Conventional cooperative communications can attain gain of spatial diversity and path loss reduction because destination node independently received same signal from source node and relay node located between source node and destination node. However, these techniques bring about decreased spectral efficiency with relay node and increased complexity of receiver by using maximal ratio combining (MRC). This paper has proposed cooperative ARQ protocol that can improve the above problems and can get the better performance. This method can increase the spectral efficiency than conventional cooperative communication because if the received signal from source node is satisfied by the destination preferentially, the destination transmits ACK message to both relay node and source node and then recovers the received signal. In addition, if ARQ message indicates NACK relay node operates selective retransmission and we can increase reliability of system compared with that of general ARQ protocol in which source node retransmits data. In the proposed protocol, the selective retransmission and ARQ message are to be determined by comparing log-likelihood ratio (LLR) computation of received signal from source node with predetermined threshold values. Therefore, this protocol don't waste redundant bandwidth with CRC code and can reduce complexity of receiver without MRC. We verified spectral efficiency and BER performance for the proposed protocol through Monte-Carlo simulation over Rayleigh fading plus AWGN.
In order to efficiently monitor red tide over a wide range, the need for red tide detection using remote sensing is increasing. However, the previous studies focus on the development of red tide detection algorithm for ocean colour sensor. In this study, we propose the use of multi-sensor to improve the inaccuracy for red tide detection and remote sensing data in coastal areas with high turbidity, which are pointed out as limitations of satellite-based red tide monitoring. The study area were selected based on the red tide information provided by National Institute of Fisheries Science, and spatial fusion and spectral-based fusion were attempted using GOCI image as ocean colour sensor and Landsat OLI image as terrestrial sensor. Through spatial fusion of the two images, both the red tide of the coastal area and the outer sea areas, where the quality of Landsat OLI image was low, which were impossible to observe in GOCI images, showed improved detection results. As a result of spectral-based fusion performed by feature-level and rawdata-level, there was no significant difference in red tide distribution patterns derived from the two methods. However, in the feature-level method, the red tide area tends to overestimated as spatial resolution of the image low. As a result of pixel segmentation by linear spectral unmixing method, the difference in the red tide area was found to increase as the number of pixels with low red tide ratio increased. For rawdata-level, Gram-Schmidt sharpening method estimated a somewhat larger area than PC spectral sharpening method, but no significant difference was observed. In this study, it is shown that coastal red tide with high turbidity as well as outer sea areas can be detected through spatial fusion of ocean colour and terrestrial sensor. Also, by presenting various spectral-based fusion methods, more accurate red tide area estimation method is suggested. It is expected that this result will provide more precise detection of red tide around the Korean peninsula and accurate red tide area information needed to determine countermeasure to effectively control red tide.
In this paper, a target signal detection method using multiple signal classification (MUSIC) algorithm is proposed. The MUSIC algorithm is a subspace-based direction of arrival (DOA) estimation method. Using the inverse of the eigenvalue-weighted eigen spectra, the algorithm detects the DOAs of multiple sources. To apply the algorithm in target signal detection for GSC-based beamforming, we utilize its spectral response for the DOA of the target source in noisy conditions. The performance of the proposed target signal detection method is compared with those of the normalized cross-correlation (NCC), the fixed beamforming, and the power ratio method. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm significantly outperforms the conventional ones in receiver operating characteristics (ROC) curves.

There exist many frame structural systems having some attachments reducible to damped spring-mass systems, concentracted masses and spring supports. For free and forced vibration analyses of such a system an analytical method based on the receptance method is presented. A framed structure having attachments is considered as a combined system composed of various Timoshenko beam and bar elements and the attachments. So, the vibration characteristics of the system are calculated by synthesizing receptances and Support Displacement Transfer Ratio (SDTR) of beam and bar elements In spectral and/or closed forms, and receptances of the attachments. In forced vibration analysis, arbitrary excitation forces at a point on the structure and displacement excitations at boundaries are considered. Numerical investigations are carried out for verification of the presented method, and the results show good accuracy and very high computational efficiency.

In the research of brain computer interface (BCI) technology, one of the big problems encountered is how to deal with some people as called the BCI-illiteracy group who could not control the BCI system. To approach this problem efficiently, we investigated a kind of spectral EEG characteristics in the prior resting state in association with BCI performance in the following BCI tasks. First, spectral powers of EEG signals in the resting state with both eyes-open and eyes-closed conditions were respectively extracted. Second, a convolution neural network (CNN) based binary classifier discriminated the binary motor imagery intention in the BCI task. Both the linear correlation and binary prediction methods confirmed that the spectral EEG characteristics in the prior resting state were highly related to the BCI performance in the following BCI task. Linear regression analysis demonstrated that the relative ratio of the 13 Hz below and above the spectral power in the resting state with only eyes-open, not eyes-closed condition, were significantly correlated with the quantified metrics of the BCI performance (r=0.544). A binary classifier based on the linear regression with L1 regularization method was able to discriminate the high-performance group and low-performance group in the following BCI task by using the spectral-based EEG features in the precedent resting state (AUC=0.817). These results strongly support that the spectral EEG characteristics in the frontal regions during the resting state with eyes-open condition should be used as a good predictor of the following BCI task performance.
The current spectral shape matching method (SSMM), developed by Ahn and Shanmugam (2004), relies on the assumption that the path radiance resulting from scattered photons due to air molecules and aerosols and possibly direct-reflected light from the air-sea interface is spatially homogeneous over the sub-scene of interest, enabling the retrieval of water-leaving radiances ($L_w$) from the satellite ocean color image data. This assumption remains valid for the clear atmospheric conditions, but when the distribution of aerosol loadings varies dramatically the above postulation of spatial homogeneity will be violated. In this study, we present the second version of SSMM which will take into account the horizontal variations of aerosol loading in the correction of atmospheric effects in SeaWiFS ocean color image data. The new version includes models for the correction of the effects of aerosols and Raleigh particles and a method fur computation of diffuse transmittance ($t_{os}$) as similar to SeaWiFS. We tested this method over the different optical environments and compared its effectiveness with the results of standard atmospheric correction (SAC) algorithm (Gordon and Wang, 1994) and those from in-situ observations. Findings revealed that the SAC algorithm appeared to distort the spectral shape of water-leaving radiance spectra in suspended sediments (SS) and algal bloom dominated-areas and frequently yielded underestimated or often negative values in the lower green and blue part of the electromagnetic spectrum. Retrieval of water-leaving radiances in coastal waters with very high sediments, for instance = > 8g $m^{-3}$, was not possible with the SAC algorithm. As the current SAC algorithm does not include models for the Asian aerosols, the water-leaving radiances over the aerosol-dominated areas could not be retrieved from the image and large errors often resulted from an inappropriate extrapolation of the estimated aerosol radiance from two IR bands to visible spectrum. In contrast to the above results, the new SSMM enabled accurate retrieval of water-leaving radiances in a various range of turbid waters with SS concentrations from 1 to 100 g $m^{-3}$ that closely matched with those from the in-situ observations. Regardless of the spectral band, the RMS error deviation was minimum of 0.003 and maximum of 0.46, in contrast with those of 0.26 and 0.81, respectively, for SAC algorithm. The new SSMM also remove all aerosol effects excluding areas for which the signal-to-noise ratio is much lower than the water signal.
We have systematically investigated the X-ray spectra of normal galaxies, by using the Imaging Proportional Counter (IPC) data in the Einstein data base. We employed the X-ray color-color plot as well as the standard model fitting method which requires higher signal to noise ratio. We discuss X-ray emission mechanisms in terms of their spectral properties and the signature of cooling flows which are most likely present in X-ray bright early type galaxies. On the average, fits to absorbed thermal spectra show that the X-ray emission temperature of spirals is higher than that of ellipticals. This is consistent with our understanding that accreting binaries are a major X-ray source in spirals, while extended gaseous halos are present in ellipticals. The emission temperature becomes lower with increasing X-ray to optical luminosity ratio in E and S0 galaxies. This result is what we would expect if the emission of X-ray faint early type galaxies consists of a large evolved stellar component, while the gaseous emission becomes dominant in X-ray brighter galaxies. We also find a cool, self-absorbed core in some early type galaxies, which directly indicates the presence of cooling flows in such galaxies.

This paper presents Raman scattering of liquid water to obtain the characteristics with variation of temperature. Very clear Stokes-Raman signals were observed, which shows H-O vibration stretching and H-O-H vibration bending. The obtained spectrum were processed by FFT filter to extract the noise and base. The spectral shape of the H-O stretching provided a various sensitive signature which allowed temperature to be determined by a curve-fitting technique. Those are Maximum Intensity, Maximum Wave Length, FWHM(Full Width at Half Maximum), PMCR(Polymer Monomer Concentration Ratio) and TSIR(Temperature Sensitive Intensity Ratio). TSIR method shows the highest accuracy of $0.1^{\circ}C$ in mean error and $0.32^{\circ}C$ In maximum error.
Large number of coral reefs in Thailand waters make the use of satellite imagery probably the only practical method for their monitoring. This paper reports the result of detecting small shallow-water coral reef by using maximum likelihood classification technique. Combination of blue/green and near-infrared band ratio are used as spectral signatures derived from a Landsat 7 imagery covering western portion of the Gulf of Thailand. Result assessment reveals accuracy significantly over 60 percent. The result is encouraging and would be a basis for further study to realize the full potential and limitation of this technique.
This paper presents a least-square algorithms of lattice structures and their use for adaptive prediction of time series generated from the dynamic system. As the view point of adaptive prediction, a new method of Identification of dynamic characteristics by means of estimating the parameters of linear auto regressive model is proposed. The fast convergence of adaptive lattice algorithms is seen to be due to the orthogonalization and decoupling properties of the lattice. The superiority of the least-square lattice is verified by computer simulation, then predictor coefficients are computed from the linear sequential time data. For the application to the dynamic characteristic analysis of unknown system, the transfer function of ideal system represented in frquency domain and the estimated one obtained by predicted coefficients are compared. Using the proposed method, the damping ratio and the natural frequency of a dynamic structure subjected to random excitations can be estimated. It is expected that this method will be widely applicable to other technical dynamic problem in which estimation of damping ratio and fundamental vibration modes are required.
