The accurate evaluation of wind characteristics and wind-induced structural responses during a typhoon is of significant importance for bridge design and safety assessment. This paper presents an expectation maximization (EM) algorithm-based angular-linear approach for probabilistic modeling of field-measured wind characteristics. The proposed method has been applied to model the wind speed and direction data during typhoons recorded by the structural health monitoring (SHM) system instrumented on the arch Jiubao Bridge located in Hangzhou, China. In the summer of 2015, three typhoons, i.e., Typhoon Chan-hom, Typhoon Soudelor and Typhoon Goni, made landfall in the east of China and then struck the Jiubao Bridge. By analyzing the wind monitoring data such as the wind speed and direction measured by three anemometers during typhoons, the wind characteristics during typhoons are derived, including the average wind speed and direction, turbulence intensity, gust factor, turbulence integral scale, and power spectral density (PSD). An EM algorithm-based angular-linear modeling approach is proposed for modeling the joint distribution of the wind speed and direction. For the marginal distribution of the wind speed, the finite mixture of two-parameter Weibull distribution is employed, and the finite mixture of von Mises distribution is used to represent the wind direction. The parameters of each distribution model are estimated by use of the EM algorithm, and the optimal model is determined by the values of $R^2$ statistic and the Akaike's information criterion (AIC). The results indicate that the stochastic properties of the wind field around the bridge site during typhoons are effectively characterized by the proposed EM algorithm-based angular-linear modeling approach. The formulated joint distribution of the wind speed and direction can serve as a solid foundation for the purpose of accurately evaluating the typhoon-induced fatigue damage of long-span bridges.
The optical system of lens must be designed to tramsmit light over wide wavelength range and to have lower reflectivity in order to obtain higher spectral transmittance. However, the reflection color light appears due to the remain-reflection light in any optical system of lens. The wavelength of the reflection color light can be controlled by the structure of the number of layers, thickness of layer, reflective index, wavelength of incidence, and substrate etc. In the optical systems of the single layer and the double layers, the reflection color light appears in the condition of the anti-reflection of ${\lambda}s/{\lambda}$ = 1.0 by the color mixture of the remain-reflection lights in the ranges of the longer wavelength side and the shorter one of the ${\lambda}s/{\lambda}$ = 1.0, and of the double layers and triple layers, the reflection color light positioned at P1 < ${\lambda}s/{\lambda}$ < P2 appears in the condition of the antireflection of ${\lambda}s/{\lambda}$ = $PI{\ll}1$ and $P2{\gg}1$. In the optical system of the multi-layers, many antireflection points are existed at the various s/ values, and the reflection color light by the color mixture of the remain-reflection lights in the ranges except for the antireflection points.
The $Ca^{2+}-ATPase$ of sarcoplasmic reticulum (SR) was solubilized and reconstituted into a mixture of phosphatidylcholine (PC) and phosphatidylethanolamine (PE) of varying ratios in order to assess the effect of physical states of phospholipids on the incorporation and functions $Ca^{2+}-ATPase$. On the basis of the spectral data of Ca-arsenazo III, the $Ca^{2+}$ uptake of SR was increased linearly as the PC content increased in the reconstituted vesicles. The ATP hydrolysis activity also increased as PC content increased up to 25% and then decreased slightly as the PC content further increased. On the other hand the incorporation of $Ca^{2+}-ATPase$ into the reconstituted vesicls occured maximally at 25% PC and 75% PE mixture which is known to have a non-bilayer structure in reconstitution system. From the above results it is clear that preexisting defects in the lipid bilayer promote protein incorporation into the bilayer during reconstitution and lamellar structure of the bilayer facilitates the $Ca^{2+}-ATPase$ function.
Two diastereoisomers of cyclo(Pro-Tyr) have been synthesized simultaneously. The crystal structures and conformations of both cyclo($\small{L}$-Pro-$\small{L}$-Tyr) and a racemic mixture of cyclo($\small{D}$-Pro-$\small{L}$-Tyr) and cyclo($\small{L}$-Pro-$\small{D}$-Tyr), abbreviated as rac-cyclo($\small{D}$-Pro-$\small{L}$-Tyr/$\small{L}$-Pro-$\small{D}$-Tyr), have been determined by a single-crystal X-ray diffraction study at low temperature. The crystals of rac-cyclo($\small{D}$-Pro-$\small{L}$-Tyr/$\small{L}$-Pro-$\small{D}$-Tyr) belong to orthorhombic space group $Pna2_1$ with a = 10.755 (1), b = 12.699 (1), c = 9.600 (1) ${\AA}$ and Z = 4. The tyrosine side chain is folded towards the diketopiperazine (DKP) ring. The DKP ring adopts a twist boat conformation with pseudo symmetry $C_{2v}$. The pyrrolidine ring has an envelope conformation with the N5, C4, C7 and C8 atoms in a plane. The crystal of rac-cyclo($\small{D}$-Pro-$\small{L}$-Tyr/$\small{L}$-Pro-$\small{D}$-Tyr) is stabilized by hydrogen bonds between amide N2-H2 and carbonyl oxygen O2 in the neighbor. The hydroxyl group of tyrosine residue is also hydrogen bonded to the oxygen of the carbonyl group of the DKP ring in the next molecule. The spectroscopic properties of both isomers are also described.
ASTER image has some advantages for classification such as 15 spectral bands and 15m ${\sim}$ 90m spatial resolution. However, in the classification using general remote sensing image, shadow areas are often classified into water area. It is very difficult to divide shadow and water. Because reflectance characteristics of water is similar to characteristics of shadow. Many land cover items are consisted in one pixel which is 15m spatial resolution. Nowadays, very high resolution satellite image (IKONOS, Quick Bird) and Digital Surface Model (DSM) by air borne laser scanner can also be used. In this study, mixed pixel analysis of ASTER image has carried out using IKONOS image and DSM. For mixed pixel analysis, high accurated geometric correction was required. Image matching method was applied for generating GCP datasets. IKONOS image was rectified by affine transform. After that, one pixel in ASTER image should be compared with corresponded 15×15 pixel in IKONOS image. Then, training dataset were generated for mixed pixel analysis using visual interpretation of IKONOS image. Finally, classification will be carried out based on Linear Mixture Model. Shadow extraction might be succeeded by the classification. The extracted shadow area was validated using shadow image which generated from 1m${\sim}$2m spatial resolution DSM. The result showed 17.2% error was occurred in mixed pixel. It might be limitation of ASTER image for shadow extraction because of 8bit quantization data.

The crude ethanol extracts (stem and fruits), their fractions and two triterpenes, $\beta$-Amyrin and 12-Oleanene 3$\beta$, 21$\beta$-diol, isolated as a mixture from the chloroform soluble fraction of an ethanolic extract of Duranta repens stem, were evaluated for antibacterial, antifungal activities by the disc diffusion method and cytotoxicity by brine shrimp lethality bioassay. The structures of the two compounds were confirmed by IR, $^1H$-NMR, $^{13}C$-NMR and LC-MS spectral data. The chloroform soluble fraction of stem and ethanol extract of fruits possess potent antishigellosis activity and also exhibited moderate activity against some pathogenic bacteria and fungi but the isolated compound 1 (mixture of $\beta$-Amyrin and 12-Oleanene 3$\beta$, 21$\beta$-diol) showed mild to moderate inhibitory activity to microbial growth. The minimum inhibitory concentrations (MICs) of the extracts (stem and fruits), their fractions and compound 1 were found to be in the range of 32$\sim$128 ${\mu}g/ml$. The chloroform soluble fractions of stem and ethanol extract of fruit showed significant cytotoxicity with $LC_{50}$ value of 0.94 ${\mu}g/ml$ and 0.49 ${\mu}g/ml$, respectively against brine shrimp larvae.
The construction of hyperspectral test-bed dataset is essential for the effective performance of hyperspectral image for various applications. In this study, we analyzed the technical points for generating of optimal hyperspectral test-bed site for hyperspectral sensors and the efficiency of hyperspectral test-bed site. In this regard regions we analyzed existing construction techniques for generating test-bed site in domestic and foreign, and designed the test-bed site to acquire images from the airborne hyperspectral sensor. To produce a reference data from the image of constructed test-bed site, this study applied vicarious correction as a pre-processing and analyzed its efficiency. The result presented that it was ideal to use tarp for the vicarious correction, but it is possible to use the materials with constant spectral reflectance or with relatively low variance of spectral reflectance. The test-bed data taken in this study can be employed as the reference of domestic and foreign studies for hyperspectral image processing.
This paper proposes a target speech extraction which restores speech signal of a target speaker form noisy convolutive mixture of speech and an interference source. We assume that the target speaker is known and his/her utterances are available in the training time. Incorporating the additional information extracted from the training utterances into the separation, we combine convolutive blind source separation(CBSS) and non-negative decomposition techniques, e.g., probabilistic latent variable model. The nonnegative decomposition is used to learn a set of bases from the spectrogram of the training utterances, where the bases represent the spectral information corresponding to the target speaker. Based on the learned spectral bases, our method provides two postprocessing steps for CBSS. Channel selection step finds a desirable output channel from CBSS, which dominantly contains the target speech. Reconstruct step recovers the original spectrogram of the target speech from the selected output channel so that the remained interference source and background noise are suppressed. Experimental results show that our method substantially improves the separation results of CBSS and, as a result, successfully recovers the target speech.
The intensity of stormwater runoff is particularly acute across cities located in arid climates. During flash floods loose sediment and pollutants are typically transported across sun-hardened surfaces contributing to widespread degradation of water quality. Rapid, dense urbanization exacerbates the problem by creating continuous areas of impervious surfaces, perforated only by a few green patches. Our work demonstrates how the latest techniques in remote sensing can be used to routinely measure urban land cover types, impervious cover, and vegetated areas. In addition, multiple regression models can then infer relationships between urban land use and land cover types with stormwater quality data, initially sampled at discrete monitoring sites, and then extrapolated annually across an arid city; in our case, the city of Phoenix in Arizona, USA. Results reveal that from 30 storm event samples, solids and heavy metal pollutants were found to be highly related with general impervious surfaces; in particular, with industrial and commercial land use types. Repercussions stemming from this work include support for public policies that advocate environmental sustainability and the more recent focus on urban livability. Also, advocacy for new urban construction and re-development that both steer away from vast unbroken impervious surfaces, in place of more fragmented landscapes that harmonize built and green spaces.
In this study, to develop highly sensitive radiation sensors, $CaSO_4$ : Tm phosphors and its disc-type TLD elements embedded PTFE(polytetrafluoroethylene) are fabricated. The highest sensitivity of $CaSO_4$ : Tm phosphors is obtained when phosphors have been doped with 0.5mol % Tm and sintered in atmosphere at $600^{\circ}C$ for two hours. Fabricated disc-type elements are made from a homogeneous mixture of phosphors and PTFE powder. They are first cold-pressed and then polymerized at $370^{\circ}C$ in air for one hour. The dose dependence of the prepared $CaSO_4$ : Tm TLD radiation sensors is linear within the range of $100{\mu}Gy{\sim}10Gy$ for X-rays and ${\gamma}-rays$. The response of $CaSO_4$ : Tm to 30keV X-rays is ten times higher than that of 1.25MeV $^{60}Co\;{\gamma}-rays$. The fading rate of the main peak is about 2% per a month. The spectral peaks of TL emission spectrum are at about 350nm and 475nm. The $CaSO_4$ : Tm TLD radiation sensors prepared in this work may be used as radiation dosimeter for personal and environmental monitoring because of their high sensitivity and little fading.
