Optical profile and spectral absorption of suspended solids in waters of Sanya bay was measured on August 8-14, 2003. Optical profile was taken by using MicroPro optical profile. Apparent optical indexes, vertical diffuse attenuation coefficient ($K_d$) and water leaving radiance (Lw), were calculated. $K_d$ at the blue end of the spectrum was greater than that at the red end of the spectrum in waters near Sanya River mouth, however, in waters near open sea, $K_d$ at the blue end of the spectrum was smaller than that at the red end of the spectrum. Distribution of water leaving radiance was relatively higher in waters near Sanya River mouth, but relatively weaker in near open sea water. Spectral absorption of suspended particulates was also measured. Results showed that the spectral absorption of chlorophyll a was greater in waters near Sanya river mouth, but relatively weaker in waters near open sea, which indicated higher concentration of phytoplankton in waters near Sanya river mouth. Except for water at the 5th sampling station, the ratio of spectral absorption of chlorophyll a to total suspended particulates in surface waters was greater than that in bottom waters at all stations.
The study is to analize the spectral characteristics of metamorphic rocks by their spectral reflectance curves obtained from CARY 17-D Spectrophotometer. Coarse grained rocks generally show strong absorption at 1.4 and 1.9 $\mu\textrm{m}$ due to preserved water inclusion in quartz of feldspar. The basic rocks show a broad absorption due to Fe$^{++}$ ion rich in mafic minerals. Strong absorption near 2.0$^+\mu\textrm{m}$ suggests existence of carbonate or clay minerals.
The study was performed to recognize the most preferable spectral chennels for discriminating geological materials using the portable radiometer. The portable radiometer covers the visible and short infrared regions from approximately 0.4 to 2.5 microns which are coincided with Landsat TM, and the rock samples used for the study are pyrophylites, andesites, granite, granodiorite and silicified sedimentary rocks which are collected in Yangsan-Dongrae fault area. The analysis of the rock sample provides a preliminary basis for determining the wavelength regions showing diagnostic spectral features and for discriminating hydrothermal altered rocks from the unaltered rocks. The measurement of spectral of spectral reflectance for the rock samples was carried out in the laboratory which environment condition such as temperature, light sources, and humidity are constant. The analysis of the measured data was based on correlation between the reflectance value of the rock samples, and the follow discriptions are output of the study. 1) Pyrophyllite shows absorption at 0.83 $\mu\textrm{m}$ due to the oxidation of pyrite, and absorption at 2.22 $\mu\textrm{m}$ due to OH. 2) The altered rocks have generally higher reflectance than the unaltered rocks. 3) The ratio mesurement of pyrophyllites shows strong absorption at band 5/6 and band 6/4(in Landsat TM 5/7, 7/4). The ratio 1/5(Landsat TM 1/5) may be useful to discriminate andesite from the granite.
The Cassini/Visual Infrared Mapping Spectrometer (VIMS) observed the sun through the atmosphere of Titan, and provided vertically-resolved 63 spectra from 49 km to 987 km for the 1 - 5 micron range (Bellucci, 2008). Bellucci et al. (2009) analyzed selected spectral ranges where the band absorptions of $CH_4$ and CO are strong by constructing synthetic spectra including $CH_4$ and CO lines, but without including haze absorptions in their synthetic spectra. Kim et al. (2011) and Sim et al. (2013) were able to extract detailed spectral features of fundamental (Dv = 1) and overtone (Dv = 2) bands of the haze from the VIMS spectra by excluding the adjacent influences of strong $CH_4$ absorptions using a radiative transfer program, which includes effects of absorption and emission of lines of these molecules, and absorption and scattering of haze particles. In this presentation, we extend our detailed analyses to other remaining wavelengths in order to provide the spectral characteristics of the Titanian haze for the entire 1 - 5 micron range and to identify any additional haze spectral features and an unidentified feature near 4.3 microns reported by Bellucci et al. (2009).

WSGGM based low-resolution spectral model for calculating radiation transfer in combustion gases is applied to estimate self-absorption of radiation energy in one-dimensional opposed flow flames. Development of such a model is necessary in order to enable detailed chemistry-radiation interaction calculations including self-absorption. Database of band model parameters which can be applied to various one-dimensional opposed flow diffusion and partially premixed flames is created. For the validation of the model and database, low resolution spectral intensities at fuel exit side are calculated and compared with the results of a narrow band model with those based on the Curtis-Godson approximation. Good agreements have been found between them. The resulting radiation model is coupled to the OPPDIF code to calculate the self-absorption of radiant energy and compared with the results of an optically thin calculation and the results of a discrete ordinates method in conjunction with the statistical narrow band model. Significant self-absorption of radiation is found for the flames considered here particularly for the fuel side of the reacting zone. However, the self-absorption does not have significant effects on the flame structure in this case. Even in the case of the low velocity diffusion flame and the partially premixed flame of low equivalence ratio, the effects of self-absorption of radiation on the flame temperature and production of minor species are not significant.

The solar chromosphere can be observed well through strong absorption lines. We infer the physical parameters of chromospheric plasmas from these lines using a multilayer spectral inversion. This is a new technique of spectral inversion. We assume that the atmosphere consists of a finite number of layers. In each layer the absorption profile is constant and the source function is allowed to vary with optical depth. Specifically, we consider a three-layer model of radiative transfer where the lowest layer is identified with the photosphere and the two upper layers are identified with the chromosphere. This three-layer model is fully specified by 13 parameters. Four parameters can be fixed to prescribed values, and one parameter can be determined from the analysis of a satellite photospheric line. The remaining eight parameters are determined from a constrained least-squares fitting. We applied the multilayer spectral inversion to the spectral data of the Hα and the Ca II 854.21 nm lines taken in a quiet region by the Fast Imaging Solar Spectrograph (FISS) of the Goode Solar Telescope (GST). We find that our model successfully fits most of the observed profiles and produces regular maps of the model parameters. We conclude that our multilayer inversion is useful to infer chromospheric plasma parameters on the Sun.
Using a field spectrometer having a spectral range of 0.4$\mu\textrm{m}$~2.5$\mu\textrm{m}$ with a spectral resolution of 1nm, the researchers measured the reflectance of granite, andesitic rocks, sedimentary rocks, and pyrophyllite ore in the Ungsang area, Kyungsang Basin, South Korea. Spectral characteristics of the geological media were investigated from the analysis. The in-situ measured sites were selected in well exposed rock outcrops. In case of unfavorable weather conditions, rocks were sampled and remeasured under natural solar condition. The reflectance of field data was measurd at three sistes for granite, six sites for andesitic rock three sites for sedimentary rocks, and two sites for pyrophyllite ore. The vibrational absorption bands for pyrophyllite are detected in the spectral range of 2.0$\mu\textrm{m}$~2.5$\mu\textrm{m}$. The absorption band for granites in study area is not distinctive. The reflectance measured under normal field conditions showed strong absorption at wavelengths of 1.4$\mu\textrm{m}$ and 1.9$\mu\textrm{m}$ due to the effect of moisture in the atmosphere. After the bands of 1.4$\mu\textrm{m}$ and 1.9$\mu\textrm{m}$ were removed, Hull Quotient method was applied to characterize absorption bands. The reflectances of field data were calculated to estimate the band ratio corresponding to the Landsat TM and EOS Terra ASTER. The researchers suggest here that the TM band2, band3, band4, and band7 or ASTER band2, band3, band4, and band9 are the best combination for discriminating outcrops. The researchers tested and demonstrated using a Landsat TM image in the study area. For geologic applications, decorrelation stretch is also an effective tool to enhance the exposed rock mass in images.

For the investigation of the mechanism of photoelectric characteristics of a hydrogenated amorphous silicon thin film transistor(a-Si:H TFT), spectral characteristics of various backlights were analyzed in terms of the photon energy at each wavelength. Photon energy spectral characteristics were obtained through the multiplication of each photon energy and spectral intensities of backlights at each wavelength and the total photon energies were obtained by the integration of the photon energy spectrums. From the comparison of the experimental photo leakage current and the calculated photon energy, it was possible to conclude that the absorption of illuminated backlight to a-Si:H layer and the generation of electrons and holes are mainly carried out at the wavelength less than 500 nm as described in previous reports.
In this paper, we describe a study on the relationship between spectral sensitization and photographic characteristics of color paper. The photographic emulsion used in this study is a green-sensitizing emulsion. U.V maximum absorption peak value of 9-phenyl-5,5'-diphenyl-3,3'-bis(3-sulfopropyl)benzoxazolo carbocyanine triethyl ammonium salt was observed 507nm, and wedge spectrograms maximum peak value of color paper added dye to photographic emulsion was shown 553nm. As compared with the absorption peak of the dye in methanol solution, the sensitizing peaks of 9-phenyl-5,5'-diphenyl-3,3'-bis(3-sulfopropyl)benzoxazolo carbocyanine triethyl ammonium salt have red shifts of 46nm. The photographic characteristics of green-sensitizing emulsion were obtained contrast(2.6), speed(48-57), fog(0.08). Therefore, benzoxazolo carbocyanine dye is of industrial importance as green-sensitizing dye in the spectral sensitization of photographic emulsion.

This study investigated mineralogy, spectral characteristics and heavy metal contamination including Cd, Ni, Al, Fe, Mn and S for white precipitation in Miin falls based on XRF, XRD, and spectrometer. As a result, Al concentration was abnormally high at all samples, and most of the samples showed high contamination level in Cd and Ni. XRD results detected quartz, kaolinite, rhomboclase, aluminocoquimbite, and gibbsite which infers that heavy metal elements are distributed by adsorption with clay minerals. Spectral characteristics of white precipitation can be described by increasing pattern of reflectance in visible spectrum and decreasing pattern of reflectance in longer wave length including near infrared and shortwave infrared spectrum. The absorption features reveals that spectral characteristics of white precipitation is mainly controlled by kaolinite, rhomboclase, aluminocoquimbite, and gibbsite. The relationship between heavy metal concentration and absorption depth showed high positive correlation for Al concentration and absorption feature at 2202 nm of Al-OH absorption. This spectral characteristics indicates that absorption depth could be effectively used for estimation of heavy metal concentration.
