SAR 영상의 SPECKLE 잡음 제거 (EFFICIENT SPECKLE NOISE FILTERING OF SAR IMAGES)

  • SAR 영상은 speckle 잡음의 multiplicative 특성으로 인해 영상 해석에 많은 제약을 받고 있다. Speckle 잡음을 제거하기 위한 방법은 크게 여러 개의 독립 영상을 multi-looks 처리 방법과 디지털 영상 처리 기술을 이용하는 방법으로 speckle 잡음 특성에 따른 비선형필터의 적용이다. 본 연구에서는 국지적 통계 자료를 이용하는 LEE와 Refined LEE 필터 그리고 speckle 자체의 통계 특성을 이용하는 EPOS(Edge Preserving Optimal Speckle)필터를 이용하여 speckle 잡음을 제거하여 SAR 영상의 화질을 개선하고 그 결과를 기존의 mean과 median 필터와 비교하였다.

Edge Preserving Speckle Reduction of Ultrasound Image with Morphological Adaptive Median Filtering

  • Speckle noise reduction for ultrasound CT image using morphological adaptive median filtering based on edge preservation is presented in this paper. Speckle noise is multiplicative feature and causes ultrasound image to degrade widely from transducer. An input image is classified into edge region and homogeneous region in preprocessing. The speckle is reduced by morphological operation on the 2D gray scale by using convolution and correlation, and edges are preserved. The adaptive median is processed to reduce an impulse noise to preserve edges. As the result, MAM of the proposed method enhances the image to about 10% in comparison with Winner filter by Edge Preservation Index and PSNR, and 10% to only adaptive median filtering.

레이더 영상자료의 Speckle 필터링 효과 (Effects of Speckle Filtering on Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) Imagery)

  • Speckle 잡음은 레이더 영상자료의 활용에 적지 않은 장애가 될 수 있으며, 따라서 이 문제를 해결하기 위한 노력이 꾸준히 진행되어 왔다. 최근 몇 년 동안 레이더 영상센서를 탑재한 인공 위성들이 발사되었고 그 어느 때보다 이 자료의 활용에 대한 관심이 고조되고 있다. 본 연구의 목적은 레이더영상의 speckle 억제를 위한 기본적 개념의 이해와 아울러 기존에 발표된 여러 가지의 speckle 필터의 효과를 비교하고자 한다. 1995년 RADARSAT위성에서 얻어진 수도권 지역의 SAR 영상자료에서 표면상태가 다양한 피복형을 포함하는 두 곳의 연구지역을 선정하였다. 영상의 잡음제거에 널리 사용되어 온 평균필터와 증앙값필터와 함께, 레이더 speckle모델을 기초로 개발된 시그마필터, 국소통계치필터, 그리고 자기상관필터 등 총 5개의 필터가 사용되었다. 필터링 결과는 smoothing효과와 경계선유지효과에 중점을 두어 비교되었다. 전체적으로 speckle모델을 기초로 개발된 국소통계치필터와 자기상관필터가 다른 필터에 비하여 다른 피복형간의 경계를 흐리지 않고 speckle을 억제하여 영상의 균질감(smoothing) 효과가 우수하게 나타났다.

  • The object detection capabilities of ultrasonic imaging systems are limited by the ability of the detection process to distinguish the resolved object signals from backscattered speckle noise. It has been shown that the phase component of the Fourier transform of the speckle noise is random. Based on this property. we propose a new algorithm for distinguishing between speckle and specular targets. The proposed algorithm is implemented by taking the Fourier transform of the received signal, low-pass filtering the phase, and taking the inverse Fourier transform of the filtered phase to enhance specular reflectors and reduce speckle in the image. Simulations and experiments using phantoms confirm the algorithm yielding significant reduction of speckle noise.

  • Speckle noise reduction for power Doppler ventricle coherent image for restoration and enhancement using Fast Wavelet Transform with multi-thresholding and multi-filtering on the each subbands is presented. Fast Wavelet Transform divides into low frequency component image to high frequency component image to be multi-resolved. Speckle noise is located on high frequency component in multi-resolution image mainly. A Doppler ventricle image is transformed and inversed with separated threshold function and filtering from low to high resolved images for restoration to utilize visualization for ventricle diagnosis. The experimental result shows that the proposed method has better performance in comparison with the conventional method.

Filtering Effect in Supervised Classification of Polarimetric Ground Based SAR Images

  • We investigated the speckle filtering effect in supervised classification of the C-band polarimetric Ground Based SAR image data. Wishart classification method was used for the supervised classification of the polarimetric GB-SAR image data and total of 6 kinds of speckle filters were applied before supervised classification, which are boxcar, Gaussian, Lopez, IDAN, the refined Lee, and the refined Lee sigma filters. For each filters, we changed the filtering kernel size from $3{\times}3$ to $9{\times}9$ to investigate the filtering size effect also. The refined Lee filter with the kernel size of bigger than $5{\times}5$ showed the best result for the Wishart supervised classification of polarimetric GB-SAR image data. The result also showed that the type of trees could be discriminated by Wishart supervised classification of polarimetric GB-SAR image data.

TVG 필터를 이용한 소나 영상의 스펙클 노이즈 제거 (Speckle Denoising of Sonar Image using TVG Filter)

  • 본 논문은 PDF 웨이블릿 변환과 TVG 필터를 이용한 Sonar Image 의 스펙클 노이즈 제거에 관한 연구이다. TVG 필터는 해저면 바닥의 불규칙한 물체를 식별하는데 방해되는 Speckle Noise를 시간적이고 귀납적인 관찰의 결과로 얻어진 Gain 값으로 제거 한다. 실험 결과, 제안된 필터는 Speckle Noise를 약 90% 제거하여 보다 향상된 해저 영상 식별이 가능하다.

Speckle Noise Reduction and Edge Enhancement in Ultrasound Images Based on Wavelet Transform

  • For B-mode ultrasound images, we propose an image enhancement algorithm based on a multi-resolution approach, which consists of edge enhancing and noise reducing procedures. Edge enhancement processing is applied sequentially to coarse-to-fine resolution images obtained from wavelet-transformed data. In each resolution, the structural features of each pixel are examined through eigen analysis. Then, if a pixel belongs to an edge region, we perform two-step filtering: that is, directional smoothing is conducted along the tangential direction of the edge to improve continuity and directional sharpening is conducted along the normal direction to enhance the contrast. In addition, speckle noise is alleviated by proper attenuation of the wavelet coefficients of the homogeneous regions at each band. This region-based speckle-reduction scheme is differentiated from other methods that are based on the magnitude statistics of the wavelet coefficients. The proposed algorithm enhances edges regardless of changes in the resolution of an image, and the algorithm efficiently reduces speckle noise without affecting the sharpness of the edge. Hence, compared with existing algorithms, the proposed algorithm considerably improves the subjective image quality without providing any noticeable artifacts.

  • A two-dimensional velocity map of natural convection in a rectangular cavity is determined using laser speckle photography. Isovelocity contour drawn by spatial filtering and local velocity by pointwise method are obtained. These results are compared with those of numerical analysis.
