Recently a multilayer spectral inversion (MLSI) model has been proposed to infer the physical parameters of plasmas in the solar chromosphere. The inversion solves a three-layer radiative transfer model using the strong absorption line profiles, H alpha and Ca II 8542 Å, taken by the Fast Imaging Solar Spectrograph (FISS). The model successfully provides the physical plasma parameters, such as source functions, Doppler velocities, and Doppler widths in the layers of the photosphere to the chromosphere. However, it is quite expensive to apply the MLSI to a huge number of line profiles. For example, the calculating time is an hour to several hours depending on the size of the scan raster. We apply deep neural network (DNN) to the inversion code to reduce the cost of calculating the physical parameters. We train the models using pairs of absorption line profiles from FISS and their 13 physical parameters (source functions, Doppler velocities, Doppler widths in the chromosphere, and the pre-determined parameters for the photosphere) calculated from the spectral inversion code for 49 scan rasters (~2,000,000 dataset) including quiet and active regions. We use fully connected dense layers for training the model. In addition, we utilize a skip connection to avoid a problem of vanishing gradients. We evaluate the model by comparing the pairs of absorption line profiles and their inverted physical parameters from other quiet and active regions. Our result shows that the deep learning model successfully reproduces physical parameter maps of a scan raster observation per second within 15% of mean absolute percentage error and the mean squared error of 0.3 to 0.003 depending on the parameters. Taking this advantage of high performance of the deep learning model, we plan to provide the physical parameter maps from the FISS observations to understand the chromospheric plasma conditions in various solar features.
Study was made on the spectral characteristics of rock samples including bentonites collected from the northern Ulsan area. The geology of the area consists mainly of sediments of the Kyongsang Series and Bulguksa granite, the Tertiary volcanics, andesites and tuffs. Relative reflectances of meshed samples(2.5~10mm) to BaSO$_4$ are measured at 6 Landsat TM spectral windows (excluding the thermal band) with HHRR, and their reflection charactristics were analysed. In addition, three different data selection schemes including the Eulidean distance, multiple regression, and PCA weight methods were applied to the 30 TM ratio channels, derived from the above 6 bands. The selected data sets were subject to two unsupervised classification techniques(FA and ISODATA) in order to compare the effectiveness for classification of particularly bentonite from others. As a result, in ISODATA analysis the multiple regression model shows the best, followed by the Euliean distances one. The PCA weight model seems to show some confusion. In FA, though difficult for quantitative analysis, the best still seems to be the regression model. Among ratio bands, rations of band 7 or 5 against other bands represent the best contribution in classification of bentonites from others.
This study identifies efficient earthquake intensity measures (IMs) for seismic performances and fragility evaluations of the reactor containment building (RCB) in the advanced power reactor 1400 (APR1400) nuclear power plant (NPP). The computational model of RCB is constructed using the beam-truss model (BTM) for nonlinear analyses. A total of 90 ground motion records and 20 different IMs are employed for numerical analyses. A series of nonlinear time-history analyses are performed to monitor maximum floor displacements and accelerations of RCB. Then, probabilistic seismic demand models of RCB are developed for each IM. Statistical parameters including coefficient of determination (R2), dispersion (i.e. standard deviation), practicality, and proficiency are calculated to recognize strongly correlated IMs with the seismic performance of the NPP structure. The numerical results show that the optimal IMs are spectral acceleration, spectral velocity, spectral displacement at the fundamental period, acceleration spectrum intensity, effective peak acceleration, peak ground acceleration, A95, and sustained maximum acceleration. Moreover, weakly related IMs to the seismic performance of RCB are peak ground displacement, root-mean-square of displacement, specific energy density, root-mean-square of velocity, peak ground velocity, Housner intensity, velocity spectrum intensity, and sustained maximum velocity. Finally, a set of fragility curves of RCB are developed for optimal IMs.
Probabilistic model of seismic demand is the main tool used for seismic demand estimation, which is a fundamental component of the new performance-based design method. This model seeks to mathematically relate the seismic demand parameter and the ground motion intensity measure. This study is intended to use Bayesian analysis to evaluate the accuracy of the seismic demand estimation of Steel moment resisting frames (SMRFs) through a completely Bayesian method in statistical calculations. In this study, two types of intensity measures (earthquake intensity-related indices such as magnitude and distance and intensity indices related to ground motion and spectral response including peak ground acceleration (PGA) and spectral acceleration (SA)) have been used to form the models. In addition, an extensive database consisting of sixty accelerograms was used for time-series analysis, and the target structures included five SMRFs of three, six, nine, twelve and fifteen stories. The results of this study showed that for low-rise frames, first mode spectral acceleration index is sufficient to accurately estimate demand. However, for high-rise frames, two parameters should be used to increase the accuracy. In addition, adding the product of the square of earthquake magnitude multiplied by distance to the model can significantly increase the accuracy of seismic demand estimation.

The study focuses on using remote sensing to gather data about the Earth's surface, particularly in urban environments, using satellites and aircraft-mounted sensors. It aims to develop a classification framework for road targets using multi-spectral imagery. By integrating Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) with XGBoost, the study seeks to enhance the accuracy and efficiency of road target identification, aiding urban infrastructure management and transportation planning. A novel aspect of the research is the incorporation of quantum sensors, which improve the resolution and sensitivity of the data. The model achieved high predictive accuracy with an MSE of 0.025, R-squared of 0.85, RMSE of 0.158, and MAE of 0.12. The CNN model showed excellent performance in road detection with 92% accuracy, 88% precision, 90% recall, and an f1-score of 89%. These results demonstrate the model's robustness and applicability in real-world urban planning scenarios, further enhanced by data augmentation and early stopping techniques.

Generation of a Digital Elevation Model (DEM) in remote sensing is an important application. The process of DEM generation often requires interpolation. This paper is aimed to introduce a class of interpolation algorithms using spectral information, which is widely used in geophysical applications, and to examine the applicability of the method to DEM interpolation. The interpolation process can be explained in two steps. The first step is for finding spectral information from the known data and the second step is finding missing data so as to follow the spectral trend found in the previous step. The interpolation algorithm has been tested for a real DEM data and problems in the DEM interpolation are discussed.
The use of frequency-dependent spectral element matrix (or exact dynamic stiffness matrix) in structural dynamics is known to provide very accurate solutions, while reducing the number of degrees-of-freedom to resolve the computational and cost problems. Thus, in the present paper, the spectral element model is formulated for the axially moving Timoshenko beam under a uniform axial tension. The high accuracy of the present spectral element is then verified by comparing its solutions with the conventional finite element solutions and exact analytical solutions. The effects of the moving speed and axial tension on the vibration characteristics, the dispersion relation, and the stability of a moving Timoshenko beam are investigated, analytically and numerically.

In this paper, the axial-bending coupled equations of motion for an elastic layered beam are derived. From this equation of motion, the spectral element is formulated for the vibration analysis by use of the spectral element method (SEM). The modal analysis methodology for the present coupled field equations of motion is then developed. As an illustrative example, a cantilevered beam is considered. The correctness of the equations of motion developed herein is verified by gradually reducing the thickness of upper elastic layer to converge to the single layered elastic beam solutions. Also, the accuracy of spectral element is confirmed by comparing its results with the result by modal analysis.
Theoretically, spectral method has the highest accuracy among present numerical methods, but it is generally difficult to apply to complex terrains because of complex boundary conditions. Recently, spectral-element method, basically divide the domain into a set of rectangular subdomain and solve the equation at each subdomain, has been introduced. However, boundary conditions become more complex and requires more computing time, thus spectral-element method is not powerful for all complex terrain problems. In this paper, potential flow theory was intorduced to solve the air flows and diffusion phenomenon in the presence of terrain obstacles. Using the velocity potential-stream line orthogonal coordinate space, the diffusion problems of hilly terrain by pseudospectral method were solved and compared those with no terrain real scale solutions.
In this study, a speech enhancement is presented based on the utilization of well-known auditory mechanism, noise masking. The speech enhancement approach adopted here is to derive an modifier that achieves audible noise suppression. This modification selectively affects the perceptually significant spectral values, and is therefore less prone to introduction of unwanted distortions than methods that affect the complete STSA and produces more enhanced results at low SNR as well as at high SNR. The speech enhancement method adopted here needs exact estimation of the minimum specteal value per critical band because it uses only the minimum spectral value per critical band. For this, the method adopted here uses the modified spectral subtraction that is more flexible than power spectral subtraction. So, the result in experiment represented better SNR than before.
