Hyperspectral data consists of more than 200 spectral bands that are highly correlated. In order to utilize hyperspectral data for classification, dimensional reduction or feature extraction is desired. By applying feature extraction, computational complexity of classification can be reduced and classification accuracy may be improved. In this paper, a genetic algorithm based feature extraction technique is proposed. Measure from discriminant analysis is utilized as optimization criterion. A subset of spectral bands is selected by genetic algorithm. Dimension of feature space is further reduced by linear transformation. Feasibility of the proposed technique is evaluated with AVIRIS data.
Hyperspectral data has a great advantage to classify various surface materials that are spectrally similar. In this study, we attempted to classify man-made materials in urban area using Hyperion data. Hyperion imagery of Seoul was initially processed to minimize radiometric distortions caused by sensor and atmosphere. Using color aerial photographs. we defined seven man-made surfaces (concrete, asphalt road. railroad, buildings, roof, soil, shadow) for the classification in Seoul. The hyperspectral data showed the potential to identify those manmade materials that were difficult to be classified by multispectral data. However. the classification of road and buildings was not quite satisfactory due to the relatively low spatial resolution of Hyperion image. Further, the low radiometric quality of Hyperion sensor was another limitation for the application in urban area.
Improvement of the classification accuracy is one of the major concerns in the field of remote sensing application research in recent years. Previous research shows that the accuracy of the conventional classification methods based only on the original spectral information were usually unsatisfied and need to be refined by manual edit. This present paper describes a method of combining the image processing, ancillary data (such as digital elevation model) and expert knowledge (especially the knowledge of local professionals) to improve the efficiency and accuracy of the satellite image classification in hilly land. Firstly, the Landsat TM data were geo-referenced. Secondly, the individual bands of the image were intensitynormalized and the normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) image was also generated. Thirdly, a set of sample pixels (collected from field survey) were utilized to discover their corresponding DN (digital number) ranges in the NDVI image, and to explore the relationships between land use type and its corresponding spectral features . Then, using the knowledge discovered from previous steps as well as knowledge from local professionals, with the support of GIS technology and the ancillary data, a set of conditional statements were applied to perform the TM imagery classification. The results showed that the integration of image processing and spatial analysis functions in GIS improved the overall classification result if compared with the conventional methods.
Increasing of impervious surface resulting from urban development has negative impacts on urban environment. Therefore, it is absolutely necessary to estimate and quantify the temporal and spatial aspects of impervious area for study of urban environment. In many cases, conventional image classification methods have been used for analysis of impervious surface fraction. However, the conventional classification methods have shortcoming in estimating impervious surface. The DN value of the each pixel in imagery is mixed result of spectral character of various objects which exist in surface. But conventional image classification methods force each pixel to be allocated only one class. And also after land cover classification, it is requisite to additional work of calculating impervious percentage value in each class item. This study used the spectral mixture analysis to overcome this weakness of the conventional classification methods. Four endmembers, vegetation, soil, low albedo and high albedo were selected to compose pure land cover objects. Impervious surface fraction was estimated by adding low albedo and high albedo. The study area is the Tanchon watershed which has been rapidly changed by the intensive development of housing. Landsat imagery from 1988, 1994 to 2001 was used to estimate impervious surface fraction. The results of this study show that impervious surface fraction increased from $15.6\%$ in 1988, $20.1\%$ in 1994 to $24\%$ in 2001. Results indicate that impervious surface fraction can be estimated by spectral mixture analysis with promising accuracy.
Remote sensing data is collected and analyzed to enhance understanding of the terrestrial surface. Since Landsat satellite was launched in 1972, many researches using multispectral data has been achieved. Recently, with the availability of airborne and satellite hyperspectral data, the study on hyperspectral data are being increased. It is known that as the number of spectral bands of high-spectral resolution data increases, the ability to detect more detailed cases should also increase, and the classification accuracy should increase as well. In this paper, we classified the hyperspectral and multispectral data and tested the classification accuracy. The MASTER(MODIS/ASTER Airborne Simulator, 50channels, 0.4~13$\mu$m) and Landsat TM(7channels) imagery including Yeong-Gwang area were used and we adjusted the classification items in several cases and tested their classification accuracy through statistical comparison. As a result of this study, it is shown that hyperspectral data offer more information than multispectral data.
Music recordings have been digitalized such that huge size of music database is available to the public. Thus, the automatic classification system of music genres is required to effectively manage the growing music database. Mel-Frequency Cepstral Coefficient (MFCC) is a popular feature vector for genre classification. In this paper, the combined super-vector with Decorrelated Filter Bank (DFB) and Octave-based Spectral Contrast (OSC) using texture windows is processed by Support Vector Machine (SVM) for genre classification. Even with the lower order of the feature vector, the proposed super-vector produces 4.2 % improved classification accuracy compared with the conventional Marsyas system.

This study explores development of prediction model for seismic site classification through the integration of machine learning techniques with horizontal-to-vertical spectral ratio (HVSR) methodologies. To improve model accuracy, the research employs outlier detection methods and, synthetic minority over-sampling technique (SMOTE) for data balance, and evaluates using seven machine learning models using seismic data from KiK-net. Notably, light gradient boosting method (LGBM), gradient boosting, and decision tree models exhibit improved performance when coupled with SMOTE, while Multiple linear regression (MLR) and Support vector machine (SVM) models show reduced efficacy. Outlier detection techniques significantly enhance accuracy, particularly for LGBM, gradient boosting, and voting boosting. The ensemble of LGBM with the isolation forest and SMOTE achieves the highest accuracy of 0.91, with LGBM and local outlier factor yielding the highest F1-score of 0.79. Consistently outperforming other models, LGBM proves most efficient for seismic site classification when supported by appropriate preprocessing procedures. These findings show the significance of outlier detection and data balancing for precise seismic soil classification prediction, offering insights and highlighting the potential of machine learning in optimizing site classification accuracy.
This paper proposes an automatic genre classification system for Korean traditional music. The Proposed system accepts and classifies queried input music as one of the six musical genres such as Royal Shrine Music, Classcal Chamber Music, Folk Song, Folk Music, Buddhist Music, Shamanist Music based on music contents. In general, content-based music genre classification consists of two stages - music feature vector extraction and Pattern classification. For feature extraction. the system extracts 58 dimensional feature vectors including spectral centroid, spectral rolloff and spectral flux based on STFT and also the coefficient domain features such as LPC, MFCC, and then these features are further optimized using SFS method. For Pattern or genre classification, k-NN, Gaussian, GMM and SVM algorithms are considered. In addition, the proposed system adopts MFC method to settle down the uncertainty problem of the system performance due to the different query Patterns (or portions). From the experimental results. we verify the successful genre classification performance over $97{\%}$ for both the k-NN and SVM classifier, however SVM classifier provides almost three times faster classification performance than the k-NN.
This paper discusses the capabilities of airborne remotely sensed data to detect and classify forest damades. In this work the AMS (Aircraft Multiband Scanner) was used to obtain digital imagery at 300m altitude for forest damage inventory in the Black Forest of Germany. MSS(Multispectral Scanner) digital numbers were converted to spectral emittance and radiance values in 8 spectral bands from the visible to the thermal infrared and submitted to a maximum-likelihood classification for : (1) tree species ; and. (2) damage classes. As expected, the resulted, the results of MSS data with high spatial resolution 0.75m$\times$0.75m enabled the detection and identification of single trees with different damages and were nearly equivalent to the truth information of ground checked data.

In this paper we apply a discriminative weight training employing power spectral flatness measure (PSFM) to a statistical model-based voice activity detection (VAD) in various noise environments. In our approach, the VAD decision rule is expressed as the geometric mean of optimally weighted likelihood ratio test (LRT) based on a minimum classification error (MCE) method which is different from the previous works in th at different weights are assigned to each frequency bin and noise environments depending on PSFM. According to the experimental results, the proposed approach is found to be effective for the statistical model-based VAD using the LRT.
