Bilingual Voice Conversion Using Frequency Warping on Formant Space (포만트 공간에서의 주파수 변환을 이용한 이중 언어 음성 변환 연구)

  • This paper describes several approaches to transform a speaker's individuality to another's individuality using frequency warping between bilingual formant frequencies on different language environments. The proposed methods are simple and intuitive voice conversion algorithms that do not use training data between different languages. The approaches find the warping function from source speaker's frequency to target speaker's frequency on formant space. The formant space comprises four representative monophthongs for each language. The warping functions can be represented by piecewise linear equations, inverse matrix. The used features are pure frequency components including magnitudes, phases, and line spectral frequencies (LSF). The experiments show that the LSF-based voice conversion methods give better performance than other methods.

  • There is a number of clinical conditions that affect directly or indirectly the physical properties of the vocal folds and thereby the pressure waveforms of elicited sounds. If the relationships between the clinical conditions and the voice quality are sufficiently reliable, it should be possible to detect these diseases or disorders. The focus of this paper is to determine the set of features and their values that would characterize the speaker's state of vocal folds. To the extent that these features can capture the anatomical, physiological, and neurological aspects of the speaker they can be potentially used to mediate an unobtrusive approach to diagnosis. We will show a new approach to this problem supported with results obtained from two disordered voice corpora.

Through real-time remote control and wireless network capabilities of an unmanned remote-control experiments and Home Security / exercise with an unmanned robot, remote control and voice recognition and voice transmission are possible to transmit on a PC using a microphone to control a robot to pinpoint of the source. Speech recognition can be controlled robot by using a remote control. In this research, speech recognition speed and direction of self-driving robot were controlled by a wireless remote control in order to verify the performance of mobile robot with two drives.

  • To estimate sound direction of arrival with a pair of microphones, a method based on Time Difference of Arrival (TDOA) estimation using the Cross Power Spectrum Phase (CPSP) function is largely used due to its simplicity and good performance. In this paper, we investigate CPSP maximum values for various SNRs and adverse environments, and propose a novel method to improve the estimation performance of sound direction of arrival. The proposed method applies a threshold to the CPSP values and increases the reliability of the estimated sound direction. Through computer simulation for various SNRs, we validate the effectiveness of the proposed method. When the threshold was set to 0.1, more than 90% of success rate of sound direction of arrival estimation has been achieved for directions of $10^{\circ}$, $40^{\circ}$, $70^{\circ}$ from the source location even with reverberation times of 0.1s.

  • Many isolated word recognition systems may generate non-similar words for recognition candidates because they use only acoustic information. In this paper, we investigate several techniques which can exclude non-similar words from N-best candidate words by applying Levenstein distance measure. At first, word distance method based on phone and syllable distances are considered. These methods use just Levenstein distance on phones or double Levenstein distance algorithm on syllables of candidates. Next, word similarity approaches are presented that they use characters' position information of word candidates. Each character's position is labeled to inserted, deleted, and correct position after alignment between source and target string. The word similarities are obtained from characters' positional probabilities which mean the frequency ratio of the same characters' observations on the position. From experimental results, we can find that the proposed methods are effective for removing non-similar words without loss of system performance from the N-best recognition candidates of the systems.

A Hidden Markov Model Imbedding Multiword Units for Part-of-Speech Tagging

  • Morphological Analysis of Korean has known to be a very complicated problem. Especially, the degree of part-of-speech(POS) ambiguity is much higher than English. Many researchers have tried to use a hidden Markov model(HMM) to solve the POS tagging problem and showed arround 95% correctness ratio. However, the lack of lexical information involves a hidden Markov model for POS tagging in lots of difficulties in improving the performance. To alleviate the burden, this paper proposes a method for combining multiword units, which are types of lexical information, into a hidden Markov model for POS tagging. This paper also proposes a method for extracting multiword units from POS tagged corpus. In this paper, a multiword unit is defined as a unit which consists of more than one word. We found that these multiword units are the major source of POS tagging errors. Our experiment shows that the error reduction rate of the proposed method is about 13%.

  • In this paper, we compared formant frequency extraction algorithms with various conditions, and show their performances. The formant frequency is the resonance frequency which is decided by the vocal tract characteristics. It is related with phonemes, or characteristics of the physical condition of the vocal track. Since the speech signal is influenced by both the sound source and the vocal tract, it is difficult to calculate the exact formant frequencies. Many studies on the formant frequency extraction had been executed already Besides, any new formant frequency extraction algorithm is hardly found recently.

Voice-based Device Control Using oneM2M IoT Platforms

  • In this paper, we present a prototype system for controlling IoT home appliances via voice-based commands. A voice command has been widely deployed as one of unobtrusive user interfaces for applications in a variety of IoT domains. However, interoperability between diverse IoT systems is limited by several dominant companies providing voice assistants like Amazon Alexa or Google Now due to their proprietary systems. A global IoT standard, oneM2M has been proposed to mitigate the lack of interoperability between IoT systems. In this paper, we deployed oneM2M-based platforms for a voice record device like a wrist band and LED control device like a home appliance. We developed all the components for recording voices and controlling IoT devices, and demonstrate the feasibility of our proposed method based on oneM2M platforms and Google STT (Speech-to-Text) API for controlling home appliances by showing a user scenario for turning the LED device on and off via voice commands.
