Elliptical fragments are common in natural language dialogues between humans. Since most elliptical fragments should be interpeted within the context. it is not easy for computers to recognize the speaker's intention from the elliptical fragments. In t this paper we propose a model to recognize speaker's intention from elliptical fragments 1 in Korean by expanding the tripartite plan-based model proposed by Lambert. We add new discourse recipes to define user's discourse actions through elliptical fragments. In order to use plan inference process. we must represent utterances as actions. e. g .. r e elliptical fragments are represented as surface speech acts. In surface speech act representation. we include the information of 'Josa' (case markers in Korean), because t the information of 'Josa' plays a very important role in analysing speakers' intention in Korean. Finally. by using an object and discourse focus theory, the system can recognize the intention that a user is trying to compare between two plans by uttering elliptical fragments
This study identifies distinguishing features and variability of intonation patterns in Korean phonological phrases. Syllable count and segmental content, which are phonological conditions, of the intonation of phonological phrases were examined. Based on the four syllables, the intonation of a phonological phrase can be set to LHLH as the basic form, and syllable count acts as a condition for making a variation. The "3 syllables or less condition" changes the intonation from a curved line to a straight line. Variation occurs in pitch bandwidth and fluctuation according to segmental content. The first segment affects the phonological phrase formation bandwidth, and the following segment affects the pitch fluctuation. If the first segment has [+aspirate], [+tense], [+continuant], the intonation is formed in the high band, otherwise, it is formed in the low band. If the second or after segment in the intonation realized in the high band has [-aspirate], [-tense], [-continuant], the pitch is lowered to the lowest level of the low bandwidth. In the intonation realized in the low band, [+aspirate], [+tense], [+continuant] is blocked by the second descent of LHLH.

This paper represents the mobile robot system remote controlled by PDA(personal digital assistance). So far, owing to the development of internet technologies, lots of remote control methods through internet have been proposed. To control a mobile robot through internet and guide it under unknown environment, We propose a control method activated by PDA. In a proposed system, PDA acts as a user interface to communicate with notebook as a controller of the mobile robot system using TCP/IP protocol, and the notebook controls the mobile robot system. The information about the direction and velocity of the mobile robot feedbacks to the PDA and the PDA send new control method produced from the fuzzy inference engine.
The purpose of this study is to understand the evolution of food culture by applying the evolutionary mechanism to the process of forming the dog meat culture. To do this, this study first examined mutation, selection, and replication as a evolutionary mechanism by biological genes and explain the evolutionary process of food culture by applying so-called 'mime' which is a virally-transmitted cultural symbol or social idea. A meme acts as a unit for carrying cultural ideas, practices, that can be transmitted from one mind to another through writing, speech, gestures, rituals, or other imitable phenomena with a mimicked theme. In addition, this study also intended to use in-depth interviews on how people have diverse cultural perspectives interpret and accept edible culture of dog meat. In Korea, which was a traditional farming society, dog meat which is easier to obtain compare to beef has been chosen as an important source of protein. And this choice has been repeatedly reproduced through generations. However, the current generation's awareness of the edible culture of dog meat has changed. The meme of pet culture has been selected and replicated, and this cultural evolution will eventually lead to the culling of dog meat.
This paper explores the effects of two different methods of instruction for 106 low-level Korean learners of English at a college in learning request expressions. Both of the methods contained the focus-on-form and function characteristics, while the degree of explicitness for input enhancement was differentiated. Abundant email samples written by English native speakers for the input were provided and email writing practice for the output was proceeded for both groups of the students in the treatment sessions. The numbers of target forms used in pretest and posttest results were compared quantitatively: The tests included email writing and open-ended Discourse Completion Test (DCT). The results indicated that the target pragmatic features were slightly better learned under the condition of relatively high degree of explicit instruction with metapragmatic information, even though the difference was statistically insignificant. In addition, the students' use of request strategies both in email and DCT was affected positively by the treatment with email input and output. That is, the students applied the request strategies they learned through email into their oral production (open-ended DCT) as well as their email writing. Further study on the output effect of target features in advancing pragmatic competence is suggested.
This study dealt with an issue of teaching Korean as a foreign language in North Korea through textbook analysis. The literature in this field has been quite rare compared to that in other fields in Korean language education, which is due to the adverse circumstances under which research into North Korea is currently carried out. The textbooks analyzed were 조선말회화(1) and 조선말회화(3) and the two learners who had studied Korean with these textbooks were interviewed. The main results show that (a) the grammar points in each chapter are unevenly distributed in 조선말회화(1), which makes it not look learner-centered; (b) each chapter in 조선말회화(1) is composed of speech acts, topics and situations, which renders it useful to its learners; (c) 조선말회화(3) emphasizes Korean oral discoursal features as a conversational textbook; and (d) 조선말회화(3) also covers much of reading comprehension-focused contents, which its learners may find burdensome. Foreseeing a possibility of teaching Korean as a foreign language in a reunified Korea makes it critical to carry out research into teaching Korean as a foreign language in North Korea. This calls for future collaborative research into this issue between two Koreas.

The article studies the discourse and a legal uncertainty of the popular and generally understandable concept of cybercrime. The authors reveal the doctrinal approaches to the definition of cybercrime, cyberspace, computer crime. The analysis of international legal acts and legislation of Ukraine in fighting cybercrime is carried out. The conclusion is made about the need to improve national legislation and establish international cooperation to develop the tools for countering cybercrime and minimizing its negative outcomes. The phenomenon of nicknames is studied as a semantic source, which potentially generates a number of threats and troubles - the crisis of traditional anthroponymic culture, identity crisis, hidden sociality, and indefinite institutionalization, incognito style, a range of manifestations of loneliness - from voluntary solitude to traumatic isolation and forced detachment. The core idea is that it is the phenomenon of incognito and hidden name (nickname and other alternatives) that is the motivational stimulus for the fact of information trouble or crime.

Hypotonia, Ataxia, and Delayed Development Syndrome (HADDS) is an autosomal-dominant, extremely rare neurodevelopmental disorder caused by the heterozygous EBF3 gene mutation. EBF3 is located on chromosome 10q26.3 and acts as a transcription factor that regulates neurogenesis and differentiation. This syndrome is characterized by dysmorphism, cerebellar hypoplasia, urogenital anomaly, hypotonia, ataxia, intellectual deficit, and speech delay. The current report describes a 3-year-old Korean male carrying a de novo EBF3 mutation, c.589A>G (p.Asn197Asp), which was identified by whole exome sequencing. He manifested facial dysmorphism, hypotonia, strabismus, vermis hypoplasia, and urogenital anomalies, including vesicoureteral reflux, cryptorchidism, and areflexic bladder. This is the first report of a case of HADDS cause by an EBF3 mutation in the Korean population.
An analogical reading of socio-historical context of Harold Pinter's The Caretaker employs some postcolonial discursive analyses of postimperial British capitalistic interests in their post war reconstruction. It is also concerned with causes of so-called broken society. The Caretaker dramatizes minimal actions: a tramp is invited by the elder brother; a job as caretaker is offered; he is reluctant to accept the first offer by the elder brother, but is willing to the second by the younger; eventually, he is excluded because he makes noises while dreaming. These trivial actions produce serious and critical speech acts with their socio-historical implications. The tramp Davies is socially and thereby existentially excluded from the centre of the cold, banished to even colder peripheries. The audience face to the question. Why is Davies excluded? This study tries to answer the question, uncovering deep-rooted capitalistic racism, and reading its symptoms. Even after 50 years The Caretaker was staged, post-imperial broken society tries to operate the betrayals of disparity between the cause and effect of what has gone wrong. Pinter confirms that the action of the play takes place in a house in west London. With the city of London as its capitalistic centre, British imperialism lavished much of its wealth which has only served sectional interests dividing people against themselves. Pinter dramatizes the root of broken society. On the one hand, Pinter foregrounds the very general conflicts between individuals and forms of power; on the other hand, he underlies the very specific strategies of socio-historical exploitation, domination and exclusion.
In 1999, the French semiotician Jacques Fontanille published his work on discourse semiotics as an attempt to overcome the limitations of structuralism. Discourse semiotics has expanded the realm of semiotics by taking a phenomenological approach that examines the structure of consciousness. Phenomenology pays special attention to the operation of human consciousness, which, instead of staying put, moves from one place to another-unbeknownst to its agent. This paper examines "Bulls" through a phenomenological approach as the short story depicts the stream of consciousness that unfolds within the inner world of Pau, the young male protagonist. The rhetorical approach to literary analysis works at the level of the speech act and directly relates to speech act theory. In rhetorics, figures and tropes are dominated by speech acts. Whereas conventional rhetorical analysis lacks a kinetic perspective as it revolves around flat semantic inspections, the discourse semiotics approach applied in this paper allows for an indepth multidimensional analysis where the analyses of ${\acute{e}}nonc{\acute{e}}$ and ${\acute{e}}nonciation$ complement each other. Presenting a peasant movement to the reader through the eyes of the young male protagonist Pau, "Bulls" is considered a significant literary feat in the history of Korea's New Literature as the work is highly regarded for its impressive depiction of a communal movement. This paper reinterprets and reevaluates the story under a new light, mainly through a rhetorical approach and a phenomenological approach that hinges on discourse semiotics.
