  • In order to investigate the acoustical characteristics of the Hae-keum (Korean traditional musical instrument) tone quality, the spectrum and wave form of Hae-keum sounds were analyzed by the FFT Analyzer. The analysis was carried out by the varying of the tension of Hae-keum strings, the positions of bridge and the top plate's thickness of Hae-keum respectively. According to the experiment, the following results are obtained ; the over tone's amplitude nearby the top plate resonance frequency is greater than the fundamental tone's amplitude because the top plate resonance frequency is higher than the fundamental tone's frequency. Tone qualities are better when the bridge is situated in the middle of top plate and the tension of strings is larger. The inharmonicity coefficient of the Hae-keum's second string is 0.049 cents/$n^2$. The brilliance and richness is poor, because we seldom found the over tone over 5kHz and the inharmonicity of the Hae-keum is greater than that of a violin. Also we confirmed that we are able to get the best tone quality in 4.5mm thickness of the Hae-keum's top plate.

  • Linearity is the one of the most important features for analog-optic transmission system. In our research, the available bandwidth for the feed-forward compensation circuit is enhanced by using a 180 hybrid coupler in the circuit. The bandwidth having the decreased 3rd-order intermodulation distortion(IMD3) over 10 dB is extended over 200 MHz with the center frequency of 1.6 GHz. We performed an efficient bandwith measurement for the feed-forward compensation system, which uses the network analyzer instead of the traditional measuring system that uses two RF signal generators and the spectrum analyzer. We identify the usefulness of this method from experimental results. In this study, we used cheap digital-purpose laser diodes for economical aspect, which proves the efficiency of the proposed analog system. The spurious-free dynamic range is improved about 6 dB/Hz.

  • In this paper, we design the pre-equalizer of transmitter circuit in order to enhancement modulation bandwidth of white LED which is light source of VLC (Visible Light Communication). Also, we eliminate yellow light component by optical filtering which mitigate frequency response of white LED. Power loss by optical filtering is overcome by using convex lens. By applying proposed system, 3 dB bandwidth deciding modulation bandwidth of white LED increases from 3 MHz to more than 25 MHz and the transmission distance increases by optical design which secure additional signal power. We optically modulate NRZ-OOK signal to LED and receive light signal using APD. We analyze received data using CSA and RFSA. As a result, we experimently demonstrate the possibility that transmits NRZ-OOK signal up to 30 Mbps in 4.5 m, 50 Mbps in 1.5 m through the pre-equalizer and optical design.

  • A novel pulse fitting analysis (PFA) method is presented for the acquisition of nuclear spectra. The charging process of the feedback capacitor in the resistive feedback charge-sensitive preamplifier is equivalent to the impulsive pulse, and its impulse response function (IRF) can be obtained by non-linear fitting of the falling edge of the nuclear pulse. The integral of the IRF excluding the baseline represents the energy deposition of the particles in the detector. In addition, since the non-linear fitting process in PFA method is difficult to achieve in the conventional architecture of spectroscopy system, a new multi-channel analyzer (MCA) based on Zynq SoC is proposed, which transmits all the data of nuclear pulses from the programmable logic (PL) to the processing system (PS) by high-speed AXI-Stream in order to implement PFA method with precision. The linearity of new MCA has been tested. The spectrum of 137Cs was obtained using LaBr3(Ce) scintillator detector, and was compared with commercial MCA by ORTEC. The results of tests indicate that the MCA based on PFA method has the same performance as the commercial MCA based on pulse height analysis (PHA) method and excellent linearity for γ-rays with different energies, which infers that PFA method is an effective and promising method for the acquisition of spectra. Furthermore, it provides a new solution for nuclear pulse processing algorithms involving regression and iterative processes.

  • Ubiquitous is an information communication environment which peoples could connect on network without being conscious of the network and computer condition at anytime and anywhere. Presently, advanced technology, digital cities and eco-friendly cities using Ubiquitous technology are being focused through out the world. As recent information industry and communication technology have developed remarkably, studies on intelligent structures and structural maintenance methods by combining a general idea of connecting all objects on network by interpolating computers which is called Ubiquitous Computing, and USN(Ubiquitous Sensor Network) are being attempted. In this paper, a basic experiment on penetration of RF(Radio Frequency) sensor nodes using an experimental sample setting concrete and reinforcing bar as variables is studied to estimate the possibility of applying wireless sensor networks in structures. The spring of reinforcing bars, concrete thickness, intensity of radio frequency were set up as variables, transmitting and receiving distance were checked vertically and horizontally. Moreover, Spectrum Analyzer was used for checking the magnitude of the frequency used in order to measure the reduction of radio wave exactly. The radio wave reduction was numerically analyzed, and the influence of the wavelength was analysed as well. As a result, the penetration depth in concrete without reinforcing bars was 45cm, and in reinforced concretes which reinforcing bars placed at spacing of 5cm and 15cm, the penetration depth were 37cm and 45cm each. No influence on radio wave penetration depth were found when the spacing of reinforcing bars in the reinforced concrete structures becomes over 15cm.

  • We present the results offar ultraviolet (FUV, 1350-1750 ${\AA}$) auroral observations made by the Far-ultraviolet IMaging Spectrograph (FIMS) instrument on the Korean microsatellite STSAT-1. The instrument was capable of resolving spatial structures of a few kilometers with the spectral resolution of 2-3 ${\AA}$. The observations were carried out simultaneously with the measurement of precipitating electrons using an electrostatic analyzer (ESA, 100 eV-20 keV) and a solid state telescope (SST, 170 keV-360 keV) on board the same satellite. With a careful mapping of the field lines, we were able to correlate the particle spectrum to the corresponding FUV spectrum of the footprints of the FIMS image that varied significantly in fine scales. We divided the FIMS spectral band into the LBH long (LBHL, 1640-1715 ${\AA}$) and LBH short (LBHS, 1380-1455 ${\AA}$) bands, and compared the electron energies with the intensities of LBHL and LBHS for the well-defined inverted-V structures. The result shows a strong correlation between the total LBH intensity and the energy flux measured by ESAwhile the peak energy itself does not correlate well with the LBH intensity. On the other hand, it was observed that the ratio of the LBHL intensity to that of LBHS increased significantly as the peak electron energy increased, primarily due to a smaller absorption by O2 at LBHL than at LBHS.

  • We have carried out measurements of 1.2-1.6GHz radio interferences around Seoul Radio Astronomy Observatory located in the campus of Seoul National University. We received interference signals using a pyramidal horn antenna and measured its power using a spectrum analyzer with 1MHz resolution after $\~60dB$ amplification. In order to check the spatial characteristics, we made observations at every $30^{\circ}$ in azimuth at elevation of $30^{\circ}\;and\;60^{\circ}$. Also, in order to check the temporal characteristics, we repeated the all-sky observations five times at every six hours. The results may be summarized as follows: (1) There are strong $({\geq}-20dBm)$ interferences between 1.2 and 1.4GHz. Particularly strong interferences are observed at 1.271 and 1.281GHz, which have maximum powers of -0.34dBm and -0.56dBm, respectively. (2) The characteristics of the interferences do not depend strongly on directions, although the interferences are in general weak at high elevation and in east-west direction. (3) The interferences appear for a very short $(\leq0.01s)$ period of time, so that the average power is much smaller than the maximum power. Strong interferences with large $(\leq-49.0dBm)$ average power have been observed at 1.271, 1.281, 1.339, and 1.576GHz. At these frequencies, the interferences appear repeatedly with a period of $\leq0.1s$ By analyzing the observed power, we find that, for the strongest 1.271GHz interference, the average intensity is $-171dBW/m^2/Hz$ and that the maximum intensity is $-122dBW/m^2/Hz$. If this interference is delivered to the detector without any shielding, then its power would be much greater than the rms noise of a typical line spectrum. Therefore, it is important to shield all the parts of receiver carefully from radio interferences. Also, without appropriate shielding, the sensitivity of a receiver could be limited by the interference.

  • The underwater noise was measured by piezo-electric hydrophones submerged in the water at three different depths. The signals were led through connection cables to preamplifiers, and recorded simultaneously by a four channel tape recorder, and analysed by high resolution signal analyzer. The measurements were carried out at the fjord Skossvassen in archipelago off Bergen and at the cost of Norway in the North Sea. The results of the measurements and the analysis showed that the underwater noise consists of a steady broad band noise superposed by intermittent pulse of various strength. The noise levels measured in fjord Skossvassen indicated that they were generally higher at the shallow (10m) hydrophone than at the deeper hydrophone (25m, 50m). This tendency was not very distinct, however, the noise sources are close to the surface. The underwater noise spectrums measured in the open sea of Norway showed almost similar situation in all layers. This tendency showed that the noise sources are not close to the surface but they are far away from the measuring positions.

  • Quality evaluation for food and agricultural products have always been one of the most elusive problems associated with the handling , processing and marketing in a food plant production. In order to detect physical foreign materials in food and agricultural products, non-destructive techniques have been developed for many years. Application of X-ray system to detect physical foreign materials in food and agricultural products could be considered to be a high potential method. Especially , it is impossible to detect internal physical foreign materials by visual inspections. In this study, it was tried to be applied for two different X-ray devices. Soft X-ray system with CdTe sensor and X-ray CT scanner were evaluated for advantage of the detection of non-meltallic foreign materials in food and agricultural products . Though the soft X-ray is not a high energy radiation, it is possible to detect small different density in a material. The CdTe sensor has a high resolution for t e soft X-ray energy region. The density characteristics of foods and foreign material were expressed region. The density characteristics of foods and foreign materials were expressed as a soft X-ray energy spectrum. The energy spectrum was analyzed by a personal computer with a multi-channel analyzer. X-ray CT scanner can provide visual image and analyze by three dimensional information inside food and agricultural products. The X-ray CT scanner using as a medical equipment was used to detect a foreign material. The density characteristics of food and foreign materials in food were tried to be detected by the threshold value on the basis of the CT numbers. The soft X-ray absorption characteristics for acrylin plates and distilled water were obtained and could be found the possibility of detecting a small physical foreign materials such as a plastic wrapping film , a stone and grasshopper in food and agricultural products.

  • The purpose of the present study is to measure the sound spectrum of the underwater noise generated by a stern trawler M/S Saebada (2,275 GT, 3600 ps) in the various operational conditions. Underwater noises were recorded by a hydrophone (B & K 8100) and analyses were made rising a digital frequency analyzer (B & K 2131) and level recorder (B & K 2370). The predominant frequency range was 100-500 Hz, and maximum sound pressure level was 121 dB(re. $1{\mu}Pa$). Underwater noise level increased with the increased speed of the vessel. Sound pressure level measured in the course of astern cruising was higher than that measured in the course of ahead cruising and also the noise spectrums were different in these two cases. At the time of cruising the underwater noise was higher than 10 dB compared to those values measured at the time at rest with only engine operation. The underwater noise of the vessel was mainly due to the main engine revolution of the propeller and the vibration of hull.
