by using of an optical instrument, 'LISST-100' and an acoustic instrument, 'ADV'(St. S1). And the sediment flux was obtained based on the concentration of suspended particulate matter and current speeds measured at three lines of Gwangyang Bay during ebb and flood tide of August 2006. To investigate the spatial variation of suspended particulate matter, profiling observations were measured difference echo intensity and beam attenuation coefficient by using of ADCP and Transmissometer (Line A, B, C). The suspended sediment flux rate at the mouth of Gwangyang Bay was observed to be higher during asymmetrical than symmetrical of current speeds. The flux of suspended particulate matter concentration and current speeds were transported to southeastern direction of surface layer and northwestern direction of bottom layer at the western area at line A of Gwangyang Bay. Small suspended particles have been found to increase attenuation and transmission more efficiently than similar large particles using acoustic intensity (ADV/ADCP) or optical transmit coefficient (LISST-100/Transmissometer). The application and problems as using optical or acoustic instruments will be detected for use in time varying calibrations to account for non-negligible changes in complex environments in situ particle dynamics are poorly understood.

Friction Assessment of Canola Oil on Contact Bearing Materials

  • In manufacturing operations, oil plays a crucial role in reducing friction and wear among interacting surfaces at varying velocities, loads, and temperature. Hydrocarbon oil is considered the origin of lubrication oils. However, this base oil has been limited in its use as it is a principal cause of pollution. This research focuses on identifying a biodegradable base oil lubricant that possesses a stable coefficient of friction and viscosity with temperature. Friction analysis is conducted by employing a pin on a disk tribotester with a fixed load of 10 N at varying sliding speeds ranging from 0.06 m/s to 0.34 m/s. Oil viscosity analysis is perfomed at room temperature by using a rotary viscometer. Tests are performed using canola oil and paraffin oil as lubricants. The results indicate that the viscosity of canola oil is more efficient than paraffin oil. The non-dimensional characteristic number according to the Stribeck curve reveals an elastohydrodynamic lubrication regime with canola oil lubrication. A comparison of both lubricants reveals that, the friction efficiency of canola oil and paraffin oil does not differ considerably. However, the friction in canola oil is observed to decrease more than that in paraffin oil at an elevated sliding speed. The tests confirm that canola oil is potent in minimizing the friction coefficient of SCM440 bodies interacting with one another as well as acted upon by load.

  • The surface texture produced via surface texturing is an important approach for controlling the tribological behavior of friction behavior of mechanical devices. The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of grooves generated via ultrasonic nanocrystal surface modification (UNSM) technology on the tribological performance of AISI 4150 steel against stainless steel 316L. In the study, tribological tests are performed under two different regimes, namely mixed and hydrodynamic lubrication, by varying the applied normal load and reciprocating speed during the tests. According to the test results, the friction coefficient decreases as static load (10 N, 30 N, and 50 N) of UNSM technology increases in the mixed lubrication regime. Conversely, the friction coefficient increases as the static load (10 N, 30 N, and 50 N) of UNSM technology increases in the hydrodynamic lubrication regime. Hence, the results indicate that micro-grooves generate hydrodynamic pressure in the outlet, which increases the oil film thickness between the two mating surfaces. This potentially leads to a reduction in friction in the mixed lubrication regime due to the prevention of contact of asperities and debris. However, the results indicate an adverse effect in the hydrodynamic lubrication regime. In this regard, additional experiments should be performed to investigate the effect of grooves generated by UNSM technology at varying conditions on the friction behavior of AISI 4150 steel, which in turn can be controlled by the generated pressure and oil film thickness at the contact interface.

부이의 특성이 통발어구의 고정력에 미치는 영향 (Effect of the characteristics of buoy on the holding power of trapnet)

  • In this paper, numerical modeling is conducted to analyze the tension of an anchor line by varying the size and drag coefficient of a buoy when the trapnet is influenced by the wave and the current simultaneously. A mass-spring model was used to analyze the behavior of trapnet underwater under the influence of waves and current. In the simulation of numerical model, wave height of 3, 4, 5 and 6 m, a period of 4.4 s, and the flow speed of 0.7 m/s were used for the wave and current condition. The drag coefficients of buoy were 0.8, 0.4 and 0.2, respectively. The size of buoy was 100, 50 and 25% based on the cylindrical buoy ($0.0311m^3$) used for swimming crab trap. The drag coefficient of the trapnet, the main model for numerical analysis, was obtained by a circular water channel experiment using a 6-component load cell. As a result of the simulation, the tension of the anchor line decreased proportional to buoy's drag coefficient and size; the higher the wave height, the greater the decrease rate of the tension. When the buoy drag coefficient and size decreased to one fourth, the tension of the anchor line decreased to a half and the tension of the anchor line was lower than the holding power of the anchor even at 6 m of wave height. Therefore, reducing the buoy drag coefficient and size appropriately reduces the trapnet load from the wave, which also reduces the possibility of trapnet loss.

전폐형 유도전동기 엔드와인딩 표면의 열전달에 미치는 회전자팬의 영향 (Rotor fan effects on end winding heat transfer in totally enclosed fan cooled induction motor)

  • The end winding is an important part in induction motor for thermal analysis. But there is little information on the heat transfer coefficient of that surfaces because of geometrical complexity. So our experimental object is to know the heat transfer coefficient of end winding and find the optimum design parameter of rotor fan. Carbon coated papers were used for a uniform heat generating surfaces which were easy to fabricate. The experiments of some parameters were performed as varying rotation speed of rotor fan. We obtained the local and average Nusselt number of the end winding surfaces by correcting radiation and conduction losses errors. The results showed that the average Nusselt number increased with rotor fan blade number and width but decreased with end winding length. However, the increasing limits existed in the case of rotor fan width and blade number. So optimum design value were obtained for rotor fan width and blade numbers.

가열로 내 슬랩의 온도 예측을 위한 2차원 열전달 모델 (2D Heat Transfer Model for the Prediction of Temperature of Slab in a Direct-Fired Reheating Furnace)

  • A mathematical heat transfer model for the prediction of heat flux on the slab surface and temperature distribution in the slab has been developed by considering the thermal radiation in the furnace and transient conduction governing equations in the slab, respectively. The furnace is modeled as radiating medium with spatially varying temperature and constant absorption coefficient. The slab is moved with constant speed through non-firing, charging, preheating, heating, and soaking zones in the furnace. Radiative heat flux which is calculated from the radiative heat exchange within the furnace modeled using the FVM by considering the effect of furnace wall, slab, and combustion gases is applied as the boundary condition of the transient conduction equation of the slab. Heat transfer characteristics and temperature behavior of the slab is investigated by changing such parameters as absorption coefficient and emissivity of the slab. Comparison with the experimental work shows that the present heat transfer model works well for the prediction of thermal behavior of the slab in the reheating furnace.

핀 휠 기반 거스 기어의 접촉 피로수명 평가 (Estimation of Contact Fatigue Life of a Girth Gear Based on Pinwheel)

  • Girth gears are applied in the mining, cement, and mineral processing industries and used in various types of horizontal mills, rotary dryers and kilns, and other heavy-gear ring applications. The large ring gears are normally fitted outside mills or kilns to provide the primary rotational drive. Recently, an external pinwheel gear set (e-PGS) was introduced to overcome manufacturing problems associated with girth gears. e-PGS is also suitable for low-speed, heavy-duty mechanical transmission and dusty and poor-lubrication conditions. This paper first presents a new profile modification of root relief for the e-PGS cam pinion. We then investigate load-stress factors to estimate the surface fatigue life by varying the shape design parameters. The results show that the contact fatigue life of an e-PGS can be extended significantly by increasing the profile shift coefficient. However, support bearing life of the pinwheel depends more on the contact force distribution than the profile shift coefficient.

$ZrSiO_4$가 첨가된 마찰재의 마찰 안정성 (Friction Stability of Materials with $ZrSiO_4$ Addition)

  • This study was conducted to invent brake of non-steel material without using asbestos and disc pad added $ZrSiO_4$ was made. The physical properties and friction characteristics were investigated by varying methods. The physical properties were inspected of shear strength, hardness, heat expansion, specific gravity, % of gashole, thickness variation, weight variation and pH variation. The friction stability was measured by friction coefficient on variations of speed, temperature and deceleration condition. It was found that the physical properties were in general excellent. According to the friction characteristics tests, $ZrSiO_4$ had an abrasive property. As a results, the friction materials containing $ZrSiO_4$ 3~5vol% showed better resistance to fading and improved friction stability than the materials without ZrSiO$_4$.
