Yew (Taxus cuspidata Sieb.) chose that grow as medicine, food, decorative plant in Korea's Kyong-Gi province surroundings. Extracts of yew extracted leaf of 250 g and stems of 300 g with 1,3-butylene glycol (1,3-BG), propylene glycol (PG) and water. As results, external appearance of leaf extract of yew was slightly brown clear extract. The pH was 5.3$\pm$0.5, and specific gravity was 1.012$\pm$0.05, and refractive index was 1.375$\pm$0.05. Also, appearance of stem's extract was slightly brown clear extract, and the pH was 5.4$\pm$0.5, and specific gravity was 1.016$\pm$0.05, and refractive index was 1.358$\pm$0.05. Oil of yew separated from seeds, and extracted polysaccharide high purity from fruits. As a result, specific gravity of oil was 0.987, and obtained 40% of yield. Total polyphenols amount of yew extract is detected 0.563% in leaves, 0.325% in stems, whereas total tannins amount contained 0.054% and 0.037% each in leaves and stems. As effect in cosmetics, the anti-oxidative effect by DPPH method is 75.0% in leaves, and stems was 64.0%. Collagen synthesis rate was shown high activity by 54.16% in stem's extract, 33.18% in leaves' extract. Also, PPE-inhibitory activities were 13.7% and 23.5% each in leaves and stems. Anti-inflammatory effect of yew seed oil displayed superior effect of 41 % than control. Polysaccharide's molecular weight that is gotten from fruits was 5$\times$10$^4$~ 3$\times$10$^{5}$ dalton, and got 20.0$\pm$5% of yield.
In a batch fermentation process using carrot cell suspension culture, the effect of initial concentration of limiting nutrients(glucose and phosphate) on the specific growth rate and cell yield was investigated. The period of exponential growth is about 2 days and the consumption of glucose and phosphate in culture medium was very small when the initial concentrations of glucose and phosphate are 1.49g/1 ~ 3.01g/l and 0.08 ~ 0.32mM respectively. The specific growth rate of cells ranged from TEX>$0.15\;day^{-1}$ to $0.3\;day^{-1}$ irregularly. And the ratio of the initial concentration of glucose to phosphate did not affect the specific growth rate and the cell yield. The increase on cells had linear relationship with the consumption of limiting nutrients. Therefore, the increase of cells was found to be more influenced by the concentration of glucose than that of phosphate.

This experiment was carried out to investigate the competitive ability and the interaction of each species in ten mono-and binary-associations of four forage species; orchardgrass, tall fescus, ladino clover, and alfalfa. Each species was grown in intra- and interspecific stands in large pots for one year. And samplings of shoot and root were taken in Spring, Summer, and fall clipping stages. Intra- and interspecific competition was compared and evaluated by expected yield, aggressivity, relative yield total(RYT), compensation index(CI), general combining ability(GCA), and specific combining ability (SCA) with shoot and root dry matter production of each species in monoculture and binary mixture. The forage yield was high in two grass species and the mixture of them, but low in two legume species and the mixture of them. The mixture of tall fescue-ladino clover was evaluated as a productive association with a high PYT(1.05) and a high SCA(0.79), and tall fescue was a more aggressive species in it. Each of grass-grass and legume-legume mixture was less aggressive between two species and lower SCAs than grass-legume mixtures. Especially, orchardgrass was the most agressive species and alfalfa was the least, but tall fescue had the highest GCA and ladino clover had the lowest in shoot competition. Also in root, tall fescue- ladino clover mixture was a good match with a high RYT(l.12) and a high SCA (0.60), and orchardgrass was highest in aggressivity. However, orchardgrass had the highest GCA in root while tall fescue had the highest in shoot.
This study was conducted to compare the root weight, yield, quality of fresh and red ginseng roots and crude saponin content in roots between fixing light transmittance(Control) and changing light transmittance(C.L.T.) during the ginseng growing seasons. The root weight in C.L.T. was higher than control by $35{\%}$ in early growth stage, $28{\%}$ in middle growth stage and $26{\%}$ in late growth stage in 6 years old ginseng plant. Root yield per 10a in C.L.T. was increased about $40{\%}$ as compared with that of control, also 1st and 2nd grade of fresh ginseng roots in C.L.T. was higher $(50.3{\%})$ compared with that $(12.9{\%})$ of control. The specific gravity of ginseng roots grown under the C.L.T. was exhibited the significant difference than control during the growing season in 4 and 6 years old ginseng plants. Red ginseng quality in C.L.T. was not only improved remarkably due to the increasement of heaven and earth grade red ginseng but also increased in crude saponin content than control. Therefore it needs to change the light transmittance(increasing light during low temperature periods and decreasing light during high temperature period) during the growing season for high yield and good qualities of ginseng roots.

As the demand for processing potatoes increases, imports of raw potatoes and potato products are increasing, so it is necessary to expand potato production as raw materials for processing in Korea. Potato varieties for processing that can be grown in fall have been developed, but research on cultivation technology and processing quality management technology to improve chip processing quality is very insufficient. Therefore, this study was conducted to investigate the optimal harvest time by investigating the quantity and chipping characteristics of potato chips during autumn cultivation. As the test varieties, the chip processing varieties "Saebong", "Eunsun", and "Geumnaru" were used, and the potato cultivation site was the Seocheon-gun Test field (214 Gaeya-ri) of the Chungcheongnam-do. The test treatment was at harvest time after spring cultivation, and the potatoes were harvested at 70, 80, 90, and 100 days after sowing based on the sowing time. The investigation items were potato productivity (total yield, yield of standard processing, and number of tubers) and chip-processing characteristics (chip color, dry matter content, glucose content, etc.). As a result of examining the yield characteristics according to the harvest time, statistical significance was not found according to the treatment. The total yield (ton/ha) was 27.5 to 30.5, and there was no significant difference depending on the time of 70 to 100 days after harvest. The standard quantity for processing (yield of 81-250g potatoes per unit) also showed a similar trend. In chipping characteristics according to harvest time, statistical significance was high in specific gravity and glucose content. The specific gravity was highest at 1.077 at 70 days after harvest, and the glucose (mg/dL) content was the lowest at 37.5 at 80 days after harvest. Statistical significance was not recognized, but chip color (L value) was the highest at 64.4 at 70 days after harvest. Therefore, it is judged that the optimal harvesting time for chip processing is 70 to 80 days after sowing.
In this study, the feasibility of reusing the eluent was confirmed by monitoring its specific gravity during the chromatographic purification of paclitaxel from plant cell cultures. The specific gravity of the eluent (methanol/water = 70/30, v/v) was measured prior to its elution through the hydrophobic resin column. The measurement showed a specific gravity of 0.853. The discharged eluent from the column outlet was first evaporated under vacuum pressure. The evaporated eluent was collected and condensed into a liquid eluent again, followed by the HPLC analysis in order to check the presence of any trace of impurity. Even if the specific gravity of the liquid eluent is varied from 0.853 as a result of the evaporation and condensation, the eluent can still be reused after it specific gravity is adjusted by the addition of methanol or water. The reuse of the eluent resulted in the paclitaxel yield of 86% with a purity of 95% which were closely similar to those of before the eluent reuse. These results indicate that the strategy of reusing the eluent on the basis of the specific gravity analysis was successfully implemented in this study.

The combining abilities in the 5 newly evolved thermo tolerant breeds viz., SR6, SR7, SR8 SR9 and SR10 of silkworm Bombyx mori L. and their 15 hybrids were made in a line${\times}$tester crossing programme. Data were analysed for seven quantitative traits i.e., pupation rate, cocoon yield, cocoon weight, cocoon shell weight, cocoon shell ratio, filament length and raw silk percentage under optimum room temperature $(25{\pm}{1^{\circ}C})$ conditions (In case of high temperature $(36{\pm}{1^{\circ}C})$ stress conditions five economic traits except filament length and raw silk percentage) with 3 widely adapted testers i.e., KA, CSR2 and CC1 as lines (females) and testers (males) respectively. The performance at high temperature and low humidity conditions aye only taken into consideration for selecting the best lines/hybrids. Among the lines SR6 exhibited positive General combining ability (GCA) effects for pupation rate, cocoon yield, cocoon weight and cocoon shell ratio traits, followed by SR7 for pupation rate, cocoon yield and cocoon shell weight and cocoon shell ratio. Among testers, KA exhibited positive GCA effects for two quantitative traits cocoon yield, cocoon weight and CSR2 for cocoon shell weight and cocoon shell ratio under adverse temperature conditions. The hybrid SR6${\times}$CC1 and SR7${\times}$CSR2 exhibited significant positive Specific combining ability (SCA) effects for majority of the traits in high temperature stress conditions of rearing. The better parent value of heterosis(Heterobeltiosis) was exhibited by the hybrid SR6${\times}$CC1 for pupation rate, cocoon yield, cocoon weight and cocoon shell weight and SR7${\times}$CSR2 for all the trails evaluated under high temperature conditions. Based on the results, the lines SR6 and SR7 was judged as best combiners and the hybrids SR6${\times}$CC1 and SR7${\times}$CSR2 can be selected for commercial exploitation in tropical climate.
In a line X tester crossing programme (24 lines 2 testers) the general combining ability (GCA) and specific combining ability (SCA) effects were analyzed for five economic characters in the bivoltine silkworm, Bombyx mori L. The results showed desired GCA effects in 934D1 (9500), 934B (9789) and 934A1 (9855) for cocoon yield per 10,000 larvae brushed by number. Likewise, the lines found to be superior based on GCA effects for other characters were as follows; 931D (14.040 Kgs), 935E (17.023 Kga.), 934D1 (15.643 Kgs.) and 934B (15.687 Kgs.) for cocoon yield by weight: 931D (1.717 g) and 930E (1.796 g) for single cocoon weight; 932B (0.330 g) for single shell weight: 931D (1.717 g) and 930e (1.796 g) for single cocoon weight; 932B (0.330 g) for single shell weight; 932B (18.7%), 933A (18.86%) and 935A (19.89%) for shell ratio. SCA effects showed the superiority of 932D$\times$KA (9822 cocoon yield per 10,000 larvae brushed by number); 932A$\times$NB4D2 (16.933 Kgs. cocoon yield per 10,000 larvae brushed by weight); 931C$\times$KA (1.911 g single cocoon weight); 934$\times$NB4D2 (0.371 g single shell weight and 21.0% shell ratio). The analysis indicated non-additive gene action for all the five characters.
The research is conducted to study the effect of the soil physical properties in the direct sowing culture on the water requirement, growth, and yield of rice with Early-Tongil at the experimental paddy field of the Sangju agri. and seri. junior college in Keyngbuk province from 6th May to 15th September in 1977. The experimental plots are designed with the four plots which are non-irrigated standard (plowing to 15cm), non-irrigated deep lowed (plowing to 25cm), irrigated standard (plowing to 15cm), and irrigated deep plowing plot (plowing to 25cm) and also each plot is repreated four times by the split plot design. The results obtained are summarized as follows: 1) The soil sample was ML to 10cm depth from ground surface and those from 10cm to 20cm depth and from 20cm to 30cm were CL. Each specific gravity was 2. 6, 2. 6 and 2. 7. 2) The weather during culturing period was the sane as the normal year of mean temperature. The precipitation was little and the distribution of it was disordered comparing to normal year but the heavy sunshine gave good effect on ripening. 3) Percolation loss was increased more at the non-irrigated plot than at the irrigated plot, and that of deep-plowed plot was increased more. 4) Grain yield per 10a. of non-irrigated deep plowed plot was 898kg, it was greated than others but there wa no significance. 5) A significant difference in the number of spikelets per panicle was found between nonirrigated plot and irrigated plot, and the number of spiklelets per panicle at the nonirrigated plot was more than that of the irrigated plot. But there was no significance in the other yield components-number of panicle, fertility abd ripening ratio-at the irrigated plot, ut weight of 100 grains was higher at non-irrigated plot. 6) Yield and growth at the deep plowed plot were higher than those of standard plowed plot.
