  • Ultra wide band (UWB) radio has recently attracted increased attention due to its expected unlicensed operation, and potential to provide very high data rates at relatively short ranges. In this article we briefly describe some main candidate multiple access and modulation schemes for UWB communications, followed with their power spectral density calculation and properties. We also present some illustrative capacity results, and provide a discussion of the impact of network topology on multiple access capacity.

  • The temperature calibration of stars by photometric parameters and spectral type is discussed, using the catalogue data of Cayrel de Strobel et al. (1985) and Morel et al. (1976). The H-R diagrams and the mass-luminosity relation of stars in this catalogue are presented in the [log(L/M)-log $T_e$]-and [$M_{bol}$-log(L/M)]-planes, respectively, discussing the age of main sequence (MS) stars and giant stars. The age-metallicity relation of the nearby stars suggests the initial rapid enrichment of metal abundance.

  • In this paper, we characterize the support for the Dunkl transform on the generalized Lebesgue spaces via the Dunkl resolvent function. The behavior of the sequence of $L^p_k$-norms of iterated Dunkl potentials is studied depending on the support of their Dunkl transform. We systematically develop real Paley-Wiener theory for the Dunkl transform on ${\mathbb{R}}^d$ for distributions, in an elementary treatment based on the inversion theorem. Next, we improve the Roe's theorem associated to the Dunkl operators.

  • The color difference between original and printed copy is affected mainly by ink trapping and optical properties of overprinted ink layer. Since the general expression itself about ink trapping is affected also by the optical properties, the analysis of color difference using the ink trapping only cannot be certain. This study will show a new approaching method for optical analysis of spectral reflectance and the effect of printing sequence on color difference in multi-color overprints under the condition of excluding completely the ink trapping problems by means of using transparent film as a substrate.

  • $Str\ddot{o}mgren$-system colors for 23 OV stars compiled by Crawford have been compared with colors calculated by Mihalas from non-LTE model atmospheres. In this way, effective temperatures of these stars have been determined and plotted against spectral type, $c_1$ (u-b), (b-y), (U-B), and (B-V). Within the accuracy of the observations, effective temperatures derived from the photometry for these 23 main-sequence stars are found to be in good agreement with Contiis spectroscopical temperatures.

  • Orthogonal freqency division multiplexing (OFDM) is an attractive technique for achieving high-bit-rate wireless data transmission. However, the potentially large peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) has limited its application; An OFDM signal with the large PAPR can cause power degradation (In-band distortion) and spectral spreading (Out-of-band distortion) by being clipped passing through a power amplifier. Thus, we propose the combining algorithm of Hadamard transform and phase shift, which is ascribed to the relation between the correlation of the IFFT input sequence function and PAPR. Extensive computer simulations show that the combining algorithm is an effective technique to reduce PAPR.

  • We study chromospheric oscillations including umbral flashes and running penumbral waves in a sunspot using scanning spectroscopy in H-alpha and Ca II 8542A, with the Fast Imaging Solar Spectrograph (FISS) at the 1.6 meter New Solar Telescope at Big Bear Solar Observatory. A bisector method is applied to spectral observations to construct chromospheric Doppler velocity maps. Temporal sequence analysis of these shows enhanced high-frequency oscillations inside the sunspot umbra in both lines. Their peak frequency gradually decreases outward from the umbra. The oscillation power is found to be associated with magnetic-field strength and inclination, with different relationships in different frequency bands.

  • Purpose: To determine the motor cortex dysfunction in hemiparetic patients due to deep intracerebral hematoma, authors performed proton magnetic resonance spectroscopy (lH MRS) for the evaluation of biochemical changes in the cortex on affected hemisphere according to axonal injury at the level of internal capsule. Methods: Ten control subjects and 14 patients with documentable hemiparesis of varying severity hemiparesis were included. All the hemiparesis was caused by deep intracerebral hematoma (putaminal and thalamic hemorrhage). In vivo 1H MRS study was performed on a 3T MRI/MRS system using STEAM sequence. As a single-voxel technique, Spectral parameters were: 20 ms TE, 2000 ms TR, 128 averages, 2500 Hz spectral width, and 2048 data points. Results: We found that the mean N-acetylaspartate (NAA)/phosphocreatine (Cr) and NAA/choline (Cho) ratios were significantly decreased in the motor cortex of the hemiparesis patients compared with control subjects. Conclusions: 1H MRS examinations of the motor cortex might help to differentiate distinct clinical entities of hemiparesis and to monitor pharmacological effects in therapeutic trials, providing a quantitative biological marker for motor neuron dysfunction. • In this paper, we propose a biorthogonal modulation employing a constant-amplitude transmission of multi-code signals by introducing a simple constant-amplitude coding scheme with redundant bits. The proposed constant-amplitude biorthogonal multi-code (CABM) modulation can provide high spectral efficiency compared with a conventional direct sequence/spread spectrum (DS/SS) modulation. Nevertheless the proposed CABM modulation can keep up a constant-amplitude signal. Additionally, we propose various types of demodulation structures for the CABM modulation. Simulation results show that bit error rate (BER) performance and hardware complexity of the proposed CABM modulation are highly improved in comparison with those of a constant-amplitude orthogonal multi-code (CAOM) modulation.
